Should I Wear Red Lipstick For My Wedding?

On a wedding day, brides traditionally opt for a soft shade like a pinky nude or a sultry red lipstick to create a bold and confident look. Red lipstick is a form of self, and it is essential to choose the right color for your skin tone. To ensure long-lasting lipstick, it should be high quality and not transfer onto clothes.

Green eyes can be enhanced with the right makeup techniques and colors on the wedding day. Earthy tones like brown and beige can help bring out the natural green hues in your eyes, while shades of pink and purple can create a beautiful contrast. To apply red lipstick effectively, use a lip pencil like the Lip K-Brush, which provides greater control for applying lipstick evenly along the edges.

Guests can wear red lipstick to a wedding, but do not wear it if it will distract from the bride, clash with the color scheme of the wedding, or look out of place for the tone or venue of the wedding. Use a lip brush to apply the lipstick, starting at the center of your lips and working your way outwards. Don’t apply too much lipstick, as it can look heavy and cakey.

Red lips are a classic choice for gorgeous, timeless wedding makeup, but not all reds are created equally. Wearing red lipstick on your wedding day can be risky, but it is bold and brave, and it looks stunning in the pictures. The merits of wearing red lipstick on your wedding day include its longevity, ability to kiss or not to kiss, and the impact on your day.

What lipstick should I wear on my wedding day?

What to Look for in a Lip Stain. Color: A lip stain is the first color you wear on your lips, so choose it carefully. Most makeup artists recommend brides go with their signature shade or something darker than their natural lip color. If you are planning on taking black and white photos for the wedding, bridal makeup artist Michelle Schultz says it’s best to avoid wearing a dark shade since it can make your lips look black in photos. Unless that’s the look you want. Some lip stains are more matte, like Huda Beauty Creamy Lip and Cheek Tint. Matte lip colors last longer, says Schultz. For a long-lasting shade, try a matte stain like Etude Dear Darling Water Tint. If you’re worried about a lip stain drying out your lips, look for formulas with hydrating ingredients. Charlotte Tilbury Tinted Love Lip and Cheek Stain left our lips hydrated thanks to nourishing ingredients. What’s the difference between a lip stain and lipstick? Lip stains are light, long-lasting, and highly pigmented. Lipsticks are waxy and create a coat of color on your lips. Lip stains don’t fade or rub off as easily as lipstick. If you want a shiny lip, Schultz suggests a long-wear satin lipstick.

How do I know if red lipstick will suit me?

If you have cooler undertones, choose a cool blue-toned red. Clinique Pop™ Longwear Lipstick in Flame Pop. This is an orangey red, but will look great on warmer skin tones. Hernandez says the fiery look often gets people in the mood because it’s been linked to good health for centuries. Red cheeks and lips meant a good prospect in ancient times. Back then, the Bésame Cosmetics founder said, red meant youthfulness, which was always more desirable since people did not live long.

Her skin was kept light, and her natural glow was allowed to shine through. A little contour was used to define her bone structure and eyes, and bronzy tones were added. We left her lips neutral, using a taupe-based nude to line them and a peachy lip gloss to add moisture and shine. Bedrossian didn’t say which products she used, but we suggest Gucci Long Lasting Bold Lip Liner in Nude and Rhode Peptide Lip Treatment to recreate Bieber’s smile.

  • When I was younger I used to hate red lips because I thought it was too bright and I don’t like to call attention to myself, I didn’t even give it a try and I only wore light pink lipstick. But one day I saw myself in the mirror and I looked so pale, it made me appear sick (like Gwen Stefani in the article). I really hated the way I looked so I bought my first red lipstick and I was really surprised by the change. My face lit up, I no longer look like a zombie😅

  • I find it comes down to personality and mood. Red in the colour spectrum is one of the most energetic. If you’re not used to wearing red, or bright warm colours, and you’re usually on the quiet, lowkey side, or just not into being center of attention, red can be uncomfortable to wear and feel out of balance, or just not fit to your personality. I think that’s the best explanation. Red is the most historically common go-to colours for lipstick. People have made it work for them with different makeup techniques that went with the style. You can try out different ways of applying it, different ways of shaping your mouth. One thing is for sure, you need to precisely line your lips so the lipstick doesn’t smudge over the lip line and doesn’t bleed into the tiny creases around your mouth.

  • I have very soft features, light skin, low contrast. All the consultants in the cosmetic shops want me to wear salmon-nude. I remember one time i came to one of those shops without makeup, and i wanted to buy the dark red lipstick (i was REbyuing the shade i knew). The look on their faces was skeptical. And then i applied a bit of bronzer and that lipstick in that same hop and they looked kinda stunned because i looked a lot different and a lot better. I can’t explain it or understand why, but dark lips look really good on me

  • I prefer to wear a more muted shade of red lipstick (brownish-red, terracotta, brick-red, etc). I have Mac’s Ruby Woo, which I rarely wear. But I prefer to apply Ruby Woo very lightly, so that it looks more like a stain instead of an intense red. I feel that red lipstick can be tricky to pull off because it draws attention to your face and can highlight things such as facial hair…..a double chin……scars/acne….as well as your teeth. It can also draw attention to other areas of your face such as dark circles if they’re not well-concealed. Red lipstick looks better when the rest of your makeup is minimal. I don’t think it looks good when women wear a bold red lip that is also competing with bold eyeshadow and too much contouring and bronzer and blinding highlighter and tarantula eyelashes.

  • Thank you for validating my thin lipped, strong jawed, soft summer ass! XD Since everyone seemed to claim all women look good in red lipstick, you just need to find the right shade, I tried a number of cool reds and strong pinks and they all looked way off. I’ll be sticking to all shades of dusty rose thank you XD

  • Now I know why I look so good with red lipstick! Lipstick is the ONLY makeup I wear (aside from brow pencil on special occasions). I have a very defined Cupid’s bow with a really short philtrum(?). But I’ve never tried to overdraw them! I’m gonna do some research! Thanks for this awesome vid! The ONLY makeup vid I could actually learn from!

  • Very interested in the eye part. I wear red lips well for several of the reasons you named. Also I have been analysed as a (HOC) spring (always thought I was a summer because of my seemingly rosy skin, but I learned it’s not necessarily how you look, but really what colours look best on you (tested by drapes). In theory you could be a winter redhead!)

  • Aaa there’s so much science to it. I don’t know where to start. I just want to wear a plum red lipstick which unfortunately doesn’t look good on me. Most of the red actually. Realizing now that it’s because I have a wide full lips, and my nose is wide with rounded tip. I’ve learned a lot with this article. Thanks
