What curse word did Lily say at the wedding?

The two-and-a-half-year-old character picks up the word “fuck.” Her parents, Cam and Mitchell, are horrified. They fear she’ll say it at an upcoming wedding. We see Lily say the word, but we don’t hear it. The episode’s title: “Little Bo Bleep.” This is the first time a child has said the F-word on a scripted family TV show. Creator Steve Levitan revealed the storyline during an ABC comedy showrunner panel at the network’s press tour in Pasadena. “We had to convince ABC,” Levitan told EW.com after the panel. “It’s a natural story because we’ve all been through this as parents.” ABC says Modern Family gets away with a lot because it’s about context. We’re not a sexually charged show. It’s warm, so people accept it. “I’m sure we’ll have some haters.”

What does Lily say during the wedding?

You don’t hear the curse, and the actress who plays the girl never swears. She said “fudge,” and the producers added bleeps. A group called the No Cussing Club asked ABC to pull the episode. The episode makes kids think it’s okay to curse. The Parents Television Council also protested. “The more we see and hear this kind of language on TV, the more it will become acceptable in real life,” said a spokeswoman. Mitchell and Cam’s dilemma: How did she learn it? How do you explain to a two-year-old that some words are bad? How do you stop it if you’re watching it? And how do you not laugh? My toddler used to say “Jesus!” when he got frustrated. We talked to him, and he stopped. Explaining why it’s bad to use the name of a religion that’s not your family’s is hard, but it’s funny to hear a toddler swear like an adult. The subplot wasn’t the best Modern Family has done, but it felt real. Mitchell was frustrated with Cam for giggling and the couple disagreed on how to discourage the f-bomb. The show didn’t send a message about swearing or how parents would love it if their kids used bad language. Lily saw Cam crying at the wedding and said “f___” to cheer him up. He laughs at Lily’s swear words and ends up leaving the church with her.

  • Omg I was sooo confused because she looks so much like Claire! I thought “Sal” was a nickname and I googled her name for modern family and it said she’s an old friend of Mitch and Cam. I’m thinking wtf? Was this like a joke or spin-off they did, because that’s Mitch’s sister! So I was literally sitting here for a whole 5 minutes thinking wtf am I dreaming right now, is this a parallel universe because I’ve literally been perusal modem family for years (clearly missed these episodes). So I’m just trying so hard to come to terms with this and then I realise it’s a different actress all together 😅😅😅

  • American viewer here. The level of blatant racism in Sal’s comments are soooo NOT funny. At a time when hate crimes against Asian Americans are at all time high during the pandemic, leading to their murder and brutal beatings in full daylight while in public, I find the airing of this completely tone deaf to say the least. The fact that so many are okay with this just shows how normal and acceptable racism is in this country – such sad commentary of our times.
