Interview: Dan Slessor: What were you trying to do? I was trying to fly, and I’m not perfected that yet. I wish I had a good reason for doing what I did, but I was just climbing up and jumping back onstage, which usually ends badly. I was wearing cowboy boots on a marble floor, which I’d never jumped from before. I started to slip while I was up there. I thought I could push with my arms and land on the adjacent pillar. Everything worked, except my legs fell and slammed my ribs into the pillar.

How long has Andy Biersack been sober?
Black Veil Brides’ Andy Biersack talks about getting sober more than six years ago. In an interview with Robb Flynn, Andy Biersack talked about his decision to get sober more than six years ago. He said (as reported by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): I was young. I just wanted to be in a rock band and go on tour. I didn’t socialize much. I played sports, painted my face, and sang into a mirror. Then I went to hockey practice. I painted my face and sang into a mirror again. I dreamed of drawing and making costumes. I was a loner kid because I didn’t have much time for friends. I never made friends. I didn’t know how to act around people. Then I’m touring regionally in a car. Things are happening, and we go play to five people. Five more people than I thought were there. They all say, “Hey, you’re the shit.” I’m like, “That’s awesome.” I’m the best. You’re 22; you know everything. So I was young and starting a music career, so I based my personality on the people around me. The bands were all older than me, and everywhere we went on tour, the people there were older than me. I just saw them as they knew what they were doing. You gotta party, be crazy, and cultivate your personality. By the time I’m 21 or 22, I’ve made a suit of armor out of things I’ve read about and an aesthetic choice I’ve made. By my mid-20s, I was over it. He continued: I spent a lot of time trying to be this character I created. People have been mean to us since we started. It made me mad. I wanted to defend myself and my band. I felt a responsibility to our audience to stand up for them and fight against people who talked shit about the band. I still do, but at that age I’d get drunk and play three songs, then fight people. It wasn’t healthy. Then I felt down, so I went to a hotel room and drank alone. I tried to write songs, but I just kept spinning out. I didn’t have an addiction, I just needed it. I do this because I’m socially awkward and don’t know who I am. It gives me a personality and makes me feel better about being outgoing. Then it became, “I have to do that.” Then we made records. The producer said I sounded better when I was drinking. I’m 20 and not allowed to drink. An A-list producer on my first major label record told me to get drunk before we track vocals. So I did it. It just became a self-fulfilling thing. My wife Juliet Simms, also a musician, had dealt with similar things. She started young and had a similar life, and we both decided to stop. Now it’s been the same amount of time for both of us, and we’re happier and healthier than ever. Black Veil Brides’ latest album, The Phantom Tomorrow, was released in October. The third Black Veil Brides album is their most ambitious yet. It has 12 tracks, including their first US Top 10 Active Rock single, Scarlet Cross.

I would loveee to see all of BVB in a movie or a show i know they did the legion of the black but something new yessss! Love you guys sooo much ❤
Thank you for this interview, it’s wonderful. As a fan, I loved these questions and I’m happy that somebody asked these so I could hear the answers😆 And I loved the sense of humor. Also, I appreciate that the interviewer referred to himself and his struggles, too (I’m not sure how to say what I mean in English, sorry). And I wish you sir all the best. Being willing to acknowledge a problem and thinking about solving it takes strength and some courage, too. And taking an action takes even more strength and costs even more effort. It’s a great achievement. I’m sure you’ll be able to deal with the struggle after giving up the drinking. Good luck, sir! 💜
