Marriage information can establish religious and congregation affiliation, as well as other details such as age and place of birth, occupation, residences, and parents names. Divorce records include similar details, as well as date of divorce, children’s names, reasons for dissolution, and more.
To add a divorced couple to your tree, click on the member of the divorced couple who is already in your tree. Click on the tools button, select “Add relative” and choose “Spouse.”

How do you tell your family you’re getting married?
Tell me your reasons and plans in person. Your wedding day is your day, but for those close to you, it’s best to explain your decision. Showing respect, love, and care for them is a great way to show you care about their feelings. The most important thing is to go into the conversation without being defensive. Be ready to listen and be empathetic. Have your reasons ready to explain. Things like: We want a day that feels true to us. A big wedding doesn’t feel right. Experiences are more important to us than spending money on food. We decided to get married just the two of us. Saving money for our future feels more right to us than having a big wedding. The outdoors is important to us. We want to be in the mountains when we say our vows. We can’t do that with 150 people at a venue. Use the term “small wedding” instead of “elopement.” Your family thinks an elopement is a small wedding. You can say you’re having a small wedding with just 10 people. Or we’re getting married just the two of us. This is easier for them to understand.
