He knows he will not end up alone and will finally experience love. He is a walking bomb and an omniscient god, but he still has love.

Why did Dr. Manhattan leave Janey?

Manhattan researches a lot. He’s the one who made electric cars popular, and Adrian Veidt says he’s made a lot of other scientific and technological advances. The technology in the Watchmen universe is much more advanced. At the Crimebusters meeting, Manhattan falls for Laurie, the second Silk Spectre. He breaks up with Janey and starts dating Laurie.

Watchmen events. At the start of Watchmen, Manhattan works at the Rockefeller Military Research Center and lives with Laurie. Rorschach tells them about the death of Edward Blake, aka the Comedian, and says that all former costumed adventurers are being killed by a mask killer. Manhattan works for the government, so he’s not affected by the law against costumed heroes. Manhattan sends Rorschach away and encourages Laurie to go out with Dan Dreiberg. A short time later, Manhattan goes to Blake’s funeral with Veidt and Dreiberg. He thinks about his time with Blake during the Vietnam War and senses the presence of Moloch.

At a talk show, a reporter accuses Manhattan of causing cancer in his former associates, including Janey. Manhattan goes to Mars to be alone. The Soviets invade Afghanistan while Manhattan is away, causing an international crisis. Manhattan brings Laurie to Mars to talk about helping humanity. Laurie wins the argument when she learns that her father is Blake, who sexually assaulted her mother. Manhattan is amazed by the unlikely events that led to Laurie’s birth. He sees it as a stunning thermodynamic miracle. Manhattan realizes that the miracle can apply to any living thing on Earth. He decides to return to protect humanity.
