Unfair indeed! But I’m happy for you, I wish I could simply buy a passport there. Every time I think I finally found a way to legally live there with the freedom of flying home every so often, I find out that the process changed or the amount increased ridiculously for an investment among many other issues… but I’ll keep trying! I lived for eight years in China, and seven of those years were after I had received a BA in Chinese (and now likely going to Colombia): yes, YOU DID do much more than a master’s degree by living in Colombia for eight years. Let’s say 5 years is equivalent to a PhD in “Colombian Studies” plus an original BA and MA in Spanish. That’s what your 8 years did in terms of real knowledge and skills.

I am glad that you’ve realized that your success in South America is due to the fact that YOU ARE WHITE and somewhat handsome! I can assure you that if you were of dark skin from a different race you would’ve never had the same impact. I grew up in Colombia and experienced how much well received were the Peace Corps members that were WHITE than the ones who where black. In fact, the African Americans struggled to get into people’s houses and be trusted. So, be a Colombian Gringo and enjoy it as much as you can. Like you, there are many other Utubers from a European background “haciendo su agosto” (taking advantage) en Latin America just because we were taught that white people were better than the mix blood our ancestry gave us. Be careful, though, you don’t want to be looked as a CIA spy.
