Carolyn by Black Veil Brides is a powerful song that tells a story of love, loss, and perseverance. Released in 2010 as part of their debut studio album, “We Stitch,” the song is intended to provide comfort and support to those going through difficult times. The lyrics paint a vivid picture of a narrator who is deeply in love with someone named Carolyn. The song is a tale of devotion, even in the face of hardships.
Black Veil Brides is an American rock band based in Hollywood, California, formed in 2006 in Cincinnati, Ohio. The group currently consists of lead vocalist Andy Biersack, rhythm guitarist, and violinist Jake Pitts. The song was written by Andy but written through the eyes of Jake, who was dealing with his mother’s illnesses.
The song is a powerful anthem of solidarity and support in the face of life’s hardships. The lyrics convey a message of learning how and when we can’t listen, and that even if you’re going through hard times, someone is there for you. The song was written in honor of Jake’s mother, Carolyn, who had passed away.
Black Veil Brides are known for their use of black makeup, body paint, tight black studded clothing, and long hair, which were all inspired by the stage. On April 7th, Carolyn’s birthday, Andy was both excited and nervous. Everyone would either be the happiest guy ever alive or be completely heartbroken.

What does the veil symbolize in Christianity?
The veil is a visual statement of faith. It is a public proclamation that God is God and that we love and obey him. It’s a counter-cultural statement that says we obey God even when it’s not popular. That is a great mystery, especially in our time.

What is an emo goth girl?
You like alternative rock or metal, dark themes, modern clothes, skulls, bats, and graveyards. You love dark makeup, hair, and clothes. You love band tees and Converse. You love spiked bracelets and other accessories. Emo Goth is for you if you like these things. It’s up to you to find out what you like and dislike. There are no rules in the Goth subculture. You can mix and match different styles or focus on one you like. It’s up to you!
What is the moral of the story of the black veil?
The Ministers Black Veil shows that secrets divide people. In the story, Minister Hooper wears a dark veil. The veil represents secret sin and makes people avoid him.
What religion is the black veil?
“The Ministers Black Veil” is set in a small Puritan community. To understand the story, it’s important to know about Puritanism. The Puritans were a Christian Protestant group that started in England in the 1600s. They were banned from the country for their beliefs, so Puritans left for America and settled in New England. The Puritans believed that all people are born sinful and that only good behavior and religious education can lead them to heaven. Puritans lived simple lives and avoided dancing, singing, wearing bright colors, and going to plays. They focused on their piety and saw their behavior as an outward manifestation of their inner goodness. In “The Minister’s Black Veil,” Hawthorne shows the conflict between Hooper’s strict Puritanism and Milford’s more relaxed Puritanism. At the start of the story, the townspeople are thinking about secular things as they walk to church. Children are laughing, and young men are looking at young women. Hooper seems like a paragon of Puritan virtues once he puts on the veil. He doesn’t want to get married or make friends, even though Hawthorne says he does. When asked why, he says he’s more interested in heaven than on earth. This is the classic Puritan choice. As the story goes on, Hawthorne shows that Puritanism has flaws. Hooper’s veil encourages the townspeople to pay more attention to his sermons and fear for their souls. Hawthorne never shows the reward for this.” The Puritans have taken the townspeople’s joy and energy for nothing. The Puritans believe sin is everywhere, so they think the veil represents Hooper’s sins. They don’t realize he’s trying to tell them to look at their own sins. Even Hooper, a Puritan, may be breaking his own rules. The black veil makes him more visible to the townspeople, which could make him guilty of the sin of pride. Hooper is no better than the townspeople having fun on Sunday. The only difference is that Hooper is unhappy. Hawthorne thinks Puritanism is good because it makes people moral and pious. But it also makes them unhappy and makes them show off their morality.
What does Vale by Black Veil Brides mean?
Vale translates from Latin as “be well, be strong!” The album has that vibe. Biersack said the band hopes to inspire fans to embrace their individuality and inner strength. Last year, L.A. rock band Black Veil Brides released their fifth album, Vale, through Lava Records/Universal Republic Records. It’s their first album since 2014. But Vale is more like their third album, Wretched and Divine. In 2013, Black Veil Brides released a concept album with gothic and operatic themes, Wretched and Divine. The Wild Ones. The band members took on different names for the project, like My Chemical Romance did with Killjoys.
Wretched and Divine came with a film to help explain the meaning. Legion of the Black was a visual journey about rebels known as The Wild Ones defending themselves against F.E.A.R. in a post-apocalyptic future where society is oppressed by the government.
Is Black Veil Brides emo or goth?
Wikipedia says Black Veil Brides is an emo rock band. No more stereotypes. I hate the term “emo” for anything. People often call my rock bands “emo.” This pisses me off. I call my rock music “scene.” My last post explains why I dislike stereotypes. Stereotypes make people narrow-minded. Sorry for the rant. Anyway, back to my point. Alternative rock has a wide range of sounds. I had no idea what to expect from Black Veil Brides. I watched some of their music videos on YouTube. I don’t usually look up music videos. This shows how much I wanted to know about Black Veil Brides. “Heart of Fire” and “In the End” were my first Black Veil Brides songs. I wasn’t expecting such a hard rock sound. Black Veil Brides’ rock sound is very different from Andy Black’s The Shadow Side album. Black Veil Brides is one of the hardest rock bands I listen to. Only my symphonic metal and nu-metal bands come close to this heavy hard rock sound. I like variety in rock subgenres. It took me a few days to get used to Black Veil Brides’ music. The drums, bass, and two electric guitars made a beautiful, complex sound with Andy’s deep voice. This is the perfect combination. My ears loved it. I was hooked.
Why does the black veil symbolize secret sin?
In other words, Rev. Hooper wears a black veil to hide his face and to symbolize that everyone else in the community puts on a façade of righteousness and innocence to hide their sinfulness. Hooper hides his sins from his parishioners. He avoids thinking about them. He can’t bear to think about them, so he turns away. By wearing a black veil, Rev. Hooper lets his parishioners know that he’s not telling them about his sins. He is admitting he is sinful. If they don’t understand his gesture, they won’t admit they’re sinful. They keep repeating the message! They keep wearing an invisible veil. This irony repeats throughout the story. It shows how sin is seen as shameful in Puritan theology. The parishoners show that Rev. Hooper is right by not understanding his point. This makes his theology a theme of the story. Whether Hawthorne believes this is a matter of faith is another question. It’s clear that in the story, Rev. Hoopers’ flock behaves this way, so Hawthorne tells us to take this as a rule for reading the story.
What is the meaning of the name Black Veil Brides?
Purdy explained the meaning of Black Veil Brides. Black Veil Brides is a Roman Catholic term for a woman who marries into the church and gives up worldly pleasures to devote her life to God. She is then called a Black Veil Bride. It’s like a rock band where you have to give up a lot to do what you love. It has both good and bad. The happiest time in your life is getting married. The opposite of a wedding is a funeral. It all fits well for a dark and heavy rock band. The writing process for a tour and a record began immediately. In December 2009, the band went on their first US tour. Their first album, We Stitch These Wounds, came out in July 2010. It sold over 10,000 copies in its first week. It ranked at No. 36 on the Billboard Top 200 chart and No. 1 on the Billboard Independent chart. Sandra Alvarenga was replaced by Christian CC Coma shortly after the album came out. In late 2010, Black Veil Brides went on tour with The Birthday Massacre, Dommin, and Aural Vampire.
What is the Black Veil Brides controversy?
People envy those who brag about a party lifestyle. They envy people who are doing what they love for a living. They’re envious when they think one of the members has a record-producer father. Some well-known musicians have made negative comments about the band, including Ivan Moody of Five Finger Death Punch and Phil LaBonte of All That Remains. They say Black Veil Brides are not really metal. Black Veil Brides lyrics deal with heavy metal topics. They appeal to those who feel like outsiders. They like weirdos and tell fans to believe in themselves. I realized my problem with Black Veil Brides has nothing to do with whether they’re metal. They’re clearly metal. The problem is that the band is seen as emo by some old-school metal fans. Their name means a woman who marries into the church gives up all her pleasures to devote herself to God. It’s both good and bad. The combination of dark, heavy music (nowadays deemed as emo) with a rebellious attitude and a younger audience rubs older metalheads the wrong way. The band has changed a lot. Each new record is different. The band’s appearance has also changed. It’s hard to take a young band seriously when they demand respect for their consistent music.

This is one of my favorite bands of all time and I just love this song because it has so much meaning in it that I think everyone in …
I was waiting for this one so bad… I remember listening to this song in my best friend’s room while we were thinking this was sang for us. We were just two depressed teenagers who thought music was the only thing that could save us. And now I’m here alone, and I confirm, music save lifes, and BVB is one of the bands I’ll be thankful for forever, for being part of my healing process.
when i was bout 13 or 14 this song hit my feelings and now years later im nearly 16 and still this hits me in the feeling and now when im able to hear this new version i can defiently see the progress what they have done over the years and im so happy to be part of the BvBArmy and i will stay in the army forever
Let me tell you a story: I suffer from a lot of bullying at school since I was only 6 years old. Not only from other kids, but teachers made my life a big ass Hell, every single day. So when this song came out 10 years ago, I play this and The Mortician’s Daughter alone in my room, crying…a lot. Without any friends that could hear all the pain I had. Now? Now I am a 20 year old guy. No more bullying, I have a good job, a lot of good friends…and when I heard this remastered version…I cry again. But proud that I surpass all that pain to finally have a good life. 10 years ago, I use this song to cry. Now, I cry proud of myself with this song. Thank you for everything Black Veil Brides.
This song had me in tears within the first five minutes. Knowing it was about Jake’s mom it made me think of my own mother and it’s coming up on two years that she was found in her car. We still don’t know the circumstances surrounding my mom’s death as she was vagrant at the time and authorities didn’t bother to investigate. I got her into bvb and she loved Andy’s voice and just the pure talent of the band.
Wow you guys have grown so much as musicians over the years. I had honestly almost forgot about this song, but it showed up on my YT feed tonight. I can’t be the only person who actually needed this song tonight. Love and light everyone. We aren’t alone in whatever were facing in life. “We’re all in the same game, just different levels. Same hell, different devils.” Thanks BVB for everything you guys do, and for the very uplifting words..
Just finished the whole album and I’m really happy with it definitely worth the wait! This band has helped me with so much I’m glad they still are making music I hope I’ll meet you guys one day you’re really life savers. And have inspired me to start trying to make music too I just needa buy drums 😂 but overall love you guys thank you for making music 🖤🖤🖤
This song was one that got me through some rough times as a super emotional teenager going through some pretty crippling self esteem issues & questions of identity & self harm & suicidal thoughts, one I often fell asleep to. I was SUPER impatient to hear this track redone but listened through the whole album and gave each track the listen it deserved before this one. Worth it… and I love this version even better. Knowing what BVB has gone through and how they came out the other side victorious and with a new member that pushes them into a better place, it gives this song new meaning to me. I no longer depend on music alone to get me through, nor a band, as I have found that Jesus is infinitely better. But it was a real treat to hear this song remade, because it reminds me of how I too came out the other side victorious with a new heart. Still learning about many things, but ultimately victorious. Reminds me I truly am not alone as I once believed I was, that the storms can be braved, that today can be faced, that while pain & circumstances generally can’t be understood in the moment, there’s a purpose behind it. Much love to y’all, and know that you’re never alone ❤🖤
I haven’t been in this fanbase for ten years, in fact I’m coming up on four years in August. But even though I’ve only been here for 40% of this band’s career, they’ve done so much to get me through tough times in my life. I’m so happy to be a part of the BVB Army and extremely thankful to be a part of the ten year celebration. Here’s to the album and many more to come! BVB Army Forever!!
Ive been a fan of BVB since about 2015 and i wanted to listen to this because ive heard alot about it but had never listened to it prior from today. I didnt realise it was about Jakes mom. It made me sad because my grandma passed away today, but when he says “you’re not alone” it gave me goosebumps and i realised my grandma will always be with me. Thank you Black Veil Brides🖤🖤
God it’s been years since I’ve heard this song. It’s amazing how a lot of “emo” songs and bands i haven’t listened to in a while are still engraved in my memory. Its still on my bucket list to see a bvb concert as they were my absolute favorite band. I stopped obsessing over them once i got into high school but i still like their songs. They still hold a place in my heart
As a fan of Black Veil Brides sinse their ‘we Stitch these Wounds’ album, I can say that this new version is amazing. Andy’s voice has seriously gotten better throughout the years and has aged fantastically. CC’s drumming and Lonny’s bass together make a powerful punch to all the songs of the album. Jake and Jinxx have also increased their tones in their guitars and it sounds sick asf! I played the album the second I woke up and it was definitely worth the wait. Thank you BVB \\m/
I’m sooo glad and happy there redoing this album, this album has always held a special place in my heart and it’s gotten me through most dark times.. Black Veil Brides have been a HUGE impact on my life, Andy Biersack has always been a huge inspiration of mine.. this album makes me happy ❤️. And this is truly one of my favorite songs ❤️
You truly know they’ve helped you, they’ve saved you when you’re smiling singing alone, happy tears as opposed to listening and crying in pain until you couldn’t breathe bavk then. You saved a heart guys. You saved a lot of hearts. Fuck I’m a weeping mess rn. Love you all fam. ✊🏼✊🏾✊🏿 We braved the storm. 😭🖤
I listened to this one on repeat after my great uncle died, I was so distraught and the song brought me comfort and that feeling of love I really needed. I looked up to my uncle so much and was inspired by all the great things he did, so his passing destroyed me. Listening to Carolyn made me feel like my uncle was sitting there with me telling me how much hope he has for my future and telling me I’ll do great things. I was thirteen when he died. I am eighteen now and have started my first year as an English Major and started writing a novel a few years ago. Now I’m sitting here, listening to this song, as I write my poems and stories and study for classes. Black Veil Brides has given me so much hope and their music speaks to my heart. I will forever be grateful for and a fan of their amazing music. Rock on, BVB Army!
I heard this when I was 12, at one of the worst times in my life and truly hearing “you’re not alone, you’ll brave this storm” was one of the things that got me past it. I’m 21 now, and graduating college soon. I can’t help but to think that if these dudes didn’t write a song like 12 years ago, I wouldn’t be.
Those times in life we learn to try, with one intention Of learning how and when we’ll die, but we can’t listen I wish to God I’d known that I, I didn’t stand a chance Of looking back and knowing why, or pain of circumstance You’re not alone We’ll brave this storm So here’s my song I wrote in time, when it was needed Through pain of heart or loss of mind, your burdens lifted You aren’t alone just know that I Can’t save our hearts tonight You’re not alone We’ll brave this storm Let’s face today You’re not alone You’re not alone We’ll brave this storm Let’s face today You’re not alone You’re not alone We’ll brave this storm Let’s face today…
This reminds me so much of what falling in love with the one you wanna spend the rest of your life with and you had no choice but to be away from him/her! I know because in 2012 I met the girl I was gonna propose after we graduated! I hope she’s happy 😢😭 🙁☹️ and out of all of my girlfriends I loved her so much that when I heard the original version of this I played it for her
Those times in life we learn to try With one intention Of learning how and when We’ll die but we can’t listen I wish to god I’d known that I I didn’t stand a chance Of looking back and knowing why Or pain of circumstance You’re not alone And we’ll brave this storm So here’s my song I wrote in time When it wasn’t needed Through pain of heart or loss of mind Your burden’s lifted You aren’t alone just know that I Can’t save our hearts tonight You’re not alone And we’ll brave this storm And face today You’re not alone You’re not alone And we’ll brave this storm And face today You’re not alone You’re not alone And we’ll brave this storm You’re not alone
8 years ago, I had discovered this album and the first being Knives and pens. I had been at the time drowning in a deep depression that almost caused me to make ‘that last mistake’. I cannot stop listening to this particular song though because through the years I have faught major anxiety and PTSD as well. This song had always helped me through those episodes, even putting me to sleep after several restless hours each night and multiple panic attacks through every day for 7 years. Hearing the major improvements and how incredibly mature the sound has evolved is just beyond exciting. I just keep falling even more in love. Thank you BVB for being the first band to shed some light in mine and so many other’s lives!
i started listening to BVB in the 8th grade. i remember this song got me through a lot, getting through my issues with anxiety and self harm. i ended up disclosing years later that i was being taken advantage of by a family member who lived with us, which was the root of my mental health problems. i’m a sophomore in college now, and this song honestly still means so fucking much to me, and listening RSTW for the first time while driving around running errands i started BAWLING over this song. i do look back and wish i could understand why the shit that happened to me did, but i’ve moved on and up and im grateful to this band for being apart of my healing. y’all really do mean the world to me. this new rendition is absolutely beautifully done.
Awesome work with the album. Overall loved it. Two points come to mind though… I wish the screams were mixed a little louder, especially the intro for Perfect Weapon. Also, I wish the lyrics were sung for Mortician’s Daughter (but it still is an amazing song). Well done! Some of the songs I didn’t get into as much before I appreciate more now due to the quality boost. This is a top notch album, with now a top notch recording. 10 years of BVB!
I feel so bad for Jake! Idk how the poor dude kept a straight face on when he played this song live on August 1/2020 for the re-stitch live show. He’s a strong dude knowing he lost his mom to cancer, yet is still living his life to the fullest today! He said it was a sad day for him when she passed, he was dealing with terrible anxiety and depression when she left his world. He wrote this song in honor of her, and had her name/memorial tattooed across his chest as a showing of love to her and how much he misses her(for the chest is where the heart is). This song has got to mean so much to him! Especially the remade version here! I got to know him, and his wife Inna! They are some of the sweetest people ever! I honestly considered him as a big brotherly figure to myself. When he played this song acoustically in one of his twitch streams with Inna… I saw poor Jake tear up, that Inna had to give him a hug. And I got sad than cause, he inspired me to play guitar… and I never saw him sad before. That when I saw Jake with teary eyes, it made me tear up.

Good luck!\r \r Please pass this on to other articles! ❤️❤️❤️\r (This comment is not mine. I found it on another article and wanted to spread it) (Me)When I seen this I wanted to put it on this specific article because this song has helped me so much with my depression and suicidal thoughts. I want to help others because I have felt alone my entire life and this song help with that feeling. When it first came out and I first heard it, it made me feel like Ashley, Andy, Jake, Jinxx, and Sandra, and now Lonny and CC were there with me when they physically weren't.
I would have liked the drums to be heard better, it gives me the feeling, I think, as if the sound on some occasions came out as covered or something like that, the same with Andy’s voice. It’s a shame because this song is beautiful. I expected the battery to sound cleaner, its sound. I don’t know, maybe it’s my mistake and I don’t know enough, I’m not at all upset with the album, maybe my fanaticism with the band and their music. and the desire to listen to the song as it was before, I know that time passed and things changed, but leaving that aside, I go to the sound quality. I loved the album, anyway
Okey, I’m gonna be honest although many of you surely have opposite opinion. I used to love BVB back in time. I used to be a member of BVB army. Now when I’m older I still listen to them, I still enjoy their music and still support the band. This whole album sounds great. The new sound on well known songs sounds great. But Carolyn, one of my favourite songs from We Stitch These Wounds Is not that great in this. Yeah, it’s still beautiful, but that emphaty, gentle elegance…. It’s not that strong. It’s much heavier. From my point od view this song is made to be ballad, lullaby for the broken and I can’t hear it in that anymore.
