Did Mail Order Brides Go To Nevada?

Mail-order brides were popular in the Old West in the United States, as they were arranged via correspondence between American men and women in the Great Plains. The term “mail-order bride” was used by newspaper reporters between the 1900s and 1920s to describe such women. In the 1800s, females were in scarce supply on the frontier, and men begged decent women to become their brides through newspaper classifieds. Mail-order requests for brides were the natural result of the fact that out West, men could prospect for gold but rarely for respectable females.

The mail-order bride business was born in the twentieth century, with the goal of emigrating respectable females to California. The United States is a federal republic consisting of 50 states and a federal district, and its capital, Washington, D.C., is located in central North America. Thailand, officially the Kingdom of Thailand, is located in Southeast Asia and is bordered by Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, and Malaysia.

The fall of the Berlin wall led to the rise of the modern Mail Order Bride movement. After the First World War, the passage of strict regulations made it easier for international marriage brokers to reach more people and facilitate sales. Nevada, located in the western regions of the United States, ranks on 35th in the most populous state from all 50 in the United States.

Redditors who found their wives through a mail-order bride service often had no different agenda than other mate-seeking women. Women willing to become mail-order brides do not appear to have a different agenda than other mate-seeking women; they simply have a different agenda than other mate-seeking women.

Think about how to approach foreign dating. You can chat with a woman online instead of meeting her in person. Online sites like Tinder, Match.com, and eHarmony help you narrow down your options.

You can also travel to a country where you are vulnerable to find a foreign bride. Some places still have dating trips, which can be a good way to meet a woman you like. If you don’t want to marry, you can learn a lot by living in a new place. If you want to find an overseas bride, you might want to know how long it will take. It takes two months to find someone on a dating website. If you want to marry a woman from another country, you’ll have to travel there a lot. You need a visa to go to another country. Most mail-order marriages happened between the 1880s and the 1910s, but some happened as late as the 1920s. The timing of picture brides from specific countries often matches US immigration law or domestic events. Some women came to the United States as picture brides after the Armenian Genocide. It ended in 1923, and newspaper articles from 1921 and 1922 show boats with Armenian women arriving in New York as picture brides.

Why did men in the West want wives?

Why did men in the West want wives?

Men in the West had many reasons to marry. Some men wanted a spouse because they were lonely, some needed money, and some hoped for someone who shared their cultural background. While there were not as many white women in the American West, there were still women there. Some pioneers formed relationships with indigenous women. Statehood advocates worried that interracial marriages would be seen as uncivilized and could harm the chance of becoming a state. Many Americans thought that women would help civilize the West by replacing alcohol, gambling, and prostitution with schools and churches. Immigrant men faced the same problems as American men, but their immigrant status also made them want to marry mail-order brides. Japanese men who immigrated to the US but returned to Japan for more than 30 days could be called for service there. Marrying a picture bride meant less risk and less travel.

Women The West promised men opportunity, fortune, adventure, and a new beginning. It also promised women these things. Many women got married to go West and find a better life.

Did men used to beat their wives in the 50s?

The National Coalition Against Domestic Violence says that one in three women and one in four men have been abused by a partner. This shows that domestic violence is very serious and should not be joked about. Domestic violence has always been an issue, but it was more socially acceptable in the past than it is now. In 1964, Time Magazine said some men saw wife beating as “temporary therapy.”

She takes her dying friend’s place as a mail-order bride. Can she pull off this last con? Diana McQueen, a con-woman, has had enough. She leaves town and her boss, Tom Rourke, behind. She takes the place of her dying friend, who was to become a mail-order bride. Can she pull off this last con? I liked this movie. It’s about a woman who wants to leave her ex and answers a letter from her recently deceased friend, who was to become a mail-order bride. I felt sorry for the man when he met the woman. She didn’t tell him she wasn’t the one he’d been writing to. I liked the characters, plot, scenery, horses, and ending. It was suspenseful and heartwarming. As the characters were revealed, I was more interested in what would happen next, especially when her past caught up with her. It wasn’t your typical Western movie, which made it more intriguing. I loved that you could guess some of the actions, but not all of them. It’s a great, entertaining movie.

In 2008, the Victorian Government introduced new laws to stop family violence. The Family Violence Protection Act 2008 was adopted. It includes family, past relationships, and family-like relationships. The Act states that family violence is any behavior that controls or dominates a family member and causes them to feel fear for their own or other family members’ safety or well-being. It can include physical, sexual, emotional, or economic abuse and any behavior that harms a child. The Act also recognizes that violence occurs in gay and lesbian relationships at similar levels to heterosexual relationships. Some forms of abuse are unique for people who identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, or intersex. • He got out after serving 5 years for murdering his wife and now he’s been caught selling fake “cancer curing” drugs for dogs to people and now he’s facing a possible 32 year sentence from everything I could find. 32 years for selling fake pet drugs. 8 years (served only 5) for murder. Makes total sense.

  • Can we all give some love to “TIM” for his dedication to this website. His intros are a work of art. It has been so satisfying watch is sub count go from a few thousand to where it is today. He deserves it all! UPDATE: YALL “TIM” is short for THIS IS MONSTERS. Jiles would get it so that’s all that matters to me ♥️

  • I had a work colleague that had a fetish for young girls from the Philippines. He paid her family monthly support. When it didn’t work out,he would send her back, and search for another. He didn’t like the fact that they loved his bank account and blew through his money. He was around his late 60’s early 70’s.Some of his wives were in their early 20’s.I saw him a couple months ago, pushing a walker, all hunched over, now close to 90 yrs old,all alone.I didn’t approach him to say hi,for fear that he may have dementia now,and wouldn’t remember me from work. The moral of the story is, don’t think a 40 yr age gap will work out..Pathetic..Old,broke,alone.

  • This is the result of people replacing love for money and thinking that should be enough. But something that stood out to me; If he slammed her head on the ground and that killed her ‐ where did all the cuts and bruises come from? Why wasn’t it addressed? I guess as long as there was a conviction, no one cared, right?

  • Truly one of the best true crime websites on YouTube. You are always respectful to the victims and their families, you don’t make it all about admiring the killer, you cover lesser-known cases that could use more attention, and you don’t encourage people to try to be amateur detectives. Your stellar work reveals the integrity and heart of the person behind it. Please keep it up! ❤️👏

  • Thank you for all you do! I’m obsessed with your website! ❤ something about his voice just soothes my soul lol. I’m really able to focus and absorb what he is saying and actually retain the info. He is very detailed but not to the point where it’s like, “okay this info isn’t necessary for the story.” He really lays out the timeline and story and it’s greatly appreciated!

  • If your spouse is coming home past midnight, and they don’t work the night shift somewhere, they are definitely cheating on you. Deal with it by calmly talking to them, and if that doesn’t work, leave them. Don’t, under any circumstances, get physical or even yell or threaten. Just calmly pack your bags and leave. Don’t become a True Crime story.

  • I have a friend who got a Philippine woman to come marry him. He was 45 and she was 20. He sent tons of money to her before she came here. And still sends her family money. Then after she got here she was trying to hook his friends up with her sister who had a new baby so she could come here. Sounds like true love to me lol.

  • I gotta say I’ve been perusal your website since Season 4 and I think I finally get why I like your website the most out of all true crime websites. It’s the fact you hook us with a sweet simple opening, explain backgrounds of both victims and monsters and always make sure that the monsters are not to be sympathized with but understood from a psychological standpoint. And you always make sure to respect victims. Anyways glad I get to see how your website has taken off and I hope you keep on bringing awareness to us all. And I hope you are blessed for the hard work you do. As always, cheers.

  • Thank you so much for all your hard work.! I really do appreciate it.! I’m disabled & spend most of my time in or on my bed, outdoors may as well be the surface of Mars to me. I also struggle to read & I can’t socialise nowadays so 99% of my social interaction, news, current affairs, entertainment & information in general comes from the Internet & YouTube. Finding people like yourself who produce high quality content on YouTube has made my life so much easier to endure. THANK YOU.! Please stay safe out there, make the most of what you have & best wishes from Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 🙏 ❤️.

  • This story it’s very similar to a lady that I meet long time ago in a shelter, same thing, the husband gave her everything as long didn’t leave the house, but when she was able to scape she didn’t know what to do after because he Never let her work or anything, so .. what she did.. yes you guessed it, she went back to him and I never heard from her again 🤷🏻‍♀️ very sad

  • This is a perfect example for why it’s infuriating to hear men call women “gold-diggers” at the drop of a hat. He offered this life to her, this was his plan. She was 19. He wanted to control her every move. This is what these kind of men do who offer women lives like this, while at the same time blaming women for only wanting money. Treating women as if they are the predators trolling for rich men is wildly inaccurate. Men who get women through the means of money want to own women, plain & simple.

  • 10:58 It’s hard for me to vilify this young (very young) woman who was essentially PURCHASED from the Philippines and brought to the US by a much, much older, socially awkward, very work driven man. It may not have been “true love” that brought her here, but it sounds like they were both upfront about what they each wanted from the relationship.

  • Jonathan felt like Miguel caused so much ruin on their relationship, but the way I see it is Michelle was vulnerable and open to being with Miguel because of Jonathan causing the ruin on their relationship. It just so happened to turn out that Michelle liked Miguel too after those affairs kicked off. Just shows you how controlling her life since immigration to the states and micro managing everything started to suffocate her and she began having those second thoughts

  • A friend of mine did the same thing Found a bride from Thailand The first thing he did was get married He bought them a house and bought her a brand new Honda Accord and she complained she wanted a BMW Then he would give her the credit card to buy clothes and she came home with Louise Vuttoin bags and Chanel clothing Now I’m talking about a guy who had to work two jobs to keep up with her spending Then the family members started showing up Brand new house for Mom and Dad and a house full of relatives You guys got to understand these woman know exactly what their doing They didn’t come here to be poor Needless to say the marriage lasted a year and he was smart enough to have a prenup but be aware people It’s not all a fairy tale!!!!

  • I ended up trapped in a relationship like this. He destroyed my vehicles, I had 3 in the 8 years. He kept forcing himself on me to keep me pregnant. He was trying to bury me with children so I could never get away. The police didn’t do anything but offer me a one night stay in a hotel and call CPS to further traumatize me and my children. It’s disgusting that women and children are treated like their lives don’t matter. I found a way out. I cashed in a retirement account I had. It has been 3 years since I took my kids and left. He still texts and drives by our house.

  • Jonathan was a smart guy at work but he couldn’t understand (what I thought would be) common sense, that IMPRISONMENT IS NOT “THE AMERICAN DREAM”. It doesn’t matter if the cage is gilded; it’s still a cage. He kept her trapped in a house and thought that giving her more money would make her happy when all she needed was some freedom and autonomy. He really is a monster. He wanted a prize, not a wife. A wife is a partner, not a pretty servant. Yikes.

  • If you are in a relationship, Don’t be a POS cheater. Just leave them. Also, don’t purchase a mail order bride. They both were using each other for what they wanted. Also, Normally i would agree with what you said about petite woman vs large man. But my best friend’s Mom is from Thailand, she’s a tiny woman. Her rage is something to see and I saw her pick up a 300# man and WWE his ass over a table like he weighed. Nothing. Those women are feisty and strong.

  • The presenter is painting Michelle as a innocent victim of oppression by her husband but that’s not true. Michelle was a pampered, spoiled, entitled liar and I won’t gloss over like the presenter did the fact that she was a adulterer. Jonathan took her from her poor village, gave her everything she ever wanted, sent money back to her family in the Philippines to take care of them and after his business failed and the money slowed, she abandoned him emotionally and physically. He was a man broken and pushed to his breaking point. I don’t condone what he did but damn I understand it.

  • When my oldest brother met a woman who is ten years younger than him, from the Philippines, through an online Asian dating site his friends at work told him about, he didn’t tell us right away. About 6 months after they started communicating he went there to meet her. She had a 3 year old son from a similar situation where she met a man from china. When she got pregnant, he refused to marry her or continue dating. I was freaked out at first, and a lot of it was from seeing this story covered on forensic files on Tv. But my brother married her about 6 months later. She and her son were finally able to come about a year later. They have a second son now, too who is already 5 years old. I had 4 grandchildren by the time he had his son. I never used our parents names when I named my children, because I had two older brothers, and one younger, and I felt like they would eventually have kids and it was their birthright to use their names. My Olderst brother and his wife (the two I’ve been talking about here) did just that, and I’m OVER THE MOON! Our dad passed away from dnd stage heart failure before the marriage and birth of his grandson, but I know he is proud of my brother. He and his sweet wife have one of the best relationships I’ve ever seen. They are truly in love, still, and are best friends. It’s beautiful and nothing like this case anymore. RIP beautiful lady. I hope the children are both safe and living happily, despite the tragedies they were dealt in this story.

  • They’re both guilty of all they went through. I have no appreciation for cheaters nor neglect. You’re supposed to become one when you marry…they’re both guilty guilty guilty. This wasn’t a healthy relationship once she felt the hours away of her husband. Johnathan was very nieve but could you blame him. Probably a virgin when he met her poor dude. Have a great day everyone 👍😊🇨🇦

  • I understand why John couldn’t divorce her. Had he divorced her, she would “win” in this whole situation. She would likely get most of his wealth, independence and residence in the US. While he lost his career, reputation, and now dignity by being cheated on. She had everything to gain, he had everything to lose, it just wasn’t fair and he couldn’t let her go so easy.

  • You’re the best Content Creator on YT to tell the heartbreaking story of Gabriel Fernandez please consider it he’s story seems to be forgotten and you telling his story might help others recognize the signs of child abuse because so many failed that child. Thank you for all your hard work I wish I could send more 🤍

  • What did he think he was going to get when he married a 19-year-old from another country? You couldn’t find someone local? Older and mature? She was just a child. He took advantage of that. But she got greedy but absolutely didn’t deserve to be killed. He should have just divorced her. This is sad all around. I feel the most sorry for the kids.

  • This is what drives men crazy. He gave her exactly what she said she wanted….an opulent lifestyle that allowed her to be a stay at home mother with a basically unlimited budget to spend however she wanted. But as is usually the case, you can make ’em happy but you can’t keep ’em happy. But we’ll toss around the usual buzzwords like controlling and domineering, just to muddy the waters some. Aside from the act of murder she was no better than he was, in fact she was a whole lot more calculating.

  • I find it hard to believe she was a ‘prisoner’. All the shopping, hundreds of thousands worth in just furniture, the vehicle he bought her to get around, he had no issues with her going to night school and even after he found her cheating he still obviously had no issues with her running around. Not once did she have an opportunity to make a friend in all the outings? She had no problem making a male friend. No mention of her family. Maybe it’s the way you presented this case but I’ll bet there is a hell of a lot more to it then how you formed your opinion into the case. I tend to appreciate your articles but this one rubs me the wrong way. Still will give it a like cause of the work you put into it.

  • When I was in High School (in the 90’s), there was a place called, “Toddville Mansion” in Seabrook, Texas. This was definitely a place that held real stories. It was EXTREMELY frightening, which of course led to dares to drive to it or go into it… Never a good idea… I only got to the front drive with my friends and got so scared that I reversed into a ditch trying to get away. Anyway, they have since torn the mansion down (good riddance). I would LOVE for you to take a deep dive into this haunted mansion with true tales of children luring, murd€rs and cober-ups which made the haunting more horrifying. I have looked it up a bunch, but cannot find too much more than the stories that were told about it when I was in school. I know if you can find the twists and turns of this disturbing real-life haunted house, you will not be disappointed! I know I’m emphasizing the haunted mansion, but there is DEFINITELY (obviously) the man behind the horror that ensued within. I have NO clue about him at all. Learning about him would be incredible. I’ve wondered about all the details of what actually happened there for nearly 30 years. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE look into this one. I swear you will be delving into a captivationg story that will take you down a rabbit hole and mesmerize your subs and visitors alike!!!! 🤗🤗

  • As much as this story desperately tries to be sympathetic, neither of these people seem like good people. On one hand, a murderer. Not much worse than that. Deserved more than he got for doing what he did. But trying to make her sound like an poor angel…she sounded like a gold digger who was happy to spend his money and cheat on him in a dirty motel while he was at work earning for their family. Doesn’t justify murder, but I don’t think anyone here who found their husband or wife doing this would make as many excuses for their behavior as this narrator.

  • As intelligent as he was, it led him down a road of total destruction of his own making, he sure looks like hell in that last mug shot, and of course animals have more rights than people, good old American Justice🙄, that’s not to say I’m not proud of the USA, but I totally disapprove of the So-called system and laws, especially for rich people🙄, I feel like I’ve watched an upload every day, each one more interesting than the other, 👍🏻👍🏻great health and happiness to you and yours✌🏻💕

  • I am 10 min into this article and base what I’ve learned so far I think I have enough to make a prediction. The woman is going to make friends with other women that she lives around Jonathan’s going to realize all of that good wife outside of America bride crap is going to fly out the window as soon as the rest of the women explain to this girl how easy it is to get a divorce how the the state and the family courts will be on her side and if she’s willing to do a little lying to the police she can start a fight with her husband make it look like he hit her and call the cops that’ll make the divorce and getting custody of the children so much easier. But I’m not saying that’s what’s going to happen in this situation could obviously there’s a murder involved. Before she had a chance to carry out divorce plans she started having enough Fair with the butler no no the groundskeeper. Beyond that I have no idea what happened but I can tell already what this hypergamous woman is going to do to this incel guy.

  • The tail of an American man who thought “hey if I can buy a house, surely I can buy a wife!”😂 American men with nothing to offer a woman: “I want a tradcon wife, but just like my fellow tradcon men I have no personality and American women are too ambitious, independent, are used to having human rights, and being treated with respect so I think I’ll just buy one from overseas!” (sorry guys my cousin-in-law rescued his now wife of 15 years from one these “pen-pal” orgs & they are very much buying & selling women & teenagers I have first hand knowledge on this) Borderline teenage trad-wife once in America: “Holy **it! Women have actual rights in a marriage here! Wait, (depending on country of origin) women actually have bodily autonomy and rights like men in America? I’m going to school! American man now tradcon husband: “Sure, you can go to school 😂 not like it means anything to me because I sincerely believe women lack the ability of higher brain function.” She succeeds/Finds someone else/cheats/asks for a divorce/is Americanized(embraces the freedom afforded to her as an American) American man with nothing to offer a woman realizes that money is not a personality trait and women aren’t in fact dogs that he can’t train and lock in a crate while he’s at work, so he kills her.

  • I appreciate all the time in effort you put into every case you cover. Can you please cover the case of Granville Ritchie. He killed Felicia “Sugar Plum” Williams. Her life was ended by this disgusting man on May 16, 2014. She was only nine years old. Of course this took place in Florida, in my opinion 🤔 she was let down by her self appointed “godmother” Eboni Riley. Please know who you allow your to be around before it’s to late.

  • Murder is never okay, but his wife was cheating on him and (possibly) trying to extort him as well. It’s sad to say, but Filipino women have a bad track record as far as marrying men looking for a relationship via mail order and exploiting them to the point ICE actively interrogates them for ulterior motives while applying for a green card. A co-worker of mine who immigrated from the Philippines told me she was driven to tears from the nature of the questions. But that being said, in general, looking for readymade love out of desperation is a recipe for disaster because one party or the other will try to take advantage of the situation.

  • They lived 20 minutes from my house. Nyce is a lot of things, but calling him a “monster” like Chris Watts or something is ridiculous. According to him (and there’s no reason to disbelieve him, because it actually makes the murder case stronger) the night of the fatal argument, she told him that she only married him for the money (shocker!) and to get into America. But now that she was a US citizen she was going to dump him and also try to get custody of the kids. There’s no doubt he snapped and slammed her head into the garage floor. But they wildly overcharged him with 1st degree murder and the result is that jury didn’t buy it.

  • Seems like she never truly loved him, she only saw dollar signs. Because after he found out about the affair she didn’t care about how it hurt her husband, she cared about the taint on their reputation. And only thing she seemed to know best was spend his money. He even tried to make things right again, but she still didn’t want to fix anything. And that guy was wayyyy too controlling and insecure, no wonder she snapped one day.

  • What does someone expect when you leave kids to be babysat by the person your going out on, that your married to. Yeah she young and she knew to be bought by him to pay for her family. What did she expect? When you go out with the gardener she paid him too with the husbands money. What did the husband expect to buy a teenage bride? They both got what they wanted

  • I have to say I feel sorry for Jonathan. The man was dedicated to his work, gave his grasping wife all she desired, and for a poor peasant she desired an awful lot. Like many men shopping for a take-away wife, he was more than a little naive. Of course he didn’t want her out partying while he was struggling at work 16 hours a day.. he didn’t trust her and she proved him right.

  • The fact that Michelle was from the Philippines (I refuse to describe her with the insulting epithet “mail order bride”) has nothing whatsoever to do with the case. This is a case of a controlling husband, a bored and lonely wife, and a couple who didn’t communicate properly. These things can and do occur in many marriages, regardless of the ethnicity of the respective partners.

  • murderer yes. but monster? she willingly accepted the marriage for money purposes only. ate up as much as she could and then cheated on him constantly. he took her to parties and did what he could to make her feel comfortable. she got to “go out with friends” and went to “night school” till past midnight. when he got fired, she was the one who was mad about him spending more time in the house. how was she in a prison exactly? i don’t get it edit: ok well yikes, while i don’t think he’s a monster or that she was in a prison, i’m also not agreeing to the misogyny in these newer comments. there’s nothing “feminist” about this story. please understand what feminism is before throwing out buzz words, people.

  • Not saying it was the right course of action…but I can understand his frustration…took this woman from the slums…gave her everything she desired financially…while not in the article I’m sure he even sent money back to her family…worked his butt off to provide said things…got fired…only to realize he’s been betrayed…while using unconventional methods…he tried restoring things…only to eventually be betrayed once again

  • This lady had herself on a pedestal. She wanted to use him for money and status but didnt seem to care about him. I don’t believe she was trapped in the house bc she was saying she was going out w her friends and stuff when she was actually cheating on him. I’m not excusing what he did AT ALL but his hurt, anger and frustration is understandable. He should have just divorced her. I know she would have gotten some of his money but they both would have been better off.

  • Clearly he was not a controlling man the whole story goes against this she got to do whatever she wanted she didn’t appreciate it and she cheated on him more than once and he lost it which should not have happened. His whole life’s work taken from him and the one thing he thought he had betrayed him multiple times after everything he’s done for her the jury was right it’s tragic. I just don’t see throughout the story but he is the controlling person she got to do whatever she wanted the negative spit on him is over the top.

  • My heart goes out to Michelle, so young and trapped 🥺. Does anyone know where their kids went? Are they in foster care/his family? I imagine they aren’t with hers…just seems like it would be hard and a lot of work to get them to the Philippines. Really enjoying your abandoning the season format to just present all these tragic, fascinating cases.

  • In absolutely NO WAY do I agree with him murdering his wife . However, I think it is a very sad situation all round . It would seem ( to me ), that there was an agreed arrangement with what each person was seeking from the other . Right from the start . In general, I find it extremely sad that we, as humans, are never satisfied with what we have in life and are always seeking more.An extremely sad case 😢

  • The editorializing on the spending habits of his wife / the lavish things he bought for her are in very poor taste. She met Jonathan as a 20 year old, non fluent English speaker living in poverty in the Philippines who genuinely believed that being listed in a mail order bride catalogue was the path to a happy life. That is not a gold digger and the people in the comments section calling her as much are either extremely ignorant or harboring some deeply toxic thoughts about relationships.

  • What he did was absolutely wrong, NO DOUBT !! But I remember when this happened VERY well. Her boyfriend DID call her husband & wanted $500,000 or otherwise, he WOULD publicized their affair. The WORST part of it, was Michelle was the one behind it ALL !! The plan was Michelle would give her boyfriend half of the money. Johnathan had been taking care of her parents & her ten siblings, plus built a new house for them in the Philippines. Whereas before that, they were living in a one room shack w/o running water OR electricity. When he got that phone call, which WAS recorded, Johnathan than made her get a job. I believe it was at a Dillard’s, at the make-up department for Lancome. She also had been giving her boyfriend thousands of dollars of Johnathan’s money. He attacked her in the garage, when she got home at 0230, where the police found all the blood. I believe that is EXACTLY why the jury voted as they did. What he did was ABSOLUTELY wrong, but there is more to this ugly story. That phone was recorded & it was played. I know because the Defense played it & parts of it were played on T.V. & I, along with thousands heard it. “This is Monsters” is the VERY best on reporting crime & I LOVE it, but in this case, there are parts that may have been hidden by the lawyers. But I know I heard that tape & her botfriend, on the Stand, admitted both he & Michelle were in on it. Too bad Johnathan did NOT learn anything !!

  • Whenever one is void of social skills,it’s best that he sticks to his research and forget the wife and kids scenario. He was lonely,as if that is a good reason to get married. Why bring a women from abroad? When American girls don’t understand or like you, why would a foreign girl find you interesting? Plus this I want to save a poor girl syndrome, does not mean I want a slave. Although that is what usually happens. Nearly a twenty year age difference is ludicrous. This whole thing was effed up from the word go.

  • Michelle came from a small village – Jonathan offered her too much too soon, getting her accustomed to a wealthy lifestyle that she never had. Instead of starting a sexual relationship she could have gotten a course of her interest, joined some womens’ club etc. This should be a lesson to men n women alike looking in foreign countries WHEN there are so many women in your own. Not saying he did the right thing in killing her…which was wrong n his sentence should have been longer for taking a life.

  • I’ll start by saying murder is unacceptable and he should have gotten a much harsher sentence. But wow that woman was a piece of work – she should not have died for it, of course. She wanted a rich husband to support her so she could stay at home with her children in a nice home in America, and he gave her everything she asked for. Once she had all that, she decided it wasn’t what she wanted. She wasn’t “locked in” the house, she clearly could leave whenever she wanted or she wouldn’t have been able to cheat on him or go to her supposed night classes. He built her a gym at home, which could quite easily be shown as a kind gesture from a loving husband. Clearly he was willing to let her get an education and maybe even a job if that’s what she wanted. Even after the affair was exposed, he tried to change his behaviour to make her happy. If she was unhappy, she could have divorced him, and walked with at least half of their sizable estate (that he had built without her). Or gone to marriage counselling to save the marriage. She could have realized that she had the life she asked for, and been content. I’ll say again – she should not have been murdered. She did not deserve that. But being a victim of a terrible crime doesn’t mean your bad behaviour is acceptable.

  • Usually, I agree with the final summing up of events. However, this time I can’t endorse calling the husband “monster”. Had I served on that jury he would have walked a free man. No pity towards a fool so easily stimulated by another-EVEN UNTO DEATH! Make a promise or move on but don’t say you will then don’t. Truth, sets us free but lies often find someone dead. RIP…

  • The matchmaker seems like a fun guy. I mean, in these awkward interactions you probably need to have a sense of humor! These creepy old men always seem to say they want a real connection but they just want a young trophy wife to do their bidding and not talk back. With a language barrier it makes it easier for them to get away with a shitty attitude.

  • Lake reminds me of an Adam Yauch character from the Beastie Boys – he has a Sir Stewart Wallace vibe! There was a point in the episode where Louis asks Lawrence and Lake why they think men are more enticed by Thai women over western girls They ponder and discuss this question, with Lake finally concluding that western women want to be men. Lake then says ‘you know when it started?….’ He never finished that sentence and I was devastated, I desperately want to know what he was going to say. The reason that kick started western men wanting to eastern women, according to Lake. As a western woman I feel there is much to learn from Master Lake. We will never know what those pearls of wisdom were.

  • Back in the 90’s Lawrence Lynch hired me to work in his music shop in Kidderminster. One weekend he announced that the shop was closed because he was moving house and I had to help him move. His idea of packing was gaffa taping his overstuffed wardrobes closed and making me and a friend I co-opted carry them 200 yards to the transit van he had hired which was too small. He was a weird little man.

  • One thing I don’t get with this whole Thai bride situation (which has been going on for decades), is what do ordinary Thai men think of it all? Like….are they just totally chilled about the whole thing? I don’t think I’ve ever heard of a Thai man losing it and physically attacking Western men for their continued and often very successful pursuit of Thai women. I wonder if any journalist has thought to ask Thai men for their opinion. Or perhaps the media simply isn’t interested in what they think…..

  • I feel for him even though he’s controlling and self-pitying. I think if he had more self-awareness he’d be able to maybe see why he’s failed with British women in the past. All any of us can do is try to better ourselves. As Jordan Peterson said “if all the women are rejecting you, who’s got the problem? it’s you”. Developing himself into someone more fun, respectful, and less condescending might help to attract women. I think he just says all British women are mean and too liberated, putting the onus on them, because he’s: Been cheated on, isn’t attracted to women close to his age which is all he could attract back home, feels emasculated by the fact that most women are educated, experienced in relationships, can hold an intelligent conversation, and can see through a weak man in this day and age. So basically he wants a young foreigner who makes him feel smart and dominant with her broken English. So he’s not a very mature man. That being said, he’s only human, women can be hard to impress and his loneliness is understandable

  • This is so disgusting and depressing. Beautiful young Thai woman literally selling herself as a bride to a pretty unattractive man that can’t elevate his character but instead thinks a loyal, loving partner is something he can organise, control, purchase and possess. He is the problem. 2 divorces is pretty revealing. These men can’t work on themselves, so they create these conditional, transactional relationships with poor young women trying to escape poverty. It’s so backward, creepy and depressing. Ugh.

  • Oh lord. I cannot even finish this article. my dad did this. We don’t speak much anymore. I was 19 and she was 20. My father was well into his 60’s and a grandfather. Now I am 37. She is 38. My dad is now 80. She just did invitro to ensure she will have his money. Their twin daughters are now 1. My dad is also a great grand father from my older sisters. Those great grand children are older than those twins. Non of his grand kids speak to him. My own kids included. I am the only one of my siblings who still occasionally call him for Xmas and father’s day (sometimes).

  • When I watched it, I thought that Ronnie was more creepy than Lawrence. However, I have been able to find more recent footage of Lawrence. His wife has a Youtube website with articles of Lawrence discussing the agency in 2012. The comments underneath are from guys that have been scammed by Lawrence out of money. Also from doing some Googling, Jad (not their real name), who non-legally married Lake after 2 days at a Buddhist ceremony, scammed Lake out of money too! She was still married to another Englishman and so her visa to live in UK with Lake was denied. Then she dumps Lake to go marry/scam a Belgian man. So Lake was scammed by Lawrence and Jad and yet still looks abroad for a wife rather than UK, according to an interview clip from 2001 Trisha. I mean surely it is suspicious if someone agrees to marry you (even if not legally), after 2 days. The bride is either brainwashed, trafficked or a scammer themselves probably.

  • Thai women aren’t demure. My little girls Mum left her husband over here and then we met. She is ferocious and beautiful with the most beautiful daughters I’ve ever seen. They won’t sit in the house for a man like that and at the first opportunity will jump the fence for a sweet looking or smelling man their own age especially if he can provide something new and exciting. Ever see Thai girls get together socially all they do is laugh and tell filthy jokes and compare their men in every way. They’re demanding. Many Thais come with nothing and build successful businesses. They’re real grafters..
