She adds, “This way, the makeup artist can blend the makeup into the hairline and around the jaw area without messing up the hairstylist’s work.” The best makeup starts with a well-blended foundation. It should look seamless. A look that is best achieved when the makeup is applied first. Can you get your makeup and hair done at the same time? Most hair and makeup artists prefer to work on your bridal look separately. It’s more stressful for the bride to have two people working at once. It also takes longer because the artists are waiting on each other. Even the best makeup artist can’t do a perfect winged liner while you’re getting a blowout. “The way a client’s head is positioned affects how an artist can apply makeup or style hair,” says Voight. “So, changing angles to meet the needs of hair and makeup can make it hard for both artists to make you look your best on your special day.”

What order should bride get makeup done?
Brides should have their hair and makeup done in the middle of their appointments, not at the start or end. I was nervous to say it, but it’s out there! What’s the middle of the hair and makeup appointment block? That depends on how many bridesmaids are in the party. For example: If you have five people getting their hair and makeup done, I recommend having the bride be the third or fourth. She shouldn’t go first, but I don’t think it’s best to have her styled last. Now, let’s bust some more myths and explain why I recommend having the bride’s styling done during the middle of the hair and makeup time block. Think about it: how often do you ask someone to take your photo in the morning? It’s not often, right? If I start taking photos of a bride as soon as she sits in her chair for makeup and hair, she probably won’t like the photos as much or feel comfortable in front of the camera. Right before hair and makeup, I’ll take a few photos of the bride’s last touches. (Like lipstick, highlighter, hairspray, or pinning a hairpiece). If the bride is done by the time I arrive, I’ll start wrapping up. If she’s already done, it’s no problem. The stylists will do one last touch-up before they leave, and I’ll photograph it. Her hair and makeup are done, she’s awake, and she’s starting to look and feel like a bride. She’ll feel more comfortable being photographed.
