How Does Marriage Work In Stardew Valley Multiplayer?

In Stardew Valley, players can marry other playable characters in multiplayer mode, allowing them to interact with each other and grow their farms together. This mode accommodates one to four co-op players, enabling players to interact with them and interact with their spouses. The marriage feature in multiplayer is different from single-player mode, as only one player can marry an NPC at a time. Children are added to the married couples.

In multiplayer mode, you can marry other playable characters, such as friends or loved ones, but the method of marriage is not the same. Eligible bachelors and bachelorettes can marry in Stardew Valley, with six eligible bachelors and eight eligible bachelorettes. Same-sex marriage is available after reaching 10 hearts with a certain marriageable villager. For marriageable villagers, players must first give them a bouquet (bought from Pierre’s store) after reaching 8 hearts.

Marriage and romance in co-op mode work similar to single-player mode, with each co-op farmer pursuing any eligible villager they want. However, a villager can also be married. To marry another player in multiplayer mode, players must give them a Wedding Ring, a craftable item that only appears in multiplayer mode.

The game does not allow for both players to be married to Penny at the same time. The NPC can only move in/marry you if your house is upgraded. Each player in a coop save is assigned a house/cabin. Marriage confers a Stardrop to both partners immediately after their marriage, and a giftbox containing the Stardrop appears inside their shared cabin.

Multiplayer is an optional game mode in which 1-8 players can join the same world through split-screen, over LAN, or by IP address. If handled where players are co-farmers on a single farm, it would likely work on a first come basis where both players can build their own farms.

  • Opposite-gender couples will have biological children, and same-gender couples will have adopted children. The only difference is that a same-gender spouse will ask if you want to adopt a child instead of have one.2
  • The gender of your first child is random. The second child born (if there is one) will be the opposite gender of the first. Youre only allowed to have one son and one daughter.
  • In multiplayer, the main player will randomly be asked if they want children overnight. If they say yes, their farmhand spouse will be asked. If both players say yes a child will be born or adopted with the same rules as if your character was married to an NPC.

It takes 14 days for a child to arrive, no matter if they are biological or adopted. If you have a biological child they will appear in a crib in the nursery, and if you have an adopted child they will show up in the middle of the night with a note from the adoption agency.

  • Stage 1 is 14 days long, and the child will be a baby sleeping in their crib. You cannot interact with the child yet, as all interactions will just be the baby sleeping.3
  • Stage 2 is 14 days long, and the child will still be a baby in their crib, but will be awake for part of the day. If you interact with the child, your player can toss them in the air, which will improve your friendship. At 7 p.m. the child falls asleep and cant be interacted with.4
  • Stage 3 is 28 days long, and the child is now out of the crib and can crawl around. The children can play with toys, but will return to their crib at 7 p.m. and cannot be interacted with while sleeping.5
  • Stage 4 is the final stage of your childs growth. This is known as the toddler stage, and your child will not get any older. Toddlers will run around the house, and can be taken to community events like the Stardew Valley Fair. You can interact with your child to raise friendship.6

Use the MULTIPLE SPOUSES mod to do that. Have as many spouses as you want and a room mate too. I had 10 spouses and Krobus still came to live with me. He gets his own room. He kissed my spouses around the house. Last edited by Queen Droxxanna on 1/16/2022 at 4:46 pm.

  • if you wanna get married in a wedding dress/suit heres how to make them with tailoring! wedding dress: bridal veil: cloth plus pearl (easiest way to get a pearl is via the night market mermaid show) flowy skirt: cloth plus sunflower or fairy rose shirt: sleeveless shirt: cloth plus radish or red cabbage spagetti strap top: cloth plus coral, nautilus shell, or sea urchin tube top: cloth plus sea cucumber or super cucumber suit: shirt: cloth plus bouquet pants : cloth plus strawberry, pineapple, cranberry, or wild plum (or just dye ur regular pants black if you chose the long pants at character creation) for dying put in basically any elligable dye pot material and then make everything white or black, i like to use hops or fiber because its easy to get (the suit top is already black)

  • How do you even get to that point with friends? I thought I read you can date them as well? There’s no 10 heart thing or bouquet progress like in the regular game? Or am I missing something? My friend and I have been giving each other gifts and getting the little heart word bubble over their heads, but nothing seems to change. Help?

  • There are some disadvantages on multiplayer. I’ve been playing with my wife and son for the last weeks. One instance that is REALLY annoying is that doing the skull cavern is now REALLY hard. Time doesn’t stop when you’re eating, so you die much easier. Also, the default “knockback” doesn’t work as it does on single player. Monsters keep walking to you even after you hit them. One other really annoying thing is that when someone is in a cutscene (and even though I know most of them from heart, my wife and 8 year old son don’t, so they have to sloooooooowly read everything) time is not paused. You can pass out at 2 AM if you are in a long-ish cutscene. There’s a mod that will make you invincible while you’re eating and also pause when any player is in a cutscene. We’ve been using that and it removes those annoying problems without making it that much easier.

  • Something else to bring up is how different professions work in multiplayer. Mainly, the ones that affect sale prices will cover everyone even if they don’t have it. So if one person has the Artisan profession, that affects the sale prices of all artisan goods, regardless of who ships them. The professions that affect actions, on the other hand, are only for that player. So only crops planted by the Agriculturalists will get the speed growth bonus. Still, these can be exploited. Have the agriculturalists plant crops for the bonus, then everything can be processed for more money. This works even if you have separate wallets.

  • There is an exploit that can be done that allows you to complete certain bulletin board and qi’s quest without actually having to give the specified item. A quest such as the Robins hardwood quest on the bulletin board. If you place all the hardwood into the bin immediately after closing the menu you reopen it. The quest will be completed but you will be able to grab whatever items you put in back out. I believe this is multiplayer exclusive as there is a delay between the quest being completed after closing the menu.

  • I wish time would stop if all players were in a situation where time would normally stop in singleplayer. I get so frantic when playing together because normally I have time to think out my next steps in a menu, but now I gotta talk with my friends and also think about what I wanna do and it’s overwhelming.

  • 2 Mods i would love for multiplayer: One that reduces the rate at which time passes, since you can’t pause it with inventory open. And one so that you can eat food without the prompt, i lost count of how many times i died at the mine because i clicked on the food but wasn’t fast enough to press the yes button

  • Also, if you’re buying items with limited stock in a menu (at the traveling cart or the iridium sprinkler at krobus’s shop), as long as everyone has the shop open before anyone buys anything, each player can purchase the item. It still charges the price, but on a single friday four players could walk away with four iridium sprinklers.

  • One thing I’ve been curious about with multiplayer is how to handle Perfection. The biggest thing that I don’t think the wiki makes clear is how to handle Stardrops. The for instance in our group is that we have the player who enjoys fishing and has been handling catching all the fish, but he’s not really interested in marriage/roommate/etc, even just doing the wedding ring for the sake of getting the stardrop. It’s for reasons, it’s fine, but does that mean that we’re out of luck in terms of hitting the Stardrop goal unless another one of us also gets Master Angler and married? I know that the other Stardrops are fine, it’s just those two in particular.

  • Does anyone know if you create a farmhand via local play, can that existing farmhand be chosen via multiplayer on a different switch? My girlfriend is thinking of buying a switch and would love for her to be able to choose her already existing character when she gets online to play. Thanks for any info on this!

  • So as a so and so who has never played stardew hidden ranch valley, and my friend has, can we just co op together? Should I play on my own? Do we share? Is it separate. Sorry I’m writing this after pausing the article at 2 seconds. Its like I really want to play ff6/3 on snes level of co op but story rpg. Or secret of mana. Oh yeah that hilarious intro is hey i do have one friend who is willing to play some games with me, only system in common switch. Cool co op games but mostly local. I got up in animal crossing newton fig leaf and was kinda meh after a while, I always mean to go back and clean up and maintain but its like multiplayer wise snoozeville

  • There are a few things that make multiplayer super frustrating to me, mostly the lack of time pausing. There are things that make up for it, if you can get everyone playing on the same page, like planting and watering a massive farm. Sometimes, the goofy interactions I have with my friends is more fun than actually getting things done, but overall, I prefer single player.

  • You forgot a few things. First, all farmhands lack the knockback that the host has. You will notice a significant difference. Second, unless the host raids the coal carts/backpacks in the mines, the farmhands can raid them again and again and again…..we did this a lot and it never fails. Well, until the host gets the coal. Same with crates in the mines that appear in bunches. In some levels there are a dozen or more crates and barrels for you to destroy and loot – if the host does not destroy them, they will spawn again. This is of course only for the regulat mine, since the Skull Caverns are randomly generated.

  • one difference you never mentioned is that the farmhands are forced to use the additional cabins, and not the main farmhouse. the way farmhands claim a cabin is by collecting the parsnip seeds inside. if a farmhand who already has ownership over a cabin or the host attempt to take someone elses parsnip seeds, it will not work, simply giving the message “these arent meant for you” also, you cant remove or change furniture in someone elses house, but you can place stuff down. if you have an expensive piece of furniture or place an item on someone elses table, its theirs now. sorry.

  • I wish I could afford To purchase Stardew valley on stream pc, 😢 it is not really not that fun to play on mobile specially pirated ones. I would like to purchase mobile version however u can’t play multiplayer for it. Since multiplayer is only available in pc and u need to mod mobile SDV to play multiplayer. I wonder what it feels to play multiplayer SDV in PC version🥺
