The average wedding guest list size in the U.S. is 117 guests, but there are two schools of thought when it comes to figuring out how many guests to invite. You can choose to choose your venue first and base your guest count on the venues. At minimum, the couples’ immediate family and wedding party members should be invited. On a traditional wedding invite, you’ll start with details of the church wedding ceremony followed by the reception details.
When inviting guests, consider sending invitations early, sending them six to eight weeks in advance, or creating a “cover” to fool guests into thinking they are attending an engagement party. When it comes to family members, it’s generally an etiquette faux pas to ask someone to attend a bridal shower without extending an invitation to the wedding. However, you can extend the shower guest list to those not invited to the wedding for any reason.
When it comes to couples who have invited you to their wedding, the short answer is no. Consider the following things to help decide if you will include them in your wedding guest list:
1. Send invitations early. Etiquette states that the RSVP deadline should be around three weeks before your wedding date, with invitations getting mailed six to eight weeks in advance.
2. Consider inviting someone to your reception but not the wedding itself. You can think about holding a vow renewal in the future, hosting a casual dinner party at your new home, or extending a peace offering to certain guests.
3. Personalize your wedding invitations with color scheme, artsy details, and font. The only people who should invite anyone to a wedding are the hosts, generally the couple getting married.

My brother-in-law and sister-in-law had a child free wedding with the exception of our son. He stayed for the ceremony (well, tried to run off, so my husband’s cousin went to grab him) but once the necessary pictures were over, we dropped him off at a friend’s house for the evening so we didn’t have to worry about a 2 year old. We just picked him back up at the end of the evening. 🤷🏻♀️ We won’t have a child free vow renewal as most of our friends have kids (as do we). If we had a big wedding when we first got married, it’d probably be kid free. 🤷🏻♀️
A friend just got married and said that she sent a notice out saying “NO KIDS” and then had hers and her hubby’s kids and a few people were quite pissed off. They said they should of been allowed to bring their kids. However, here is the exception that I believe… If they are the Bride and Grooms kids don’t complain. They are part of their parents getting married so they are the only exception to the rule. The Bride and Groom had 2 female family members that own a daycare take the kids after dinner to another room and watch them. Then, the grandparents took over for them to go on a Honeymoon.
