A romantic relationship can lose its rhythm and affection at any point, due to various reasons such as mental health issues, feeling too relaxed, lack of trust, dishonesty, and health issues. This can lead to emotional disconnect, communication issues, or a lack of self-esteem. Emotional neglect in a marriage can cause real strain on the relationship, leading to feelings of isolation and disconnection.
Lack of affection can cause serious damage and may indicate a growing separation between the couple. Factors contributing to this include lack of communication, demotivation, taboo feelings surrounding sex, abuse or early exposure to sex, infidelity, and emotional affairs. It is important to identify these causes and address them to prevent further separation.
Affection deprivation can affect one’s love life, causing a lower sense of security in love and withdrawal from social interactions. To deal with a lack of affection in marriage, couples should try new experiences, share their experiences, and show care and concern for each other. Physical intimacy is also crucial for intimate relationships, interweaving verbal and affection.
Some reasons behind a partner not showing affection include different boundaries and personalities, feeling comfortable, being closed off, and fear of rejection. Physical health can influence how much couples can communicate, while emotional safety, fear of vulnerability, and underlying tensions can contribute to emotional safety issues.
Self-esteem issues can arise when physical intimacy is lacking, leading to feelings of neglect, loneliness, and emotional disconnection. Studies have shown that a lack of physical intimacy can lead to feelings of neglect, loneliness, and emotional disconnection. Improving the relationship by trying new experiences, sharing experiences, and providing empathy during challenging times can help restore the spark and affection in a relationship.

I’m finding this a bit much, dealing with the loss of my mum and family issues at home. I feel like going into my garage, starting up the 2 motorbikes in there and sit in a chair and fall to eternal sleep. Seriously money means nothing to me, I’m about to inherit enough to enable me to retire at the age of 45 but atm I’d rather end it all just beacsuse my wife refuses to give my a hug. Love is more important than money!
Wow ! Someone finally to get closer to what is actually happening for women! Adding to this monthly havoc of hormones jumps and downs, causing headaches and other physical symptoms, overwhelming feeling that you need to care for everyone ones else, crying children, physical tiredness, .. I could go on and on. After 30 years of marriage I have been given the words and scientific explanation.
I love how men literally have to jump through hoops for their wives like a circus animal in order to have a need met. My wife and I haven’t had sex in over a year. I help with everything around the house, I help take our kids to practices and games, I try to be intimate with my wife without mentioning anything about sex (ie just cuddling, hugs, volunteering to give her massages after a rough day…), I ask her on weekly date nights, I leave her sweet notes every now ans then before I leave for work…, and not one time in over a year have I even asked for or mentioned anything about sex. Still…nothing. I’ve been listening to you and many others for over a year, and I’ve learned a lot. It’s not what I’m saying to her or not saying to her that’s the problem. She’ll call me daily while I’m at work just to talk to me, and i love to sit and listen to her and chat. I literally feel like I’m doing everything. Care to talk to the wives out there and perhaps give some suggestions as to what they need to be doing for their husbands??
Have you been studying my relationship? It’s like you’re talking only to me. After a month of perusal and following your website I am really starting to see it clearer. From being in a panic and blind sided to where I am calmer and enjoying working on myself. “The outcome” is affecting me less….I am astonished with the results though. Its almost too good to be true. A long way to go but it’s a long way I am excited about. 🙂 Great work you are doing. 👍🏽
Going on 20 years & I chased & begged for years at one point I was open & vulnerable… he just walked all over me & left me alone we split up for 2/3 years & we’re together again & now he’s trying to be “affectionate” but he’s already set the broken foundation of the major lack of safety & trust & I no longer can continue with him I’ve expressed to him I no longer want to continue this relationship I no longer want intimacy I no longer seek companionship with him & we’re always arguing & I’ve told him to move out because at this point we’re just in a constantly cycle of messy emotions he won’t leave he won’t go because he doesn’t want to “Lose” me again but in actual it’s the fear of loneliness.
I’ve created a negative subconscious conditioning for her.. 🙁 too much pressure. How can i fix it or heal it??? She feels like it’s an obligation. And she’s openly told me it doesn’t make her feel good when it goes that way.. I’m trying to CHANGE MYSELF.. i feel rejected very easily and PERSONALLY.. but.. I’m changing! Hang in there dudes.
WOW Geoffrey, great advice brother, One question, I’m that guy that am in the cycle of getting frustrated, angry and can’t hide my feelings, it’s written all over my face and in my body language. I love my partner dearly, We have been together for 28 years, she’s the mother of my two sons who are 16 and 19 years old now. She never wanted sex after the boys were born. Now we are becoming sexual again. We were wild when we first meet. There’s so many elements that I don’t want to write here online. My biggest huddle is my anger. I can’t let go of the rejection. Any advice ????
Thank you for this. I’ve been speaking about sexual coercion in marriage for two years and have never heard anyone lay out the science behind my anecdotal experiences. The result of coerced sex is essentially that of sexual assault, so men understanding emotional and psychological safety is the only way to avoid this form of abuse.
When it comes to women and sex it’s a nightmare. I once heard a therapist say something that changed my life. She said that women make the mistake of waiting for something to happen, for something to happen to get turned on. What they forget is that unlike men who stimulate themselves quickly just by seeing something sexy, women need to take the initiative themselves for their body to work. In other words, the most important organ in sex is the brain. And as often happens, women with so much negativity destroy themselves.
The sad thing is this is most people. What is sad we have made this our reality. Basically people falling in love only in emotion. Love is a person, it is a sacrifice, it is an action, a decision. Emotion blows with the wind. Basically this is telling us that we’re dealing with a lot of people or ourselves that don’t have no self control!!! We let emotion detect who we are and how we’re going to treat people. It is funny how we dedicate love to our dreams or our businesses with no emotion, but can’t do that in our relationships or the people we say we love.
The vicious cycle of a man being an entitled unapologetic a grumpy jerk and then wondering why she finds him unattractive and even repulsive. This is not how they acted to get the woman in the first place. Commitment exposes those expectations —that if all was known up front —the relationship should have never began.
Came across your website accidentally and love your content. I like the science backed advice, women are not irrational as some suggests. I would love to see content/advice for women too. While the content is great, the man have to want to change or improve in the first place. How do you suggest us women get that message across that perhaps they need to watch your website and that they can do something to improve the relationship, it is not all up to the women.
Sex should be created not expected. This article’s subject is underestimated. Everyone should watch this and educate themselves when they are planning to have a good balance of long lasting intimacy and good quality in their relationship. Most people don’t get it and are missing the point. Sad truth. Thanks for this very educational article.
My spouse wants sex but is not an affectionate person, so she tells me – I’ve tried telling her we need to be affectionate in various ways so by the time we get to the sex it’s pleasurable – We don’t understand each other. I’m confused, how am I expected to have sex if the mood hasn’t been established.
thank you so much.this advice has been very helpful.I think this Hollywood style of Hot Sex have ruined a lot of real relationships in the real world. Also, this advice is not for bitter people who just wants to proof their point that women are evil. Women are not an unrealistic pornstar.but a real human being with real feelings.A mature man will understand this
It’s 23:10 by me right now… I’m sitting outside on the porch right now, crying my eyes out.. My partner is not being intimate with me anymore. We are both female. She’s someone older than me… And I don’t know if thats an aspect of it. But I have always been very insecure about myself… Today I dyed my hair and did my makeup nicely for her… And I’ve brought it up to her as well.. The topic of no intimacy… This morning and yesterday… Its been about a month ago that she was intimate with me. I’ve lost 5 kgs in that month, to be more attractive… And she says that she is attracted to me.. And she does still want me in that way… But throughout our relationship, our intimacy has decreased drastically on her side. And I don’t want to bring it up again, I dont ever want her to feel forced or that she has to. I love her with all of me. Her, along with our son, is my whole entire life. I don’t know what to do. I have no one to speak to… I just felt like I had to say it…
You nailed it! When it is presented to us as another chore to add to the many we already have, it becomes less attractive to us, it becomes a burden, not a desire. My biggest issue with my husband was that he didn’t no the difference between just being intimate without it having to lead to sex. That made it very difficult to have intimacy, which in turn ended up effecting our sex life. He would put pressure on me in small was and jesters, like Honey We really need along time this weekend. And my logical brains says, he is being open and Honest with me, but my emotional side, start to hear “Demands, pressure, no spontaneity” more like an appointment you make with a doctor 🤷🏻♀️ . My logic brains and I do love him wants to say ok, I hear you . But my emotionally side feels robbed, feels completely not motivated. It has been a bigger issue now that age and premenopausal symptoms have emerged. I want to be more affectionate, and have a healthy sex life, but sometimes it just feels more like work then enjoyment, and I’d rather just go to sleep. Lol He is trying to be better and understand, but it’s hard for me to get out of this mindset we have put ourselves into over the yrs . I need help with that!
Were all adults no one needs to be massaged to say how theyre feeling. We are adults, if your adult partner cant put on their big people pants and express how they feel wants and needs… well youre dealing with someone that is emotionally immature. So guess what dont ever beg someone to tell you how they feel. If they wanna behave like a child throwing a tantrum respect their space dont bother them remain kind but dont beg to be informed as to their temperment. And they will hopefully realize that speaking and communicating are more adult ways of voicing concerns as opposed to throwing an adult tantrum. No one can offend or upset you. Offence is taken not given. Also we are all personally responsible for our emotions, though others may hurt them.. it is always our personal duty to voice them. Should this cease them communication becomes strained resentment grows. By catering or begging to know how someone is feeling whem they wont simply tell you, you are in fact promoting childish behavior. State once and only once i care for you and when youre ready to talk im here but do not beg or persuade. This only serves to promote this kind of behavior
If you can’t secrete those hormones for her, then she can’t secrete down there. Therefore it is painful, and something that goes unnoticed is that it is a sacrifice made for him. You feel forgotten when all is done and you are left with pain. While the experience is supposed to be for both, not just for one.
Man so we us man we meant to do all this shit how about us lol 😂 we go through stress as and our testosterone level goes down and we still have to be affectionate let’s just say women are selfish and it’s always me me me me me open the door for me be romantic blah blah blah what the hell you doing to make sure my mental state is good as well, if is say go into the kitchen and cook women say well that’s outdated but when they need a tree cut down oh it’s a man job, listens women chose what’s best for them simple so guys it’s 2023 so 50/50 mate we both need love and care etc lol 😂
Sounds good, However why did God have men and women to get married, the problem is that people don’t want to Honor the contract of marriage. Openly talk and remember if you don’t drink enough water it will have a bad affect on you health same goes for food, as far as sex being a chore is rubbish, a wife expects her husband to maintain provide protect her mentally physically . The Creator has given husbands and wives their rights Honor those rights stop making excuses unless one is physically incapable of fulfilling their rights. The Creator knows best
