What size wood for a welcome sign?

Start your wood welcome sign. This DIY project is simple! To make a wood welcome sign, first cut your boards. You need two sizes of wood. We used three 2x4x8 boards and one 2x4x6 board. We cut our 2x4x8 boards down to 6 feet each. We need smooth edges. Next, we sanded the edges and laid them out with the 2x4x6 board. Next, we clamped two boards together. To do this, clamp the Kreg Jig to the outer board and drill a pilot hole. We used this Amazon drill. After drilling the hole, insert a 1.5″ screw to secure the boards together. Repeat six times down the length of the board. My husband did it twelve times down each side. Do it the same on the other two boards. Once you’re done drilling, lay the two sets of 2x4x6 boards side by side with the drill holes on the outer edges. Come back to this board in a minute! Use those scrap pieces! Remember those leftover pieces? We’re going to use these scraps to make a welcome sign.

  • Hi How are you!! First Thank you for this very well done and explained article!! This is the third time I try to make a welcome sign myself and fail again… My most important problem is that when I trace the letters with my paint pen, the first coat is super light obviously, but when I try to go back and do a second coat for my writing to be more dark and clear, I just can’t do it!! It’s like when I rewrite with the same paint pen, it erases the coat that is under… Should I leave it to dry a lot between 2 coats ?? Because on the pen it says fast dry and when I touch, I really feel it’s dry but then I repaint with an other coat and it doesn’t work… PLZ HELP, I need to do it for in two days !!!
