To prepare your skin for your wedding makeup, start by cleansing your face and neck before applying makeup. A clean canvas will make your makeup look smoother and last longer. A well-moisturized, cared-for foot is less likely to blister in uncomfortable shoes.
A good skincare routine is key to optimizing the results of professional treatment. If you have enough lead time, it’s ideal to try new products. A diet filled with Vitamin B helps bring out your hair’s natural shine. On the outside, an invigorating scalp massage and deep conditioning treatment about 4 weeks prior to the event will not only feel good but also help prevent blisters.
Repeat your skincare regimen every night and every morning to yield maximum results. On the day of your makeup trial and wedding day, wash your face, tone your skin, skip the serum, and moisturize. For summer weddings, opt for heat-proof makeup looks that can withstand humidity and sweat.
Skin prep differs based on your skin type and the products you’ve been using consistently with your skincare routine. The first recommendation is to do your skin prep (cleanse face, serum, moisturizer) right before you do your makeup. From a lifestyle perspective, to improve the appearance and health of your skin, aim to get eight hours of sleep, eat earlier than later, increase your water intake, exercise, and decrease your intake of refined sugars and processed foods.
In summary, preparing your skin for your wedding makeup involves a combination of cleansing, hydration, and a good skincare routine. By following these tips, you can achieve a flawless makeup look on your big day.

I stumbled upon your article- I don’t use makeup, have no clue— however, what made me watch to the end is your approach to you your audience. My goodness, you my friend come across so genuine and just so so pleasant and friendly.. After seeing so many people acting on camera or seem way over the top effected. I can see why you are successful. You are living your truth. Congrats to you
Mature beauty here. I often use primer over my makeup, just gently pushing it in after possibly using it after my serums, then priming, applying tinted sunscreen or fdtn, then I prime again. It really works to soften the fine lines I have at age 73. You look great as always, love your hair in this one. Thx Spencer, stay blessed.
I am in love with your articles! You are so down to earth and you really go out of your way to teach professional techniques. Since I’ve been perusal and following, I’ve really seen tremendous improvement in my makeup routine. And that D’Alba spray is crazy amazing! I tried it not expecting it to be as great as you claimed, but OMG that stuff is amazing and the smell is so refreshingly soft! Love your work!!!!
I purchased the Dalba mist on your recommendation months ago. I am asked everyday about my skin. I am 64 years old and I get compliments all the time. I tell them about your website and D’alba mist. I love it!! I truly is a game changer. I love your website and appreciate all your work on your content. Thank you.

I really enjoy ya articles ! Ya skin is so amazing & ya skills are truly top tier I will forever remind you of that lol, shoutouts to my professor cause she put me on to your articles & I have never stopped perusal. I see why she loves you so much. I’ll be making 2 yrs as an esthetician & your articles help me so much I think I’m ready to start taking on outsiders for makeup. For years I only do my family makeup.. it’s time to branch out.
Thanks for sharing. I can’t go to my go too because they stop making it. Extra emollient cleansing cream. Mary kay had it. I loved up. I can’t find anything that compares to it. It melts into a oil and cleanses the face well. I’ve been perusal you and your skin looks great. Love your articles ❤❤❤❤👏👏👏👏
I love Garnier’s SkinActive Micellar Cleansing Water to remove makeup, or to begin the day. I used to only use the sensitive version (pink bottle) but now love the brightening version with vitamin C (yellow bottle). I think the vet Amin C version helps with redness, too. I’m going to try your d’Alba recommendation. d’Alba has 4 versions of the spray, so I will go with the sensitive skin version first. Fingers crossed. Thank you for another sweet article!
Im so happy someone included eye drops in a makeup article. I use eye drops before every single makeup application. My eyes get so red & watery the second I start doing my makeup. I look like I smoked 15 blunts lol. Eye drops are everything to me. I use good ol visine though. They make my eyes extremely white. I may try this kind out.
I don’t have the d’Alba serum spray but I do have the Fresh Rose and Squalane Oil Infused Serum and I love it. At first I didn’t know where in my skin-care to use it because it contains that dual layer but lately I’ve been using it between my serum and my moisturizer and my skin drinks it up. I should probably decant a little and put it in a small spray bottle to freshen my makeup. I’ve never thought to use it like that. Thanks for the tips!! 🙂
I am learning so much from your articles and tried the d’Alba serum spray and LOVING it! Amazing on skin. I’m trying the double layer serum you recommended and also obsessed! Thanks for your wonderful website and I’m always looking your new articles ! Your skin is amazing, do you use tretinoin? I’d love to hear your opinion on using then along with 😮tips
Update: I received my very first bottle of the “d’Alba, First Spray Serum” and ironically I had just taken a shower and it was to warm so to cool me off I walked down to my mailbox a half a block down and there it was so soon as I got back I used this after my serums and moisturizers like it said and Oh boy howdy! It was absolutely worth the wait it just sealed in my skincare and gave me that extra oomph and what a lovely light scent it’s definitely a permanent staple in my routine I’m going to order another one to keep in my bag for work for that quick pick me up 🤩🥰
I really love this more natural look on you Spencer. The less full lips and cheeks is just a much better look. It goes with your aesthetic. It allows your voice to really come through. Sometimes when your lips were fuller, it sounded like you were struggling to get the sounds out. Anyway, great article showing how to prep for makeup. We can all use the information.
I have pretty dry skin in the winter so after I do my skincare I will put a thin layer of the Eucerin Healing cream all over my face before makeup. I find that it doesn’t break down my makeup at all if anything my makeup sits better over top of it if I had just used a regular moisturizer or primer. Definitely does not work for me in the summer though.
I live in Denver,CO. and it’s SOOO DRY HERE!! All of my friends and family laugh at me because I have humidifiers in the bedroom, family room, everywhere. If my skin is so dry, I have a secret, I will steam my face and then put on Crisco. Its an old Southern secret. Im a grandmother and I still (sometimes) get carded at the liquor store. Thank so much for doing this article on prep!! I think you are an amazing human being and artist ❤❤❤
Thanks for sharing what makes your skin glow and for the coupon code for the Elemis 😳. I noticed it has one with marine collagen in it and I’ve read about the benefits, have you ever tried this one? Im almost 63 and if I can get anything to work for it then I’ll get it. Just don’t tell my husband 🤭. I have to add that you are such a kind sweetheart. ❤
Great tutorial, I have followed you for some time. I’m unable to find the D’alba Aromatic version. I have the other recommended D’alba product which is amazing. I’m wondering what the difference is. I have very sensitive/eczema skin so have to be really careful. Also a recommendation, I use Lash UK eyelash serum, this product is AMAZING. I have never had lashes but after a couple of uses they started to grow. You have to use every day/evening so you have to invest your time but WOW. Thanks for your sage advice. Zoe (London, UK)
You are just ‘other worldly’ stunning. What skin!! How do you keep your hands so beautiful? Is there foundation? Also, can I request a article on all powder products—especially powder foundation? (I use MAC Studio Fix powder foundation) I just refuse to waste my money on liquid products..they never ever work for me —ever! (The $ I’ve spent! Omg… never again!) Please see if you can show a article with powders for us! We are an ignored demographic!! 😱😩🙏 Thanks… your articles are priceless
I am new here. I appreciate your informative article. I am probably different than most on here. I am in my 50s. I have OILY skin, some acne and dry under eyes bc of eye drop use over the years (due to dry eye/contacts). Would the items you listed make my skin more oily? I have only found ONE skincare ‘system’ that helped, Riversol, but was out of my price range (on SSI). Also notice you did not mention eye cream (something we aging individuals use) you are not in that bracket. I quit wearing makeup bc I felt overwhelmed w skin issues and problems it created when adding makeup over. I looked thru your articles quickly and noticed you did makeup for I think your mom but did not see a skincare article for older individuals. If you did one could you please direct me? If not, please consider doing one. If anyone else has recommendations for my issues, please share. I am tired of spending $$$ I don’t have, buying products that dont help. Thx.
So, do you use any skin care products, such as vitamin C serum, any piptide serums, anything like that? I am not sure what to put on under my make up any more because it seems that the make up just breaks up during the course of the day and I wonder if I have too much “stuff” on underneath? I have started to use a primer, and I am trying different types. I do need something to help minimize my pores and, since I’m 60, my fine lines. Do you think less is more when prepping for make up?
Spencer I need your advice 😢. I have dry skin and whenever I wear makeup, later on during the day, under my eyes the concealor separates. I have tried everything so far, like using a different setting powder,a new primer, a new moisturiser etc. I don’t bake I just set my under eyes using the Charlotte tilbury setting powder(my go to one). I don’t know what to do . Please help your gurl out 😩🫶🏽
Okay, but what about eye shadow primers? I thought high end shadows would crease less, nope. Mac, Kat von D, Viseart crease even more/faster on me. They’re “silky” so maybe their formulation contains more oils, hence more creasing. I’ve tried so many eye primers and my shadows crease within 1-2 hours after initial application 😪😭😭 S.O.S. S.O.S. S.O.S. S.O.S. S.O.S. S.O.S. S.O.S. S.O.S.
The problem is, for someone who has no clue about makeup, me for example, all make up bloggers have hundreds of articles, each one, saying this is my “base make up routine” or your “go to” / “ultimate” make up. And then you have a thousand articles each one using different techniques, different products. So in the end, I’ve still no clue what to use 🙁 you are very talented at make up, I’m just frustrated becuase ive watched quite a few articles over the last few days, adn I feel even more at a loss, at what products and techniques work well, over other products and techniques. great article though
