Celebrity makeup artist Amber Dreadon advises brides to tailor their foundation selection to the elements they will be in for their wedding. For winter, choose a foundation that won’t look too dry or flat, while for summer, choose lightweight, hydrating foundation. Regular skin care is the first step towards an optimal makeup moment, and there are twelve steps to set up for a perfect wedding makeup look. To apply wedding makeup, start by applying moisturizer and primer, followed by thin layers of natural-looking foundation. Natural wedding makeup is perfect for enhancing features while keeping the look fresh and effortless. A light-coverage foundation or BB cream is used to even out skin tone, followed by a hint of blush and a subtle highlighter for a natural glow. Airbrush makeup tends to be very thin, so it can pass through the airbrush gun and spray out in fine particles. To ensure a smooth wedding planning process, stay in communication with your wedding pros and have a clear idea of what you want.

Should a bride do her own makeup?
These are the exceptions. If you’re not confident, don’t mind doing it alone, and have a place to concentrate, don’t do it yourself. Use a great makeup artist and look your best on your wedding day. But no one knows how I like my makeup. What if I don’t like the makeup artist’s work? This is where the trial comes in. Meet your MUA. Discuss your desired look and then have them show you how they’ll achieve it. Tell them what you like and don’t like. A good MUA will help you look your best. Once your trial is done, your MUA will write down what they did and what you want. On the day, they’ll make you look exactly how you want. A great MUA will make you look stunning. If you don’t like your makeup, tell your MUA. A good one will give you great advice and make it happen.
I have makeup that works for me. I have sensitive skin. The wrong makeup makes me look horrible. – I don’t like wearing a lot of makeup. The MUA is invaluable here. Your choice can make our job easier or harder. Wrong makeup causes problems. Your makeup needs to look great in photos. Makeup flaws show up in photos. Then your photographer will fix it when editing the photos. Your friends and family can’t do that with their photos. The worst case is flashback. This is a nightmare for photographers.

Do brides look better with hair up or down?
Consider your wedding dress neckline. Your wedding dress’s neckline affects whether your hair should be up or down. If you’re wearing a strapless dress, hair down or half up, half down will look pretty and show off the neckline, says Mar. Waves and a soft style are key. If your dress has a high neckline, wear your hair up. With high necklines, hair looks best tousled. You don’t have to wear a traditional updo, but hair swept away from your neckline will look best. Earrings are a good choice for a high neckline because a necklace would get in the way. Think about your usual hairstyle. How do you usually wear your hair? If you usually wear your hair in a high ponytail, you might want to do that on your wedding day, just with a wedding-ready twist. Ask your hairstylist about adding an accessory, more volume, or a curl. If you want something special, consider a hairstyle you’d only wear for a special occasion. Think about how your hair usually responds to styling. If your hair is straight and fine, even a professional will have trouble making it curl on your wedding day.

Choose something that will photograph well. A wrinkled shirt, robe, or button-down will look wrinkled in the photos. You can choose a color palette like a bride or your own colors. What order should bride get makeup done?
Brides should have their hair and makeup done in the middle of their appointments, not at the start or end. I was nervous to say it, but it’s out there! What’s the middle of the hair and makeup appointment block? That depends on how many bridesmaids are in the party. For example: If you have five people getting their hair and makeup done, I recommend having the bride be the third or fourth. She shouldn’t go first, but I don’t think it’s best to have her styled last. Now, let’s bust some more myths and explain why I recommend having the bride’s styling done during the middle of the hair and makeup time block. Think about it: how often do you ask someone to take your photo in the morning? It’s not often, right? If I start taking photos of a bride as soon as she sits in her chair for makeup and hair, she probably won’t like the photos as much or feel comfortable in front of the camera. Right before hair and makeup, I’ll take a few photos of the bride’s last touches. (Like lipstick, highlighter, hairspray, or pinning a hairpiece). If the bride is done by the time I arrive, I’ll start wrapping up. If she’s already done, it’s no problem. The stylists will do one last touch-up before they leave, and I’ll photograph it. Her hair and makeup are done, she’s awake, and she’s starting to look and feel like a bride. She’ll feel more comfortable being photographed.
Does the bride go last for makeup?
Here are a few tips for the morning of a wedding. Organize the morning. Choose wisely who goes first in your bridal party. If you get the organized bridesmaid to go first, they usually keep the schedule. Also, consider your mom’s preference. She might want her makeup done earlier to help out on the wedding morning. Sometimes no one wants to be the first appointment because they worry their makeup won’t last all day. I tell my clients that makeup will last and they only need a touch-up of lipstick. If someone has oily skin, a little powder may be applied. I like to do the makeup after the hairstylist so they don’t get hairspray on their faces. This is what I like, but it doesn’t always happen. The order depends on the bridal style. If the hairstylist has face-framing pieces, these could get in the way of the makeup, so the makeup should be done first. Never leave the bride until last. The hairstylist can set your hair early, but your makeup should never be left until last. You want it fresh, but there’s always a rush at the end. The last thing the bride should be rushed is her makeup. The bride should have her makeup done in the middle and her hair finished last. If your makeup is done in an hour or two, your makeup artist can check it before you leave. She’ll check for shiny areas and smudged mascara.

How to make up a bride for a wedding?
Step 3: Foundation. Next, we move on to the foundation. For a natural-looking glow, use Armani Luminous Silk foundation. It gives a lovely matte finish that looks great on camera. For full coverage with a radiant look, use Glow Wish by Huda Beauty. Apply foundation gradually, starting with a thin layer and building up with a brush. Don’t use too much product or you’ll look cakey.
Step 4 – Concealer & Eye Primer: I use Nars creamy radiance for concealer. I apply it to the inner and outer corners of my eyes first, then blend it into the middle. I use my finger to pat the product in and up towards my hairline. I’ll then apply concealer to any other areas. Spots and red areas around the nose and mouth. I also put a little concealer on my eyelids to make my eyeshadow look smooth.
Step 5 – Contouring: I do contouring with most brides. It makes your face look more defined and chiseled. My go-to contour brush is the Charlotte Tilbury contour wand. It’s easy to blend and looks natural when applied correctly. I always test the product on my hand to see how much I need. I then use a large brush to blend the product on my hand. Less is more. Start by applying the contour to your cheekbones. To find your cheek hollows, suck in your cheeks and feel where your cheekbone ends. Apply your contour there. I’ll then work the product around the temples and jawline.
