Bríd Smith, a People Before Profit TD for Dublin South Central, has announced her retirement from politics at the next general election. She served two terms in the Dáil and was a councillor on Dublin City Council for seven. Smith has spoken out against bin taxes and led calls for free public transport across Ireland. She remained opposed to the introduction of water.
Bríd was elected on the 2nd count in the 2020 general election in large part thanks to transfers from Sinn Féin candidate Aengus Ó Snodaigh, with Patrick Costello.
