Grooms traditionally don’t see the bride before the ceremony, as it is considered bad luck for the groom to see her in her gown before the ceremony. However, modern trends embracing first looks and pre-ceremony meetings have made it possible for brides to apply to reality shows. A groom can see the wedding dress during the ceremony or at a pre-arranged dress reveal before the ceremony. It is important to create a wedding day that is true to the couple’s relationship and values.
David’s Bridal offers a wide selection of dress pants, dresses, skirts, and 3 piece suits, with prices ranging from $21 to $860. Nordstrom has an online Mother of the Bride section.
To create a memorable wedding day, couples can email a list of questions to the bride or groom and get their answers. The goal is to see how well the couple works together. Some thoughtful and encouraging words to say to a bride on their special day include “You look absolutely stunning!” and “Remember to take a break.”
In summary, the significance of the groom seeing the wedding dress before the ceremony is entirely up to the couple and their relationship.

If the couple objected to the marriage, it was decided that they should be kept apart. If they’d never met, that was even better. The bride wore her veil over her face until the ceremony was over.
Looking Up The Aisle. The tradition that the groom shouldn’t look back up the aisle is an extension of not seeing each other before the wedding. He couldn’t leave until the bride reached the altar.

“what if you hated it?” “he’s the boss” lori – do you love the dress? bride – daniel doesn’t love it lori – do YOU love it? bride – daniel? groom – i thought i was gonna pick the dress DON’T MARRY HIM! I nearly threw up. Girl, if you give him such power, he will easely take advantage of you, be violent, brainwash you and make you feel like you are guilty!
This rubs me the wrong way. This is exactly how it was when I was with my controlling, physically & emotionally abusive, narcissistic ex. I was under his control for so long I would look to him to answer. I’m lucky I got out & am doing a million times better. Idk if that’s the case here, or if it was production, which is completely possible, or he is only like this about the wedding but any way it bothers me.
It’s really sad to watch this because I was in a similar relationship and thankfully ended it before it carried on too long. His comment of “she always agrees with me” is a huge red flag of this being an overbearing and controlling relationship. She doesn’t even feel comfortable enough voicing her opinion to him. I wish I could reach out and help her…..too many women end up in relationships like this.
Oh I just love Lori and Monty. I just love the show. The comic chemistry between Lori and Monty is wonderful. How they find people that are having a rough go, or have had a rough go, and make their wedding dreams come true gives me goosebumps. Keep doin what you’re doin you’all you are spreading love and kindness. Happy New Year 🎉❤🎉🎉❤❤
I understand that some women have anxiety with shopping (that’s exactly how my mom is actually), but there’s a difference between being controlled by someone (in this case a groom) and having others opinions while keeping yours in mind. Even with my mom who didn’t like shopping and wasn’t one for big weddings, she still chose her dress herself (with her mom as support) for her wedding day, my dad did his things and she did hers.
Honestly, I didn’t get the vibe that the bride was doing something she didn’t want to. She gave the groom power in the beginning but only for as long as she felt comfortable doing so. When she found her dream dress, she took the power back. She seems like a strong independent woman who likes to let her man think he has the power while in fact she is the one taking the decisions… 😌
I just went wedding dress shopping and I have to say, I wish I could have had someone else shopping for me. I was pretty much by myself with just my sister and she wasn’t allowed to look through the racks with me. I hated dress shopping in Covid times 😭 Luckily I found something that fit me perfectly.
I get the feeling she deals with this guys control issues regularly. Theirs something about him that gives me red flags ALL over the place. Girl, don’t be desperate to marry because you are a young beautiful independent woman and if this guy doesn’t see everyone needs to make their own choices, he’s not worth it.
Im glad she kicked him out in the end it shows at the start of the appointment and probably before it she would listen to anything he said when he looked shocked when she asked him to leave thats when I thought she’s finally realised thats not okay and hopefully she’ll start putting her foot down more often As for the second bride that couldnt find what she was looking for I think next time she should try on a low wasted ball gown that would flatter her more than that a line did
Sirens go off from when she said this: We are a perfect couple because Wherever I lack things Daniel has it.. Ummmmmm if that’s all you got to say when they wanna know about you and your fiancé then something is wrong. I hope she isn’t getting abused but I highly believe she is and without a doubt being controlled.
“Daniel is a great guy… wherever I lack things, Daniel has it” Clearly Daniel has put in the work to groom Monique into thinking she is incomplete without him and that she needs him because she is lacking in general and has tricked her into thinking he has whatever she apparently “lacks” 🙄 It’s sad because we all know that if she went through with the wedding she is either still oblivious or realized she chose to marry a psychopath and probably regrets her decision
I’ve seen worse than Daniel. The issue isn’t Daniel but instead the bride herself. She lacks confidence, self love, self worth, and self respect. She’s the one enabling him because she let’s him. She has no self control. And it will only get worse if she doesn’t get herself together. Good luck with that!
You know you make an appointment for a dress, and its month in advance. She didnt want to pick out a dress at all and so Daniel stepped in and said he’d make the decision and SHE went along with it up to the DAY of the appointment. So you know, I doubt we really know if its toxic or if it was just a change of heart.
“How is she gonna say yes without my opinion?” Uh, the same way every other bride says yes without their groom’s opinion? By knowing what she wants and actually wanting to have a voice in what she wears? My god he was so controlling, I could barely watch this. I feel so bad for this bride too. Like, when describing him, she said “what I lack, he has” in that little snippet, it made me think she was super insecure about herself. It just hit me in a bad way, I hope she’s doing alright…
I took my fiance with me to my appointment, he gave his opinion, yes, but in a sweet and caring way. There was a dress I loved and he didn’t, I almost cried because of it, but after that I tried on one more dress and that was the one, I felt gorgeous in it, if it wouldn’t have been for my fiance’s opinion, I would’ve never found it
I didn’t really enjoy the idea of shopping for my dress. The idea is overwhelming. I had a friend of a friend who worked for Angel Sanchez. They got me in for a private shopping appointment. I went with just myself and my sister. They served tea and we discussed the wedding theme. We talked about my personal style and the brought out 7 dresses. The first dress was the dress. I think I would’ve been overwhelmed in a classic bridal dress shop like this.
Just from how the daughter talks, you can tell she has been a victim of narcissistic abuse. “The least I can do for my mom is try it on” “I don’t like the embellishment, but I know my mom would love it. I can compromise”. She doesn’t feel like she can have her own moment. She has to share it with her mother because she knows how much her mother hates not having something be about her.
I don’t think this mom is a “monster”. There’s a lot of clips from all the Say Yes to the Dress series where friends and family unapologetically ruin the dress shopping experience for the bride. Yes, this mom did try on a dress and upset the bride. She shouldn’t have done that. However around the 7:10 mark, she realized that she hurt her daughter and apologized. That sets this “disruptive guest” clip apart from all those other clips, and I appreciate her for recognizing her wrong and making efforts to reconcile. She’s human like the rest of us.
This is one of the reasons that some people DONT WANT CONTACT WITH THEIR PARENTS! This is disgusting and if I were Chassidy that mother would be out of that session and out of my life faster then she can say “What? What did I do wrong?” Idc if that’s a bad choice if that was my mother no. Poor Chassidy. That’s one of the WORST things that can happen when the day is all about you.
When the Mum said to her daughter, “you look like a queen”. I just thought wow, suck up all you like but you completely ruined one of the biggest moments for a bride to be. Trying on wedding dresses, and the mother just ruined that experience for her daughter. WOW! Thankyou for the over 1000 likes everyone.
Lol why are the shop attendants acting shocked when they are the ones who allowed her mother in the back in the first place as well as hand her the dress to try on?!! 😂 The Drama!! 🫢 With a mom like that, she would be invited to my wedding but she wouldn’t be allowed to enter the building until after I said “I Do” 😂
If there was a way to know someone would do something like this, don’t bring them with you. Leave them at home, don’t tell them any of your plans, NOTHING! It doesn’t matter if the mother was getting engaged too, she could of waited to make her own appointment to try on wedding dresses. “I didn’t think it would bother you that much” BS! You knew this was your daughter’s appointment, her moment to try on wedding dresses, and yet you had the nerve to try on a wedding dress.
“You look like a virgin” like is that supposed to be an insult? Who even says that. That poor young lady. That mother is the type of person you leave home at a bridal appointment like this where she’s engaged as well. But it seems like that mother has a real hold on her. So much that she wants her mother’s approval.
Her mother kinda reminds me of my mom. Her hair, nails, and outfits would be on point. She would schedule to get my hair done once a year. Then she would bring home clothes I either couldn’t fit or wasn’t my style, then she’d turn around like “ig I’ll wear it” all gleefully. Just to clarify. Those clothes were ALWAYS meant to be hers. She’d go through my clothes and wear my leggings and shirts. She was 3x bigger than me so they would stretch out. She never saw the issue. I remember when I was 19 and had my own place. Things would go missing, like sandals and bracelets. She stopped once I made a huge deal about it.
“I felt… like a villain” no, honey, it wasn’t just your feeling. The whole appointment her daughter’s been asking for this to be about herself, the mom even acknowledged that over and over again, and still she tried desperately to make it about herself and looked bored and annoyed when it wasn’t going her way. The worst part is that it’s obvious it’s not a one time thing and everyone fully expected her to behave this poorly. It is beyond me how the mom seemed to genuinely think she was perceived as cute and casual when everyone knew perfectly well what she was trying to do and how she was trying to so ruthlessly manipulate her daughter.
Mom’s apology sound SOOOOO sincere. “LOOK. I’m sorry. That I did that.” No hug, no trying to comfort her, and just the fact she did all of this. And when the daughter asked her to take it off, she looked kinda put off. Not that she broke her daughter’s heart, just that she had to take it off. How are you gonna do that to your own daughter?
With a mom this self-centered, give her the first appointment. Let her get her narcissistic needs met. Later, have your own appointment and enjoy the day for yourself. This isn’t the first day that mom competed with her daughter rather than supporting her. My heart goes out to the daughter. She looks amazing in that first dress.
Chassidy looks like such a sweetheart and she has such a Disney princess face, so pretty and kind and soft. But her mom has such a Disney villain face, so sharp and cold, with an evil and narcissistic looking smile. This lovely young girl was walking out in a beautiful dress that looked gorgeous on her, and her mother walks in in a dress too, taking the focus away from her. Yes, the mom is engaged, too, but her time and her spotlight will come. This is her daughter’s wedding. Hers will come later.
The audacity of this mom to continuously say “it’s all about you today” while scheming to find a dress for herself and then try it on is breathtaking! I think most brides envision going wedding dress shopping with their moms but, with some of the moms, the brides shouldn’t seek their approval. It’s your day, get what you like!
FUN FACT most tv producers and crew have to take a psychology class or have a degree in it. So they can know how to make good tv. I remember counless people who stated editing fabricated looks, reaponses, and conversations. As well as people instigating or malin friends with cast subjects only to betray them in the end. I wiuld not doubt there was someone who offered the mama to try on a dress. Not sayin this happened but i would not be surprised
I’m not sure if it’s a cultural thing or a family thing but in my family, it’s more than ok to share dress appointments. I remember when looking for my debut dress, I saw a dress my mom would like and showed it to her. She got a dress before I did and it was completely fine for me. We found mine after. I think (personal opinion) the mom is looking for a dress as well if completely fine, it’s the moms attitude towards finding her own dress instead of helping her daughter first, and then looking for her dress is the main problem. Maybe if the mom supported her daughter’s needs first then looking for hers, the bride would be fine with it.
Chassidy’s dress choice is BEAUTIFUL for her! I hope her and her husband move far away from her mom. They can still be “friends” on the phone and visit every once in a while. But no “friend” would put on a WEDDING dress the same day as her daughter (unless it was a thing they wanted to do together). This is ridiculous and shows her mom doesn’t respect her as an individual. Her mom might only be her “friend” to get other folk to see her as youthful, etc because the bride HERE is actually really pretty and the mom is getting old. She’s getting used and she doesn’t even realize it. I hope the bride HERE learns from what her mom did and begins at least distancing herself because this was so messed up and it makes me wonder what else her mom has done to steal the limelight from her.
You can see the mom knows better, but who she is is controlling her. She can’t really be there for her. The daughter is unselfish and more mature. The mother totally admitted she was shopping for herself and then, when her daughter and friend came in the room, she lied and said she wanted her to try on the dress. She was so uncomfortable being caught. It only approved it when the daughter took the dress off, she again could not control herself and went and put the dress on . Hopefully seeing herself in this article teaches her what maturity looks like. Her daughter. I hope she reflects on herself and grows as a person.
That mother had some nerve to hurt her daughter like that. That mother knew exactly what she doing, and the fact that she had the nerve to try on the dress and to step out all smiley and bubbly and I’m glad that nobody appeased her or complimented her I’m glad nobody said anything to her when she came out with that wedding dress on. I’m glad that everyone made her feel like crap and uncomfortable because that day is about your daughter and then you have the nerve to turn and make the day about you. That fact that she said “I didn’t think that it would bother you that much. I really didn’t.” Lady please you knew exactly that was going to bother your daughter you just didn’t care and the fact that you see your daughter as competition like lady shame on you. But in all honesty if I was the daughter after seeing what the mother just did that would have completely ruined my mood and I would have said “I’m ready to leave like the mood is ruined now.” and I would secretly make a new appointment and not invite the mother at all💯 and I would not invite the her to the wedding either.
My Mom is 78 and even said recently “You have your friends, who are like second daughters to me, but I am your Mom.” She’s been saying that my whole life and yes we’ve had ups and downs but I love that I always have a mom. I have a couple friends who’s mothers always acted like besties and the vibe between them is not good.
The ‘Hi Chass!’ with the devious smirk reminded me SO much of that one award series where they were honoring Britney Spears for her lengthy music career and her sister stole the spotlight by performing a remix of her hits and then just smirked at her like ‘Surprise!’ when it’s been known for awhile that Britney wasn’t allowed to perform remixes but desperately wanted to. That look in Jamie Lynn’s eyes when she smirked evilly and just went ‘surprise’ in that bitchy way is IDENTICAL to the look this woman gave her daughter. As a daughter of a narcissist it gave me chills.
As someone who grew up with a narcissistic mother – her mom displays exactly the same qualities I had to grow up with. She couldn’t even give her daughter A FEW HOURS to be the centre of attention. So sad because you can see she’s not really apologising sincerely and will have permanently changed what could have been a beautiful day for her daughter and their relationship into something half spoiled
I’m a person who loves sparkles. Rhinestones, glitter, sequins, etc. However, when it came to my wedding (no longer married), it was different. My dress had minimal beads (swirls, not coated) and my bridesmaids had a side brooch. Sometimes less is more. As a matter of a fact, l only tried on two dresses. I wanted a dress like Hilary Duff’s in A Cinderella Story and that’s what l got
