I’ve been putting this off, but I had to do this… There wasn’t a proper or complete version of this on Youtube, so I decided it’s that …
What gets me is his three sons are the only thing in his life that he doesn’t freak out about when he turns into hank. He never berates them, or calls them out like he does with almost everyone else. It means that regardless of every other emotion he’s had to swallow over the years he did actually love his children.
Loved how Charlie (still having a backbone before Layla left) stood up for his kids (biological or not regardless) and would’ve outright floored Finnard as he did at the end without Hank if not for Colonel Forrester. Hank acted tough but as aggressive and psycho as he was he was weak. Hank lost every fight. Once Charlie regained his courage he was twice as tough as Hank.
Such a great film! Jim Carrey doesn’t get the credit he deserves because he’s seen as a ‘comedy actor’. He’s been in so many great films over the years, the truman show, the cable guy, eternal sunshine of a spotless mind to name but a few. My favourite is this film tho, I’ve seen it countless times and it brings just as much joy as the first time I seen it.
I started working close to this house delivering oil. I remember fueling up the house next door. Not the neighbor with the dog but the other side. That house is not the same anymore. Lots of additions. This was on great island ri. My coworkers would tell me stories about them bringing trees and shrubs in to make it look like time went by.
As a black man, this ish is hilarious! Up there with Tropic Thunder. Loving it. Funny as hell. I always show this and the Tropic Thunder scenes to people who keep on busting my balls with “Oooooow… I guess we can’t joke about race anymore?! Huh!?”. Yeah you can, but there is a difference. And this my friend, is the prime example of being funny as hell.
Theres something really satisfying about this scene. Its an explosive topic but Dad in the background knew what was happening and deescalated in the best way possible, guy realizes it and feels bad but just blames it on the beer even though he appears completely sober. Goes and pats old man on the back like yeah ok I get it, lets have a good time. No words said just kept the awkwardness to a minimum. Really efficient.
This flick filmed a few minutes down the street from my house. It was a huge deal the summer they were shooting this, and my friend was hired by Jim to be his personal assistant while he stayed in town. She got $800 a week to buy groceries, run errands and mix him drinks, which was a lot of money for a 20 year old at the time.
