Neil, I’m blinded by the brilliance of simply labeling my CONCLUSION. You outed me, I always scroll to the conclusion before deciding to commit to reading the whole post. It never occurred to me that I’m not the only one doing that. So, just like making site navigation easy so visitors can find what they’re interested in quickly—make the content structure work to induce a reader by highlighting the content’s value in my conclusion and letting their FOMO propel them back into the rest of the post. I’ve also found that writing a solid conclusion automatically points out any weak areas of a post. Thanks Neil!

Hi Neil. These tips are great. They make for a fantastic checklist before actually publishing. With that said, I would not necessarily follow them in the order you presented them. I usually start with a working title. Tip 1: I don’t do a deep dive for a title until after the content is near final form. Tips 2 & 5: I write my introduction and conclusion after my first draft of the content. As an instructional writer, I use the formula “tell them what you’re going to tell them; tell them; tell them what you told them.” Once I know what I am going to “tell them,” I write the intro (what I’m going to tell them) and conclusion (what I told them.) Some people are awesome at this, and I’m learning. People will literally repin your content multiple times to their boards, if it looks different and has an alternative title – and you get more keywords associated with the post. Hey Neil! Thank you for the great content! The comments section itself answered many of my questions but here’s one that hasn’t been brought up. When I do a keyword searches on a blog idea, I noticed that the content in the first 5-10 searches are mostly repetitive and nothing new is being offered. It then becomes a competition of who can come up with the most catchy headlines. I feel conflicted because I do not want to add another pieces of content if I have nothing new/fresh to offer and waste people’s browsing time. Often when I have something fresh to share, I struggle to hit even 1,200 words (I see you recommending 1,500 – 2,500 words). 1) What are your thoughts about writing repetitive content with nothing new being offered? 2) What are your thoughts on people copying your tips and content and passing it off as their own without giving you credit?

I tend to follow the Andrew Lloyd Webber philosophy: stay away from too much outside influence (I mean, you have to outside influence to learn to write, or compose, but there comes a point when you can turn away from the outside influence and get some inside influence), and if you 100% express your own individuality and your own message (or a higher message), or your own music, it’s guaranteed to be unique. Taking this path means doing research of a different kind, though — truly discovering what it is you’re meant to do.

Which reminds me that I came across a blog template for WordPress that’s designed to split even a short blog (say, 500 words) into several pages with a continue reading link at the bottom of all but the last page.
