But when it comes to marriage, especially arranged marriages, a woman with a sexually active history is still seen as a problem. Why is virginity so important? How does this affect women? Dr. Mahindra Vatsa, a gynecologist and sex counselor, says it’s because our traditional values are still strong. “One of the most common questions I get is ‘How do I know my bride or girlfriend is a virgin?’ “There’s no way to know,” says Dr. Watsa. He says it’s just men and their families being unrealistic. How does our culture not stop couples from having sex before marriage? “Once a couple is engaged, they think they can do anything,” he says. “It’s not a big deal.” Some men still complain to me that their wives did not bleed on the first night, so they think she is not a virgin. The hymen doesn’t always break when a woman has sex. Some women are born without it, some are so elastic that it never ruptures, and some are so fragile that it may have ruptured without them even realizing it. “It’s not possible to tell if a girl is a virgin just by looking at her,” says Dr. Rajan Bhonsle. “It’s also not possible to tell if a girl is a virgin just by asking her.” He adds that in a relationship, it’s more important for couples to focus on virtues like trust and honesty. “If a woman admits to having had sex, it shouldn’t matter. “She’s honest for admitting it, even though she could have hidden it,” he says. Will God forgive me for losing my virginity before marriage?
Your question about forgiveness shows you care about following God’s design for sex. This is good. God wants us to follow his will. God wants our hearts to be on him. Those who follow him are forgiven for all they do that goes against his will. This includes premarital sex. Paul said, “I do the wrong things I don’t want to do.” “I do the evil I don’t want to do,” (Rom. 7:19). You may feel the same way about past choices. But Paul later says, “Thank God for saving me through Jesus!” (Rom. 7:25). Thank God for helping us follow his will. He gives us strength, his presence, and the presence of other Christians to encourage us and keep us accountable to live godly lives. So, now that you know God will forgive you, what do you do? Should we keep doing things against God’s will to see more of his grace? Of course not! Instead, think about this:
What did Jesus say about virgins?
Then the Kingdom of Heaven will be like ten virgins who went out to meet the bridegroom. Five were foolish, and five were wise. The foolish took no oil, but the wise did. While the bridegroom was delayed, they all slept. But at midnight, there was a cry. The bridegroom is coming! Come out to meet him! Then all the virgins woke up and lit their lamps. The foolish said to the wise, Please give us some of your oil, because our lamps are going out. But the wise said, “What if there isn’t enough for us and you?” Go to those who sell and buy for yourselves. While they went to buy, the bridegroom came. Those who were ready went in with him to the wedding. The door was shut. Then the other virgins came, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us. But he answered, “I don’t know you.” Watch, because you don’t know when the Son of Man will come.

How does God define virginity?
Early Christians were no exception. Virginity became important in discussions of Christ’s birth from Mary, in imagery for salvation and redemption, in some Christians’ vows to live celibately, and in efforts to defend and advertise Christianity. Many texts about virginity appeared in the fourth century. Many emphasized the “virginity of the soul” in addition to the “virginity of the body.” But what makes virginity “bodily” is different for everyone. Virginity of the body can mean not having sex, living a long life, being fertile, or being pure. Some ideas, like the idea that unpenetrated vaginas are closed off, appear in the late works of a few fourth-century writers. Others don’t know about these ideas. Being a virgin wasn’t always about sex. People also used the term to mean various things about their bodies. Near the turn of the fifth century, Christian texts say midwives checked for genital virginity and that Mary’s genitals were unopened during Christ’s birth. Some earlier writers said Mary was a virgin because she was inexperienced or because her body was untouched by childbirth. Those in late-fourth-century debates over celibacy versus marriage went further. They said God showed the superiority of virginity by keeping Mary’s sex organs closed in childbirth. Many fifth-century leaders said that Mary’s unopened womb proved that Christ had two natures. Christians used the concept of anatomical virginity in many ways, from verifying vowed virgins to defending theological positions. Virginity became visible and tangible in women’s bodies.

Does virginity affect marriage?
People who got married as virgins had the lowest divorce rates. But it’s not clear if having had sex before marriage makes a marriage more or less stable. Having more than one partner doesn’t increase the odds of divorce. The 1960s changed premarital sex. Before the sexual revolution, unmarried heterosexual sex partners often married each other. In recent decades, first sex usually doesn’t lead to marriage. Figure 1 shows how the odds of having only one lifetime sex partner have declined over the 20th century for married Americans. The biggest declines occurred for people born between the 1920s and the 1940s. They came of age during the sexual revolution of the 1960s. Since then, the chances of having only one lifetime sex partner have been about 40% for married women and have gone up for married men. This is similar to what I found for women marrying before the new millennium. How have our marriages been affected? In a blog post from two years ago, I wrote about how having sex before marriage affects the chance of divorce. People who got married as virgins had the lowest divorce rates. But it’s not clear how sexual history affects marriage stability. Having more than one partner doesn’t increase the odds of divorce. This post looks at how having sex before marriage affects how happy couples are. Many IFS blog readers probably think that having multiple sex partners makes marriages unhappy. But this isn’t always true. Marital happiness and divorce aren’t always linked. The Great Depression is a good example of this. Poverty made marriages less happy, but fewer people got divorced because it was too expensive. A family with a lot of arguments is more likely to have a bad marriage, but not more likely to get divorced. This research suggests that premarital sexual behavior doesn’t affect marital happiness as much as I said in my last post.

What Does the Bible Say About Marriage And Virginity? Pastor’s Daughter Goes Viral After Giving Dad A Virginity Certificate On …
If any man takes a wife and goes in to her and then turns against her, 14 and charges her with shameful deeds and publicly defames her, and says, ‘I took this woman, but when I came near her, I did not find her a virgin,’ 15 then the girl’s father and her mother shall take and bring out the evidence of the girl’s virginity to the elders of the city at the gate. 16 “And the girl’s father shall say to the elders, ‘I gave my daughter to this man for a wife, but he turned against her; 17 and behold, he has charged her with shameful deeds, saying, “I did not find your daughter a virgin.” But this is the evidence of my daughter’s virginity.’ And they shall spread the garment before the elders of the city. 18 “So the elders of that city shall take the man and chastise him, 19 and they shall fine him a hundred shekels of silver and give it to the girl’s father, because he publicly defamed a virgin of Israel. And she shall remain his wife; he cannot divorce her all his days. 20 “But if this charge is true, that the girl was not found a virgin, 21 then they shall bring out the girl to the doorway of her father’s house, and the men of her city shall stone her to death because she has committed an act of folly in Israel, by playing the harlot in her father’s house; thus you shall purge the evil from among you,” (Deut. 22:13-21).
First and foremost, I obviously disapprove of the Biblical practices cited by Sheik Shabir Ally towards the second half of the article. And I agree that it is very foolish for one to announce the details of very private matters publicly (to my understanding, the father didn’t ask his daughter for such a certificate, he asked her to refrain from fornication, and she presented the certificate with her own volition). However, I personally cannot agree with the first segment of the article with the three news presenters implying that parents should have no say when it comes to the sex lives of their children. Religious parents should absolutely teach their children against fornication, and I do believe this is consistent with our own Islamic values. As the Prophet ﷺ said: كلكم راع وكلكم مسئول عن رعيته Especially the case when said Muslims are living in communities that encourage such an evil practice, and in some cases, even discriminates against those who don’t engage in such practices.
