Marriage Encounter is a weekend-long program designed to help married couples improve their relationship communication skills and develop closer, deeper, and more satisfying marriages. It is held at hotels or retreat centers, providing couples with the freedom to escape daily demands and focus on each other and their relationship. The program emphasizes communication between husband and wife, free from everyday distractions and tensions.

Marriage Encounter is open to all, regardless of age or faith, and is designed to deepen and enrich the joys a couple shares together. The weekend is presented in a full weekend detached from the usual everyday distractions, and couples can hear from fun, engaging couples who teach and demonstrate communication methods.

The program is designed to give married couples the opportunity to examine their lives together, their weaknesses and strengths, attitudes towards their families, hurts, desires, ambitions, joys, and frustrations, and to do so openly and honestly in a private, face-to-face, heart-to-heart setting. A team of Catholic couples and a priest present a series of presentations, allowing couples to look at themselves as an individual and then their relationship to those they live and work with.

As a non-profit organization, Marriage Encounter charges a non-refundable fee of $100 when applying for the program. The weekend allows couples to search their own lives for their feelings, dreams, and desires, sharing the Lord’s presence with each other.
