Does Deleting Reels Affect Engagement?

Instagram Reels, which started as a TikTok dupe, are not meant to be reposted. The content that is visibly recycled from other apps, such as TikTok watermarks, looks like reposts and the Instagram algorithm will penalize you if you post them to your reels. To avoid this, create more engaging posts by leading with a strong hook and pulling viewers in immediately. Archiving posts does not affect engagement metrics, but it allows you to hide content from your followers while still having access to the data.

Instagram’s algorithm now takes into account various factors, including engagement, relevance, and recency. When you delete a post, it affects the engagement metrics associated with it. If your post had garnered a healthy number of likes and comments, deleting it could indirectly impact your overall engagement rate. However, archiving posts does not lower your engagement; it actually raises engagement of the overall account.

Consistency is key for Stories, so make sure to post regularly to keep the algorithm happy and your content in front of your followers. Additionally, if you post consistently, your profile will be labeled as “active,” which can help increase visibility.

Deleting Instagram posts or Reels does not affect engagement, as it is best not to delete any content published on your profile. The Instagram algorithm works by recommending content that a user is likely to interact with. However, there are common mistakes people make when creating Reels that can hurt their reach and engagement.

In conclusion, deleting posts on Facebook can affect your pages algorithmic performance in various ways, but by being strategic, you can avoid the negative impacts of deleting posts or Reels on your account engagement.

  • A lot of my photos have popped off recently and gotten me more followers while my reels struggle to reach 1,000 likes. My reels used to be what got me followers and it’s interesting to me that this change happened after I got reels bonus and gifts on my reels. I don’t want to sound pessimistic, but it feels to me like these things are done on purpose :/

  • I run an IG for a local page and have had trouble reaching additional customers that are nearby(I’ve had a fair amount of posts do well but they only reach a small percentage in and around my city). Any tips on what I should do to get content pushed to them as well as any other tips for getting them into the store through IG?\r Thanks!

  • Could you please do a article on what to do with Instagram ghost followers? I have around 14K followers, but I typically only reach 200-300 followers with any types of content, whenever something is picked up more by the algorithm, I get some followers that I rarely see commenting and liking it, so my guess is that Instagram is usually just not showing my content to them (if they didn’t like my content, they wouldn’t be commented on that one post that got shown, right? I assure you it’s the same type of content), maybe because ghost followers ignore the post and the algorithm thinks it’s not good enough. It is hard to go through all of the 14K followers manually and even if I do, it would be hard to tell which followers are real, except for a few very obvious bots.

  • I can’t post reels, Instagram won’t let me. I have 6 reels in draft. And I can’t upload them. I’d love to post a reel daily, but it deletes them and says they restrict certain activity to make the community safe. I’m following guidelines, my account status is good. New to instagram, and in less than a week, my reels are disabled……my last reel was finally taken off (reaching around 1000 per day)…and because I can’t post more reels, it’s now down to reaching maybe 200……😢 all my posts are positive, no negative content, meant to inspire and motivate. It’s been 6 days. Frustrated. On top of it all I’ve reached out to instagram, facebook, dms emails, and support requests. No response……several attempts.

  • I think YouTube is in this messed up phase now. I used to get 1,000’s of views on my full-length articles after uploading but now my newer ones are only from 15-30 views if I’m lucky. I have multiple websites and it’s only the shorts that are doing well. Most of them have jumped in views in shorter times. Seems like the Algo is only pushing the shorts right now.

  • I wonder if some countries get boosted more than other or if posting in english from a non-english speaking country can affect the reach like it does on tik tok. I managed to grow from 0 to 1k in 2018 alone, but since 2019 I only got 728 new followers, I post the same content as before and more often than before, so I really don’t understand what’s happening. I noticed a few things that made pictures more popular, but I can’t keep posting that, my business focuses and sell other stuff, so posting more of that content that has more reach might bring me more follower, but it will be counter productive as they wouldn’t come for the stuff I sell.

  • I can confirm this. I have an acc about anime and I used to get alot of reach with reals. But lately I’ve noticed not only is reach dead but also every day followers are decreasing significantly ( I post high quality content though) and I have heared alot of people having this issue. Is it true josh ? And what would you reccomend?

  • I have come to the conclusion that my problem on IG and TikTok isn’t my content. I believe it’s simply NOT KNOWING WHEN TO POST! I read my insights, and I have tried different times, posting multiple times a day, and it’s just not working out. How do I know when to post my content? How can I find this secret sauce that other big accounts apparently know that I don’t?
