How To Make A Cake Sparkle?

This week’s video tutorial focuses on adding shimmer or sparkle to cakes. It covers three different effects to make cakes shine: adding lustre dust, making them look like they are covered in beautiful sparkly sequins, and using edible glitter. The tutorial uses ingredients such as Angle Food Cake, 15 whole egg whites, 1 tsp. cream of tartar, 1 1/2 c. plus 2 tablespoons sugar, 1 c. cake flour, 1/4 tsp. salt, and 1 tsp. vanilla.

In honor of My Little Pony the Movie, the tutorial also shows how to make edible glitter by mixing 2 teaspoons of gold shine with 2 teaspoons of water and letting it hydrate. The gold mixture is then added to gelatin and spread onto plastic wrap. Three squares of real metallic gold leaf are then added to the surface of the gelatin and let it dry overnight.

To make edible glitter, preheat the oven to 170°C/Gas Mark 3, line a round baking tin with parchment paper, and sieve together flour, cornflour, salt, and eggs. In a large bowl, add 1 egg and 5 egg yolks, sugar, and vanilla. Use Wilton edible silver glitter spray for a glittery finish.

In conclusion, this video tutorial provides a step-by-step guide on how to add shimmer or sparkle to cakes.

  • For those here; OHP are thin sheets of plastic, think similarly to shrink plastic/shrinky dinks! You can use cling wrap around a cutting board or a metal cookie sheet if that’s easier and/or more accessible!! Also, if you want to be sure there’s no lumps in the cornstarch, be sure mix the cornstarch and water in a cup before putting it in the pan Best of luck with making y’all’s edible glitter!! Side note; if you’re worried on flavoring, there’s flavored food coloring on Amazon and in most Walmarts! Edit; Fixed some grammar, apologies 😅
