I don’t believe it’s anyone from the cast. One of the main reasons why these people go on these shows is to gain publicity and market their own brands. That’s why they don’t really care about the salaries, because there are other intangible benefits they will reap from being on such big platform like Netflix. Therefore, they wouldn’t fumble the Netflix bag by disclosing their salaries. And just like what one of the sources said, this will hurt their businesses.
A couple years ago, I was being considered to host a design show in the UK. I’m a regular person whose day job is in tech in the US (I have my own interior design business as well). While they were considering me, I was really worried about the thought of giving up my GOODT paying tech job for half a year, to go film a show overseas. Precisely because I already knew that people on TV are paid peanuts, especially the first few seasons of a show. (I was partially relieved when they went another way. It would have been cool to have my own show though lol.)
NY now requires employers to post a pay range. Also, the company can’t keep you from discussing your salary in the US. That’s an employee protected right from the Dept of Labor. Even if it’s in your handbook it’s just there to scare you. The govt posts the pay of all of their employees. You know exactly what you need to do to earn a raise and since everyone’s pay is posted that’s one less thing for employees to be resentful about. It’s high time private employers be required to openly post their salary ranges. The only reason for not doing so is because they have something to hide. They’re either paying someone too little or too much and they don’t want the employees to have any bargaining power.
I’m not an attorney but Under the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA or the Act), employees have the right to communicate with other employees at their workplace about their wages. Maybe because this is different country or because the cast agrees to it, they can keep them from revealing that info but it seems shady to me.
The thing with all the housewives shows is that it’s a platform to build a brand, build your business, because you’re not going to make real money unless the show is in its 4th or 5th season and beyond. The show itself has to establish traction. And whether some of these people have money in real life or not. For most reality stars is about being known, being seen, and getting famous and making money from endorsements and new businesses.
I’m really looking forward for Season 2. I’m team Ebrahim, Danya and Farhana. For the leak, if it’s someone on the cast, I would say Farhana because she was constantly mocked by some of these “wealthy” people last season due to her being an influencer and her sponsorship events so she’s the person who’s the least impacted by this leak. She doesn’t pretend to be this millionaire/billionaire out of touch who wouldn’t take 20k for a season. Even tho I like Ebrahim, I don’t believe in this wedding and wouldn’t be surprised that it’s all for show.
These reality shows give exposure to the cast, which may explain why they sign on to film. As time goes on they have leverage to demand higher compensation. Networks never pay out the gate several thousands of dollars per episode. That’s TV, you don’t start off being paid. What are they paying for? Nobody knows you.
This is really not interesting because it’s just a first season pilot show and that’s too be expected. Bigger salaries will come in the future with the show’s continued popularity increasing. Side Note: I do believe that Ibrahim is not living in his truth….but that’s jus an opinion….and we all have one.
Is it me but that is not a lot of money!!!! This coming from someone who lives in the San Francisco Bay Area where the cost of living is very high. The low-ball comment is so very true!!!! These folk sold themselves really low because I am sure it takes hours to film. The season is messy with back-stabbing and back-talking.
All of the cast members are in fact very very wealthy. This is not the USA where you can track someone’s net worth. The cast members live in huge homes. If there’s are owned or rented doesn’t matter. There’s no credit in Dubai and things have to be paid for in cash. Loujains birkin collection is a million dollars alone.
