Who was Black Veil Brides influenced by?

Black Veil Brides mix glam rock and metal. They’re one of rock’s flashiest bands. The members of B.V.B. have often cited Misfits, Mötley Crüe, and David Bowie as their biggest inspirations. This collection features tracks from the gothic punks, raucous metalheads, and outlandish rockers who shaped the sound of Black Veil Brides.

How did Black Veil Brides meet?

One night at a party in Los Angeles, Black Veil Brides started to form. Andy Biersack was wrestling pool toys at the time. The five guys first met in Cincinnati when Biersack was a teenager. They kept in touch through friends and meetings until they finally formed the band.

Learn about their lives before BVB, their meetings, and how drummer C.C. was hard to get.

Is Black Veil Brides emo?

Wikipedia says Black Veil Brides is an emo rock band. No more stereotypes. I hate the term “emo” for anything. People often call my rock bands “emo.” This pisses me off. I call my rock music “scene.” My last post explains why I dislike stereotypes. Stereotypes make people narrow-minded. Sorry for the rant. Anyway, back to my point. Alternative rock has a wide range of sounds. I had no idea what to expect from Black Veil Brides. I watched some of their music videos on YouTube. I don’t usually look up music videos. This shows how much I wanted to know about Black Veil Brides. “Heart of Fire” and “In the End” were my first Black Veil Brides songs. I wasn’t expecting such a hard rock sound. Black Veil Brides’ rock sound is very different from Andy Black’s The Shadow Side album. Black Veil Brides is one of the hardest rock bands I listen to. Only my symphonic metal and nu-metal bands come close to this heavy hard rock sound. I like variety in rock subgenres. It took me a few days to get used to Black Veil Brides’ music. The drums, bass, and two electric guitars made a beautiful, complex sound with Andy’s deep voice. This is the perfect combination. My ears loved it. I was hooked.

Why is it called Black Veil Brides?

Purdy explained the meaning of Black Veil Brides. Black Veil Brides is a Roman Catholic term for a woman who marries into the church and gives up worldly pleasures to devote her life to God. She is then called a Black Veil Bride. It’s like a rock band where you have to give up a lot to do what you love. It has both good and bad. The happiest time in your life is getting married. The opposite of a wedding is a funeral. It all fits well for a dark and heavy rock band. The writing process for a tour and a record began immediately. In December 2009, the band went on their first US tour. Their first album, We Stitch These Wounds, came out in July 2010. It sold over 10,000 copies in its first week. It ranked at No. 36 on the Billboard Top 200 chart and No. 1 on the Billboard Independent chart. Sandra Alvarenga was replaced by Christian CC Coma shortly after the album came out. In late 2010, Black Veil Brides went on tour with The Birthday Massacre, Dommin, and Aural Vampire.

Is Andy Biersack religious?

Religious views. Biersack is not religious, but he is Catholic because he went to a Catholic school, his parents are Catholic, and his music for Black Veil Brides references the Bible. In an interview with Loudwire, he said, “I’m not religious, but I grew up in a religious family.” I went to my grandfather’s funeral. Everyone said he went to Heaven. I always fight with that because I would love to believe that my grandfather is in Heaven playing video games. But I can’t. Biersack has had many injuries while performing with Black Veil Brides. His worst was a fall from a 15-foot pillar in Hollywood on June 18, 2011. He fell and hit his chest on the edge of the stage, breaking three ribs and displacing one. The band was three songs into their set, but he got back up and finished it. Black Veil Brides had to miss the first week of the Vans Warped Tour in 2011 because of this injury. On October 26, 2011, Biersack broke his nose while on another tour in the UK. This resulted in more missed tour dates. Two days later, he performed with Black Veil Brides in London.

In an interview with Revolver Magazine, Biersack said:

What is the Black Veil Brides controversy?

People envy those who brag about a party lifestyle. They envy people who are doing what they love for a living. They’re envious when they think one of the members has a record-producer father. Some well-known musicians have made negative comments about the band, including Ivan Moody of Five Finger Death Punch and Phil LaBonte of All That Remains. They say Black Veil Brides are not really metal. Black Veil Brides lyrics deal with heavy metal topics. They appeal to those who feel like outsiders. They like weirdos and tell fans to believe in themselves. I realized my problem with Black Veil Brides has nothing to do with whether they’re metal. They’re clearly metal. The problem is that the band is seen as emo by some old-school metal fans. Their name means a woman who marries into the church gives up all her pleasures to devote herself to God. It’s both good and bad. The combination of dark, heavy music (nowadays deemed as emo) with a rebellious attitude and a younger audience rubs older metalheads the wrong way. The band has changed a lot. Each new record is different. The band’s appearance has also changed. It’s hard to take a young band seriously when they demand respect for their consistent music.

  • Andy is SO open with the fact he doest like being around people and finds most stuff, especially involving the internet AND people uninteresting to him, so idk why all these interviewers haven’t fully caught on yet. He’s an anxious ball of sarcasm and ADHD and all the shit that comes along with having ADHD, please ya’ll.

  • Im FINALLY going to a Black Veil Brides Concert May 18th in NASHVILLE im so excited! I discovered Black Veil way back on My Space as an Adult! Ive been a fan for many years. My son Luke is a massive fan. Hes 23 and im 49. And i promise you in Nashville you wont be able to tell whose older because i plan on screaming every word of every song til i cant talk anymore 😂

  • I met Andy about two years ago or so, at Steel City Con, in Pittsburgh PA. He was a genuine and a humble guy. Throughout the whole day, I was freaking out in my head, because I was meeting somebody that means a lot to me(thanks to my fiancé surprising me with tickets). Or I should say, has influenced me to continue to be me and do better. Has helped better my life. I was about 16 years old, when I had a slight connection with Sumerian records. Black Veil Brides inspired me, and I did a lot of covers. To the point of being contacted by them, and I turned them down because it was just me and no band. Plus being in high school, and I felt as if I never would’ve made it anyways. By the time I met him, I pretty much froze up and basically got to shake his hand before getting a photo with him. There was so much I wanted to say and express, but I felt bad for the man, because he’s been working like a dog. I overheard him saying “Fuck, I need some coffee”. And from there, I didn’t want to bother him. I’m glad I didn’t, but there is still a part of me that wished I would’ve been able to speak more to him. Because I know I’m not the only fan and won’t be the last to tell him how much he and his band means to me. But somehow I hoped that what I had to say, would have him remember me. I know it sounds ridiculous and slightly “into myself”, but what I said I have good intentions. perusal this interview, definitely made me wish I had said something. If you read this Andy or Nik, I just wanted to say thank you for this interview!

  • Never was too big with them, but i listened to many songs throughout the years. But man what a great surprise this interview was! He is great! Loved his humour as well, couldnt stop laughing at many times. But yeah, awesome shit Nik. I will be waiting for the next time Andy comes again, he seems to be such a cool dude to hang out.

  • Pretty sure Andy is a vampire – he has not visibly aged a day. BVB’s music has gotten me through so many rough times for more than a decade, and it is such a nice thing to see that their lead singer seems so genuine and down to earth, like someone that can really represent the music he creates, and I appreciate that so much. I knew he had been through some rough patches over the years (what metal musician/singer hasn’t though – it’s almost a rite of passage) but he really sounds like he’s living his best life right now and living for his art and his music and his family, which is hugely inspirational. He really is just an introverted, casually sarcastic dude who loves music and loves sharing it. I really enjoyed this interview – Nik is a fantastic interviewer and had some awesome questions, Andy is genuinely a delight, and this has got me so, so excited for this upcoming tour! See you in Dallas!!! As a sidenote: the fact that Andy’s first musical obsession was a Sondheim musical is incredibly endearing and I love it

  • i loved this entire thing, but especially andy’s mention of fanfic. i’m not personally in the bvb fandom, but i’m involved in bandom, and i’m friends with a lot of fanfic authors. a lot of times people will hate on fanfic (especially rpf) and while i do get where they’re coming from, there’s a lot of beautiful works in fanfic and i will always defend it. i love andy’s attitude with “it’s not written for me” because that’s EXACTLY how fanfic works. it’s written by fans for fans who engage in fanfic and rpf especially is never written for the people in it to read (unless it’s for awsten + travis’ slumber party lol) this made me respect andy even more then i already did which is kinda crazy. (also bleeders was such a good song and i loved the article ❤️❤️❤️)

  • I was at the soundwave show in Brisbane back in 2012 and seeing the band play was something else. They definitely stood out but they held their own and put on a good show! I enjoyed it haha Also Nik not understanding the southern hemispheres weather is hilarious. Imagine when he realises that New Zealand isn’t a part of Australia haha

  • When I was in middle school (15-16 years ago) my first impression of BVB was negative because the people I associated with hated them. It was as if it was a trend to hate them; I didn’t like them and I had never listened to their music. Fortunately, my best friend told me that she liked them, so I gave them a listen and instantly fell in love. I know most of the haters also secretly love them too.

  • Me encantó!

  • Black Veil Brides must have gotten inspired by Motionless in White and Ice Nine Kills during the Trinity of Terror Tour because Bleeders is by far thee most heavy BVB song I’ve ever heard and I’ve been a fan since the Original Knives and Pens and I used to think The Legacy was the heaviest they wrote until I heard this one and granted I still love all the original stuff but god damn Bleeders is a whole new level of heavy and I love it!!!

  • You gotta bring Felipe Hervoso from AXTY great band from brazil, opened the bvb show this year, they are insane. For some reason i cant believe andy’s head is like that, i wish we could see the songs he does randomly and i didnt know he had cats, cats are always something i want to see all the time. Saw them for the first time this year, spent money i shouldnt but i think it was worth it, im apathic lately so its difficult to understand how i feel, couldnt see much of the show, talked to the guitar guy that was very nice and i got a pick from him,i love to hear the musicians i like talking, i could never understand why they were so hated, when i said i liked the band and people would make fun of me, just like they did when i told them i liked justin bieber and one direction, its crazy that i felt embarrassed for liking something, and its the band that introduced me to the genre and helped me make what i am today, its annoying how metal is still a “man” thing

  • If you haven’t seen a gator in Florida pacifically Orlando cuz I’ve been to Orlando a lot in my life if you have not seen a gator yet however you want to say it but honestly and truthfully I used to see alligators all the time in Orlando but I also know that a lot of people are scared of gators so they probably just started rounding them up and try to do whatever science tech they were doing to prevent them from growing in that specific area

  • Andy do you ever age? Flawless, Gorgeous skin! Always love your intellect (Love me a Sapiosexual) Been into BVB since day 1. Time for a show,it’s been a while! I live 3 hours from Tampa & ❤ The Ocean, Sharks! So in closing, Luv *BVB* You Andy & in **AMERICAN SATAN**, **PARADISE CITY** Also a pheunomanel Actor!!! Great, Great interview Nik! HAPPY WEDNESDAY GUYS! 🖤💜🖤🌞🌴🏴‍☠️💜🖤💜 Ps I never laughed so hard perusal an interview!

  • Who’s here in 2020? I’m still jamming to this, this song helps me more then anyone will ever know.. May 31st 2020…. 9:55 A.M. this song is my everything I was in the hospital for months just got out a little bit ago.. In that hospital this song is the only thing keeping me going I thought I lost it all cause I thought I would have no one when leaving the hospital. But I have so many people that I don’t even know and family and friends I dont even remember it’s sad but I’m also glad I’m okay and I am getting better. ………..Y’all keep pushing you got this I love you we love you stay strong 💗I’m always here if you need to talk 💗

  • I remember when I first heard this song, I was in the car on a road trip with my headphones in. It perfectly fit the scenery and when his voice came on I was like “…damn.” My family was concerned as to why I had this really far away look on my face like my soul had just left my body lol I told them “because Andy took it to heaven.”

  • I used to be so into Black Veil Brides back when I was so depressed and life was just so terrible and its been a few years now but I remember listening to this song when I was so sad and wondering if life could get any better. I’m now at the happiest I’ve ever been and its really crazy the feelings I get listening to this again. My taste in music is completely changed but this song stay with me and its all just a little surreal.

  • I remeber how i used to listen to this song alot back when i was really really depressed and i had many difficult things going on im my life. Its so cool to listen to this now again, when my life is great and im not depressed at all anymore. So yeah if anyone reads this comment who has depression, please never give up, i promise you things will get better.

  • all I can imagine is, Andy being Lucifer, or the Angel of Death. and something dethroning him, making him realize he doesn’t know who he is whatsoever. that he needs he new purpose, and is calling out to God, to anyone to show him his purpose. he realizes that even as the most feared in all the world, even he hurts. even Lucifer/death needs help.

  • I haven’t listened to Black Veil Brides in a long time. My boyfriend of 15 months decided he just didn’t want me anymore, and he was the one thing holding me together. He helped with my depression and he was the one person that knew how to calm me down when I had anxiety attacks. He’d literally wake up in the middle of the night and call me just to make sure that I was okay. It’s been four months, and I’m just a shell of the happy girl I used to be. I relapsed into cutting after a year and a half clean, and I started drinking to numb the pain. I’m so fucking worthless, and I just want to get out of this cruel world. This band has always been so soothing. Thanks for the good fight guys, I’ve truly lost it all.

  • This song for me represents when I lost all the friends that I constantly went to. Ive been suicidal and I used to selfharm but bands like BVB, MCR, and TØP have helped me. I constantly wondered who could save me, then I found bands. Musoc has saved me, not people. This song is one of the reasons I will do whatever I have to do in order to listen to yhem. My mom says that most of the bands that I love are inappropriate (MCR because she doesn’t like the language) but I will do my best to keep BVB a secret so that I can still listen to them. Because I relate to them so much ❤️

  • To me, this song has a deeper meaning. I lost my grandma recently, and she meant so much to me. She taught me how to get back up after a fall and how to embrace the world we live in. Ive been in a really bad place since she died, and I owe so much to this amazing song. To me, this song has a meaning that once, I was powerful and happy, strong enough to endure pain from other people, but then I lost it all (my grandma was everything to me) and I became listless and depressed with my back against the wall to support me because i couldnt support myself. But everyone has their own struggles, and I am not alone. I just need to get back up.

  • Man, back in 2015 was when i was really depressed and felt like nobody can save me. Went through so much with my family. Started listening to music. BVB and many bands. Bvb was my number one. Let me tell you, they have helped me through my demons. Its 2020 now, i have two kids and a loving boyfriend. No matter whatever someone is going through, if its the worst time of you life, i PROMISE it WILL get better. I struggled so hard. Now i know the true meaning of life… all you gotta do is BELIEVE in yourself…

  • Thank you for this song. Because now that I am alone and broken, it is only your voice in form of this song beside me. And one day, when I’ve risen up again, when I’ve overcome this period of time, I will know that I am strong enough to overcome every obstacle. But it will not be today. Today, I thank you for this song.

  • Song reminds me of my fur baby my buddy tech. A golden retriever who was pure gold and my savior. I suffer from work related ptsd and loosing him sent me into a death spiral. I was forced to retire from a job I loved & was good at. 👨🏻‍🚒🇺🇸🔥 now I got another soul Ace who is reinventing me as well as horses who are simply amazing ! Never in my life did I expect being so broken ! Don’t quit ! Get help ! It’s a hard fight but your always worth it !!no more suicides 🙏🏼

  • This song makes me like just feel so happy I don’t if it’s the lyrics or his voice but God dammit I love black veil brides! Most of my friends are scared of them and say they are stupid but truth be told they are the ones rich and famous and not my stupid ass friends! I love BVB forever and always ❤️❤️

  • i found black veil brides in 5th grade and listened to them for a few years. i had really bad depression and was completely lost in 6th grade. i listened to this song a lot during that time- im not sure if it helped any but it definitely helped me express how i felt through music. 3-4 years later, i started listening to them again and i remember why i did so. they have amazing music and this song will always hold a special place in my heart 🙂

  • For those of you like me who have tried, think about it or have lost someone from committing suicide… Know you are loved and cared for. There may be people who put you down, and people who don’t care about you, but there are people like me who will always be there for you. The best thing you can do is look up to the sky, let out a good cry, and scream at the world for trying to put you down. Even with all this pain nothing can take away what makes you so special! Look to the sky and know those you’ve lost and those who care about you is perusal and protecting you. Some people may not say it enough and some people say it too much, but I want you to know I love you all

  • To anyone reading this I just wanted to say you are NEVER nothing. You are you and no one can change that no matter how hard they try. Don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t do something because they don’t know your story. They’ve never lived your life and they never will be able to. Take it from my sister. She got bad grades in elementary and middle school because her grandma told her she was stupid. But in high school she tried and she got straight A’s and is now a biologist. Please no matter what you’re going through try your best because your best is the best you can do anyway. Thanks for reading! 🙂

  • For those who are suffering depression, I would like to say that hope is always there for us. Im suffering depression because the people I related to have disappeared and my relationship with my father has changed significantly and it feels like he has passed away and became another person. Im not his son anymore but i have grown to a full man and my life is in my own hands

  • Even with all of the disasters that happen whether it be war, natural disasters, or even depression! We all can make a day or year sound just as good, by describing all of the good things that happen on that day or year! A day is only as bad as you say it was. Take your day for example, think of the things that were bad that day (Pretty sad right?). Now think of even THE SMALLEST good things that happened! (You either made it sound like it had hope or it was great). -Now if you want to be a smart ass and say, “Oh, well nothing good happened today, so you’re wrong” Then no, you just proved my point. I said a day is only as bad as you make it sound. Thank you for your time people.

  • A lot of people in this comment section like to talk about their stories with depression and bullying. Bullys make it their job to make you feel like shit, either because they feel like shit and want to take it out on someone else. Just remember what anyone says about you isn’t true unless you believe it, you are the thing that drives what you thinl about yourself. if you think you’re ugly than I guess you’re ugly, but if you think you’re not ugly than you’re not ugly

  • me: listens to this song… gets goosebumps internet: “Goosebumps are a fight or flight response. When you have intense emotions towards something, adrenaline is released and races through your body. … However, strong emotional reactions to other things, such as a passionate scene in a film or listening to your favorite song, can also cause us to have this reaction.” me: “who doubts i am a fan of this band now? nobody did” XD

  • I feel like the creator of this article entirely missed the point Andy was trying to make. Creator – I know you mean well with the inspirational quotes and messages, but that is the complete opposite of the point of this song. Andy said this song was for those who are feeling depressed and all the ‘you’ll be okay’s etc are just unnecessary. Sometimes you just want to be left alone to deal with your thoughts.

  • This summer I lost every friend I had. It all started with a simple fight between me and my ” best friend”. Lots of things happened. Later, I realised that everyone I used to hang out with would avoid me. A few weeks ago I saw them. They were so happy. Did they even care about how I felt??? Things settled down and I finally trusted a parson. And it ended up she told my old best friend something personal. I just shattered…. I have to build everything from the start now. And I know it’s going to be hard but I hope I’m going to make it. For everyone reading this, stay strong. This world needs to be a better place. I know you are sensitive deep inside. I know you’ve been made fun of. I know you believe nothing matters. But if we want to make this world a better place, we have to do it together. Edit: Well…. It’s been a year… I still don’t really talk to that old friend, but it’s better now My father left us, thankfully, he was no good I loved and lost Got abused Gained and lost friends Seeked for help And even tho it wasn’t easy I’m actually better So I guess this can be a positive message that hey Things do get better

  • Saw a post about how someone felt if they are open and honest about their feelings and give people they love all their love and it truly as he said, gets you no where. I gave my entire soul to a woman that I came into her life and made her smile, made her laugh, and genuinely feel loved like none other. However because of mere lifes constant battle and the reality of our financial stability, she broke up with me. I miss and think of her every day. I still love her and cant stand that we are distant. How can someone tell you they love you, that they’ll never leave you, that they’re always going to be with you and work things out with you or compromise for you. Then one day pretend it was never said because of how they felt about how our futures didn’t align in the same direction. It’s absolutely cruel and hurts every day. 😭

  • This song is helping me through life and my heart breaks that are still going on in my life. I have alot of empty whiskey bottles by my bed …. and I think to myself is life even worth living…… it’s so hard for me to forget I just hope I find love soon because I’m on the edge of the cliff and I’m waiting for someone or something to tell me it’s going to be okay😔
