Why isn’t the groom supposed to see the brides dress?

Origin: In the past, couples weren’t allowed to see each other before marriage. The wedding was a business deal between two families. A father would have been happy for his daughter to marry a man from a rich family. But he also feared that if the groom didn’t like the bride, he’d cancel the wedding, which would shame the bride and her family. So it became tradition that the bride and groom met at the wedding ceremony. And that veil the bride wears? The veil was also to hide the bride’s face until the last moment, when it was too late to cancel the wedding. Today: Most brides still don’t want their grooms to see them all done up before the wedding. Many think it makes the day more exciting. Some couples want to see each other before the ceremony. You can also take your formal pictures before the ceremony. It’s up to you and your groom. Discuss it before the wedding and decide what’s best for you. The bride must wear something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue, and a silver sixpence in her shoe.

Origin: This old rhyme is a tradition that is supposed to bring the bride luck. Wearing “something old” shows the couple wants to keep their family ties after marriage. One tradition says the bride should wear an old garter given to her by a happy married woman to bring her luck in marriage. Wearing something new shows the couple is starting a new life together. “Something borrowed” is a way for the bride’s friends or family to give her a special gift. Finally, “something blue” symbolizes fidelity and constancy. This custom began in ancient Israel, where brides wore blue ribbons in their hair to symbolize their promise to their husbands. The rhyme actually ends with “and a silver sixpence in her shoe.” The story says that putting a penny in the bride’s shoe will bring her good fortune.

  • That dress is a disaster and my heart went out to that young woman! Reminded me of a cheap belly dancer outfit. What was he thinking?!? He wasn’t, that’s the problem and that, coupled with poor taste on his part … well, it was a disaster!! I hope she put her foot down and said NO! I’d be re-thinking the whole marriage thing. I hope that all turns out well for her.

  • LMAO the dress look like a strippers dress!!! I felt so horribly bad for her!!! It’s almost like he put NO thought into making something that she would be comfortably in let alone want to wear, and I kinda think he purposely choose that horrible thing to humiliate her. She’s better then me cause I’d sell it and purchase another dress or hell just wear jeans and tee shirt cause that’s how bad it is! .

  • This whole thing just feels so immature. Why get married at the college? Are they sitting on giant toy blocks? Seriously? And then a pink wedding dress? Designed by someone who has probably never designed an article of clothing in their life before? And they should all take it seriously because it has “sentimental value”? Like hun, it has sentimental value if you HANDMADE the dress. It doesn’t have sentimental value when you sketch a design and hand it over for someone else to make. 🙄🙄🙄

  • Let’s look at his paraphrased responses to the phone call: ‘Why is the dress a joke?’ ‘I like belly dancers.’ no response to, ‘What will her father think?’ ‘Babe, I made every part of that for you.’ ignores ‘You took a risk with the one thing I told you not to take a risk with’ ‘That dress was expensive.’

  • It’s understandable that she didn’t like the dress, but given that she knew it was a dress-making shop she knew that the woman standing there probably made it, so she shouldn’t have been so rude. Feeling upset oneself is no justification for hurting other people. I think it’s bad enough when they are really rude about dresses that others shops have simply chosen to sell, but when someone has put many hours into something, they at least deserve the feedback to be gentle.

  • Producers must have known they struck reality TV drama GOLD when they came up with this idea. Letting the man plan the wedding instead of the woman is like letting a kid run the White House for a couple of months : a recipy for WW III 🤣 Unfortunately men have to ‘undergo’ their wedding mostly. I’m glad me and my husband had the same vision : just throw a huge eating, dancing and drinking party for everyone we love and keep the ceremonial bits to the STRICKTEST minimum. Best day of our lives No stress whatsoever

  • Totally hate the dress. Here’s the thing, he thought it would be a nice thing and very romantic to design it himself; truth is that when u have no idea of dress designing or taste at all… You don’t play around with your fiance’s wedding dress man. Plus his attitude, OMG… Be a little more simpathethic, she’s calling you crying because she’s having a hard time with the mess u designed. And some advice, cheap looking has nothing to do with the price. Your dress is crap, man. You better apologize to her and cancel the wedding til u learn something about her.

  • The woman with the black shirt and long hair isn’t helping. The way she reacted can also effect the bride’s mood, she should have stayed calm and try her best to comfort the bride, not stress the bride out even more. But that’s just what I thought and felt perusal the article, if I was the bride and my friend/anyone with me at the moment reacted that way it’ll make me feel horrible

  • If he wanted and designed and executed that much money on that dress without any care for, and it’s obvious the dress was only for him, not her…. He should be the one to wear it. Also the fact that he sunk THAT much money on that purchase without even getting her opinion on the design BEFORE it was made…. it looks like they should NOT have joint finance accounts in the future. They could lose their flat with his unrealistic, impulse-driven purchases! ._. Think of that type of personality when tempted by a expensive, flashy car!

  • For me, what Raian did was something very nice and special, knowing that he planted everything for the wedding day. He put all his heart and effort to get everything right, and if it were the future girlfriend would be happy and very, very thankful… Well, I hope you have a nice life together and congratulations to both of you. 😑😁😂😂😘😘🤘🤘👍✊✊👏👏👏👏❤❤❤

  • If I was the females on this show I would make sure to leave a list of what I would love and what I would hate before he or I leave for the three weeks for they didn’t say as of the time you sign the contract you should not communicate with each other you have the rest of the time still together until you leave give him something to work with just my prerogative

  • I watch all of these shows, I think I have only seen a couple of the women like the dress and most of them wear the not so bad ones but are not happy about it !! This dress is just horrible !! I bet he spent most of that money on his stag night and his and the best mans suits !! it definitely wasn’t the venue !!!

  • What is wrorng with these women? The dress will be a large chunk of the budget,. Where do they think he wil find moeny for another dress is they dont like it?. If they don`t even bother to tell the groom what kind of dress they want beforehand then they just have to put up with it. They gave the groom the chocie of gown when they agreed to go ont he show.

  • Well I don’t mind the pinkiness. But the design was atrociously awful. Those see-through panels were beyond weird. Might work with a really good designer, but not with the local dressmaker. This is probably one of the worst dresses I have ever seen in the show. However I am sure the groom had his heart in the right place, and didn’t do it maliciously.

  • Who is more romantic? Woman: Everything must be perfect! If something is not – the wedding is a failure! “I could kill him right now” Man: Bride can be in rugs, weather may be shitty, there can be river of vomits, used condoms and old ladies corpses outside, but the day is still perfect becouse I’m marrying a woman that I love!

  • The dress is hideous and because he is a man he doesn’t understand that he was ripped off. That mess was acrylic and polyester from head to toe! When you have a everyday seamstress make a dress you are paying extra money for a rush job,she also used the cheapest material for this awful gown in order for her to make more profit. There are so many things that you can DIY at a wedding but you don’t get a dress done by a person who is used to sewing 🧵 with a pattern. I don’t understand why that seamstress would deliver such a gross product on national television. It makes her look incredibly incompetent.

  • She already had a bad attitude and when she found the dress was pink, her friends and family reacted the same as she did. They were even yelling at her fiance over the phone – bad bad bad…not their place and she allowed it??? No thanks. I think he tried to do a good thing. It didn’t go well but this is a hint of the future..how he tries, how she reacts 😞…

  • Anyone else not really think it’s a big deal? When I get married I’ll be surrounded by friends and family, and I want it to be more about sentimentality and our relationship than looking like a magazine. The people at the wedding will know me, and they & I will be happy no matter what I’m dressed in or where we are. These people are getting married for free, so why shouldn’t they go crazy and do what they want?
