Should I Get Fire Emblem Engage?

Fire Emblem Engage is a new entry in the Fire Emblem series, offering a strong tactics experience with smart, mobile-adjacent hooks. The story is less engrossing than some recent installments, and side activities can get tedious. However, memorable characters and colorful art direction make for another easy victory in the long line of them.

Fire Emblem Engage celebrates its long history of compelling characters without making players feel left out. It has a lot to do, and as more things unlock, it can be surprisingly easy to forget the basics. One of the first activities you unlock is the humble Skirmish. Promotion bonuses are constant, and internal level is just the promotion level.

In Fire Emblem Engage, you can purchase Master Seals for 2,500 Gold at the Item Shop in the Somniel or receive them for clearing certain chapters in the story. Bond fragments are a resource that can be used to create bond rings, engrave weapons, and increase the bond.

Gameplay is mostly good in Engage, with its usually smaller map design being a little better than Three Houses maps. However, the writing is at a series-wide low, so don’t go in expecting much. Engage proves itself worthy enough to be counted alongside the legacy it honors so well.

In conclusion, Fire Emblem Engage delivers fan-service and new ideas in equal measure, creating a game well worth your time even if you’re not a Fire Emblem fan.

Can I romance in Fire Emblem Engage?

You can’t romance a companion until later in the game. The event happens in a side story that starts after the plot twist where Alear becomes an Emblem. Some paralogues require you to fight your Emblems to unlock their max bond level. You don’t fight Alear, but you can give the pact ring to any companion with an “A” rank to romance them. It’s not just romance. Alear can bond with characters regardless of gender. Some of these bonds will be romantic, while others will be platonic. A male Alear can bond with Vander, but since he’s one of the platonic options, you’ll have to rely on your own ideas to do the romantic heavy lifting. I romanced the dancer Seadall because he was the cutest person I had the highest rank with. When you give the ring to your chosen, they’ll leave you a memento on the desk in Alears chambers. I got a scarf. Seadall likes scarves.

Can you fall in love in Fire Emblem Engage?

How does romance work in Fire Emblem Engage? In Fire Emblem Engage, you can make one other character your S-rank ally. Choose carefully before giving them the Pact Ring. The new game lets you partner up with anyone, regardless of gender. Once you reach S-rank, your character and ally will announce their love in a special cut scene. After this, you’ll find a page in the Ally Notebook about your life with your S-rank ally.

Is Engage a good game?

Engage is the perfect way to start the series and bring back good memories for those who already know it. A game with periods of action and quiet times to chat with other characters, play minigames, and try new weapons. Fire Emblem Engage is amazing and a great way for Nintendo to start 2023. The combat system in Fire Emblem Engage is smooth and exciting. The campaign isn’t all twists, and the socialization at all costs could make the most surly digital generals nervous, but Fire Emblem Engage is a recommended chapter.

One of the best Fire Emblem games ever! Three Houses was awful, but this is way better!

Is 3 houses better than Engage?

Thanks. Engage has better gameplay but less customization and isn’t as replayable. Formerly known as maro_man. Three Houses has a better story, more interesting characters, and several ways to play/replay, while Engage has better gameplay/combat and prettier visuals. Is Engage or Three Houses longer?

If you add Monastery time and recruit everyone in Three Houses, Three Houses is probably longer. I like Engage more than Three Houses, but that’s just me.

Can you marry characters in Fire Emblem Engage?

The game is still about the characters, with each one having their own story. The stories between the main character and their followers are mostly romantic. The game features a marriage with the pact ring system. Once a player has units at A-rank, they can use a pact ring to make a unit S-rank. They can only do this once, and the cutscene shows it as an engagement. Fire Emblem Engage doesn’t limit pact rings by gender. All characters react the same to the proposal, regardless of the player’s gender. It depends on what the player wants. They won’t get the same mechanics from marriage, but they’ll still get character connections and chances for shipping.

Is Fire Emblem Engage good for newcomers?

Fire Emblem Engage is a great game for newcomers to the series. Here are a few tips to help you along. Longtime fans will enjoy Engage more than new ones because it references past games. The game’s simplicity helps new players understand the series. Some games are hard to find, but new players might want to try the games where the Emblems came from. Games like Sacred Stones and The Blazing Blade should be bought from the Nintendo eShop before it closes on the Wii U in March. Fire Emblem can be hard to get into, but there are ways to make it easier. Fire Emblem Engage has three difficulty modes and two types of gameplay. Casual Mode is for beginners. It lets players keep any character that is slain in combat. In Classic Mode, characters die permanently.

Should I play male or female in Fire Emblem Engage?

Should you be a boy or a girl in Fire Emblem Engage? There are no major differences in Fire Emblem Engage if you choose one gender over the other. Fire Emblem Engage is the latest in Nintendo’s series of turn-based tactical strategy games. In Engage, you can play as a male or female. The series doesn’t offer as much customization as other games, but having two genders is better than one. When you start Fire Emblem Engage for the first time, you’ll see a screen with male and female options for the main character. Players must choose one form to continue. Which should they choose? There are no major differences in Fire Emblem Engage if you choose one gender over the other. The dialogue is the same, and you can talk to all characters (male or female) and use the same moves. Players might need to think about the voice acting. The male and female protagonists have male and female voice actors. Some lines might be performed differently, but the visual appearance of both heroes should be the same.

Is it worth to buy Fire Emblem Engage?

Jerel Levy is worth an engagement. Three Houses made Fire Emblem more popular, but Engage shows it’s okay to try new things. Fire Emblem Engage’s gameplay is great, and the combat is gorgeous on handheld and on TV. The Engage mechanic makes battles more exciting, along with the new Break mechanic. If you played Three Houses, there will be too many characters, fewer interesting relationships, and a clear story with no moral ambiguity. Fire Emblem Engage is worth the price. It improves on its predecessors.

Strategically Sound, Narratively Inferior – Seth Parmer. Seth ParmerFire Emblem Engage’s combat is better than in Three Houses. Each encounter is challenging and rewarding. The story is not as good as in previous games, but you still care about the characters and world. Fire Emblem Engage is a great strategy JRPG. The story doesn’t reach the same heights as Three Houses.

A Must-Have for Fans – Ryan Bamsey. Fire Emblem Engage has the most engaging combat the series has ever seen, with lots of different maps, enemies, and strategies. The plot is weighed down by anime tropes and fanservice. It’s a solid game, but the writing is poor. Don’t expect much in that department.

  • Yep I pretty much agree. It’s nice to hear a different take since a lot of people seem to really love this one, which is good for them! But it feels kinda middling for me personally. I really like the characterisation in three houses a lot more. The voice actors have really knocked it out of the park in this entry though! As for my favourite character it changes a lot, but as of right now it’s gotta be Dimitri. The rollercoaster of emotions I had while playing Blue Lion route for the first time was pretty crazy. With close second being Yuri. I wish there was more Ashen Wolves development as I love the characters introduced there.

  • henry, lucina and gaius- awakening leo only really – fates mae, berkut,- echoes marianne, ashe, dimitri – fe3h kagestu, yunaka, rosado (might be subject to change bc im only on chapter 14)- engage There are some other fe games that I have played but didn’t spend a lot of time on, so i cant really include them.

  • Bernadetta is my favorite character. Love many of the small details about her you get throughout Three Houses. Also her big change in both how she acted and looked in part 2 was cool to see. The only other game I played is engage and let’s just say I don’t care much for those characters. Agree with most of what you said about Engage. Disagree about the music because I think it’s pretty solid, but outside of that it’s a pretty good article.

  • I am enjoying this game so far.:) I do miss some of the social stuff and world building lore from Three Houses/Hopes. My favorite characters in Fire Emblem series so far…. The older FE games/Heroes – Marth – Roy – Sigurd – Navarre – Geese – Lucius – Freyr – Askr Path of Radiance/Radiant Dawn – Ike – Soren – Reyson – Titania – Sephiran – Volke – Kyza – Sothe – Ranulf – Rafiel – Naesala – Tibarn – Nailah – Zihark Awakening – Chrom – Robin – Marth/Lucina – Yarne Fates – Male Corrin – Miles – Xander – Ryoma – Gunter – Dwyer – Forrest Three Houses/Hopes – Male Byleth – Claude – Dimitri – Lorenz – Ferdinand – Lindhardt – Petra – Sylvain – Hilda – Yuri – Balthus – Seteth – Flayn – Catherine – Shamir – Emile/Death Knight – Male Shez – Arval – Holst Engage – Male Alear – Fogado – Zelkov – Rosado – Kagetsu – Alcryst – Diamant – Seadall – Alfred

  • This is the only fire emblem game I regret buying. The characters are boring the story is boring. Been playing for over 10 years I loved the stretch of games from path to three houses. Even liked fates slightly more than 3 houses. This game has no replay value they took out new game plus from 3 houses to try to get you to buy the dlc just for extra story. The way you have to increase skill on weapons is trash you have to use the rings and even when you get the bond skill for a weapon still can’t use that weapon. This game is a huge step back and possibly my last of the franchise if they keep this system of play.

  • I loved this game but man it does not even hold a little flame to three houses. \r \r New game + not in Engage (Three Houses has a great NG+)\r Epic ending not not in Engage (Three houses had 4 Epic Endings + Warriors)\r Meaningful relationships not in Engage \r A Black Knight or Death Knight Enemy not in Engage\r A good main villain not in Engage\r A good way way to help lower lv units lv up faster not in Engage\r Gold very stingy in Engage\r No character development in Engage (In Three Houses Bernadetta starts out has a shy scared little girl and then at the end she is less shy and more bold.)\r No Choices in Engage\r \r What you know what Engage does have that will always make it great Louis and Rosado.

  • While I haven’t been able to play the game myself yet, Engage is…pretty much what I expected it to be. Fun, great gameplay but very meh story. I hope the next Fire Emblem game takes the complex story and characters from Three Houses and the fun gameplay from Engage. That would be an amazing game. As for favorite Fire Emblem characters, I have many XD. But some of my top ones are for sure: Sigurd (fe4), Seliph (fe4), Arvis (fe4), Ephraim (fe8), Lyon (fe8), Lucina (awakening), Nyx (fates), and most of the Three Houses cast.

  • If this game had 3 Houses level of gameplay/story with the current artwork, it would probably be a 9/10. As it stands though… it’s fun, but not as fun as 3 Houses was, nor are the characters as good. But perusal kid Anna absolutely bury an armored unit with a Hammer and screaming “NO WINDOW SHOPPERS!” got me laughing.

  • It really came down to my mentallity diving into the game that made me have a great experience with it. I for one love 3 Houses for it’s story, but if I went in hoping for a well design combat system and thought out map designs, I would’ve found the game extremely dissappointing, same goes for Engage, just in the opposite direction. I knew Engage would not shine at all in the story department or even characters to an extent when compared to 3 Houses, but it has to easily be one of the most well design FE games when it comes to gameplay. I have to kinda disagree with you on the music though, there are a few missess, I’ll admit, but the hits are HITS, like, Unshaken Royal Confidence just lives rent free on my head. There’s definetely overall better OSTs from other FE games, but this one doesn’t really fall behind.

  • Although I’m not too far yet, I do wish the god-elements had more mystery at the start. Start out with more mystery surrounding the divine dragon, the rings, and the antagonist. Don’t make the divine dragon our starting MC. Let the characters and the player learn about the greater conflict of the world gradually at the same time while dealing with more grounded conflicts. It wouldn’t be new to FE by any means, but I enjoy those stories more. This is too straightforward from the get-go for my taste.

  • Definitely one of my favorite Fire Emblem games by far. The strategy gameplay of Fire Emblem is what matters most to me, and I thought Three Houses was extremely lack luster in that department in my opinion. And I’ll be honest, I actually really enjoyed the characters and story of engage, I thought they were all pretty fun and cute in there own way.

  • I’m only 6 Chapters into Engage and I’ve honestly been having a hard time finding the urge to continue playing the game. The characters are boring in every way (design wise and personality wise), the story feels like your typical anime fetch quest and the Emblem mechanic honestly just doesn’t sit right with me. It feels like those Pokemon battle gimmicks where you use it turn one and you just auto win as you destroy every enemy and that’s not fun to me. Everyone’s telling me to tough it out and that it will get better in a few chapters, but… I don’t have much motivation to continue. Do I tough it out and continue playing? I want to like Engage so badly, but… I’m getting nothing from it so far.

  • It has Femboy Rosado in it 10/10. Hell Alear has a tiny bit more unique personality then most FE protagonists (still not as good as Ike and Shez my beloved mercenaries). Made me want to go back and bing the rest of FE. My favourite characters are probably; Marianne, Edelgard, Lucina, Ike, Soren, Shez, Hector, Lyon, Berkut, Bernadetta, Beruka and the new additions Alcryst, Alfred, & Rosado
