Is it OK to be unsure about marriage?

It’s good to like the things in your life and be afraid of making too big a change. Not marrying the right person doesn’t mean you’re marrying the wrong person. That’s part of the idea that there’s “The One.” I recently asked my fellow therapists about their experiences of uncertainty before getting married. All 22 married respondents said they felt ambivalent before their weddings. This is a small sample, but it made me think about why feeling unsure about marriage is not more normal. We often see feelings of uncertainty as a sign of failure, but they are a natural part of making major life decisions. People expect us to be confident and excited from the moment we get engaged until we walk down the aisle. We are made to feel that if we are unsure, something is wrong. When I Googled “ambivalence about marriage,” I found articles about how doubt means don’t and how you should leave if you have questions about your wedding. But all the happy married people I asked said they felt unsure before their weddings. Is being unsure a bad sign? Instead of assuming it is bad, we should understand where we fall on the uncertainty scale. Over the past year, I’ve been engaged to a man I love. I’ve experienced uncertainty many times. I felt ashamed to admit it to anyone. I was afraid it would hurt my future and that people would judge me. I’ve seen enough romantic comedies to know that you’ll be sure when you find the one. I kept it to myself. I was alone, thinking something was wrong with me. When I told my therapist, she said this was normal. I felt better, but I was still alone. Even if it was something everyone felt, it wasn’t something everyone talked about.

What people don t know about marriage?

Marriage doesn’t make you complete. … You won’t always feel attracted to your partner. … You won’t always like your partner. … Love doesn’t last forever. … Love grows with time and effort. … You can give love even if you don’t feel it. Sheryl Paul, M.A., has helped thousands worldwide through her practice, books, courses, and website. She has a master’s in psychology counseling from Pacifica Graduate Institute and wrote The Wisdom of Anxiety. If we gave couples a manual to help them understand and accept the challenges of an intimate partnership, our divorce rate would be much lower. If we don’t know what’s normal, we might think there’s something wrong with us, our partner, or our relationship. This often leads to breakups or divorces.

What is the walkaway wife syndrome?

Sometimes, one spouse leaves the other suddenly. The other spouse is shocked. This is called “walkaway wife syndrome.” This term is used for when a spouse, often the wife, feels alone, neglected, and resentful in a bad marriage and decides to leave. What is walkaway wife syndrome? The term “walkaway wife syndrome” suggests a sudden decision, but it often comes after a long period of conflict. The divorce takes years to happen. After trying to get her spouse to deal with their relationship issues, the wife finally decides it’s pointless. She has thought about her options and is ready to leave the marriage.

OK, OK, I’ll explain. Couples come to me and say, “Nobody told us it would be this hard.” You think there will be some growing pains, but you don’t expect how many little things you’ll have to adjust to or how different it feels to fit in with their family. You didn’t expect the first big argument to make you think about divorce.

  • Wow, I don’t know how this ended up in my recommended articles, but I am grateful, thank you Jesus. I am not yet married, but this weighs heavy on my mind. Women always say, “Be with a man who loves you, more than you love him”. But the Holy Spirit said to me, ” You must marry a man who loves me, more than you or himself”. If a man does not see himself as accountable to God for how he treats you, and conducts his household, and does not see you as precious as you are in the sight of God, he will do helter skelter all over you.

  • AT FIRST I MARRIED MYSELF I FOUND ME AND GOD SEND ME THE SECOND ME JUST SOMEONE WHO IS MY MIRROR WHEN I STAND INFRONT OF THE MIRROR I SEE HIM WHEN I LOOK INTO HIS EYES I SEE GOD HE IS JUST THE RIGHT PERSON WHO MATCHES MY PRAYERS AND ALL I CAN SAY IS THANK U LORD AND THE BEST THING IS THAT I AM KIND AND HE IS KINDER ❤❤🙏🔥🔥

  • My mom has been married for 70 years. She told me to pray ” ABBA Father; please bless with the man / woman that “YOU” have for me: and make that person that You will have me to be for that person, in the name of Jesus!!!! Meaning allow GOD to bless you with that relationship ( equally yoked in Him) be blessed.

  • I can relate to the story of God not saying anything after praying. The pastor at church had even told me “my daughter do not let that (his name) plant his bad seed in you.” I still went ahead with that person… Hmmmm…. The person now started showing me pepper. God saved me and set me free after fasting and praying. I am now where God had ordained me to be and I am much much happier and more productive. God sure always has better for us💃❤️🙏

  • “Marriage is the quality of the people in the marriage.” “You may be great but if the person you are joining with is bad, that marriage will not work.” “choose well” is the first secret to a great marriage. “If you marry wrong, na you go suffer.” Mrs Kingsley-Okonkwo making ALL levels of sense and speaking wisdom. She surely is made for us. We Learn with each day spent with her.

  • It’s how pastor k looks at his beautiful wife! Especially at the time of her testimony 💕💕💕 he is sooo proud and in love! May God bless me with a husband that looks at me the same way and treats me with so much love! Thank you so much pastor Mildred and pastor Kingsley!!! My soul has been fed!!! I am free

  • My opinion is the singles want to marry and the married single. I was engaged many times over, playing house. Now I conclude I’m good and need to get to know and appreciate myself. After accessing the past situations, I was codependent and afraid to be alone. However, I’m good, as a single independent, intelligent individual with Godly wisdom and purpose. And as a Christian, I’m not fornicating while single.

  • Sounds like true..but in reality some non believers make wonderful partners. Many are traumatized for life because they fell for so called believers /pastors..(pretenders). When they are in church they seem to be perfect couples..back in the house lamentations suffering despair and trauma.Bottom line whoever yu chose pray God to guide yu.Dont rely on yur choice just becos yu have been told to chose a beliver😄

  • As a married woman who did marry the man God sent don’t think because God sent the person it will be so smooth and without troubles at anytime your partner can change even diverting from God. At any time they can stop loving you and abandon you please don’t think because God is in it it will be without terrible things. Remember your partner has free will and God will not override their choices and free will he needs their participation. Don’t make your partner and idol or your marriage.

  • Ladies trust God in choosing a mate. I dated a man for over 5 years, got engaged and planned a wedding for October 2020, but because of the pandemic our wedding was postponed for June 2021. During the period of planning our wedding and not the marriage, we attended counseling that helped to uncover a lot of red flags that was swept under the rug. After feeling conflicted, stressed and confused, I decided not to move forward with the wedding. My sisters in Christ, trust the lord and ask the Holy Spirit for guidance. Believe what you see, don’t ignore your instincts and don’t make excuses for poor behavior. Marriage is not a race and I’m so grateful that I didn’t move forward into a commitment that I knew would cause me stress and unhappiness.

  • If you get married to the “right person” you can work through the marriage. No marriage is perfect. However, if you are married to a broken person/ abusive person you can try everything it will not work no matter what you do. If it is two whole people and God is truly in both of you there is much hope. CHOOSE WELL OO. I knew something was wrong with my ex husband the red flags were there and I ignored it. Alot of red flags. Mistake I have to live with, but a lesson I learned and now I can help other women know the signs and save a life.

  • Choose well. WHO IS SINGLE? bruhh listen to this minister. It will save you from many hurt and pain. Even if you think it will work out somehow. It may take years if at all. A hardened heart can be that way for a loooooooonng time, so it’s less difficult marrying someone who believes like you. 👍 flee from stubbornness, rebelliousness, lust, fornication! In Jesus mighty and precious name 🙏 ✨

  • Mummy PK you are just so awesome. Thank God for the grace over your life for some persons like me to receive divine insight . I thank God for you and I thank you so much for this message . Without you at my age I may have still miss it. I will not choose wrong. You are blessed Mummy. I love you with the love of God🤗🤗🤗

  • I Love to hear you preach my Sister, you preach with Knowledge and Wisdom, you express your points with so much Conviction, Truth, Reality and so Practical, all in accordance with the word of God. God will keep Blessing you with Great Wisdom and Knowledge to uphold your home and impact lives in Jesus Mighty Name, Amen

  • Am 36 and not yet married. God told me about my husband in 2017 and 2018. After praying for many years and waiting…I lost my patience and went with a Muslim man 😱😱😱. After 7 months and seeing why a believer cannot match with non believers….its very true cos av seen many things that are hurtful. Am now going back to God. Thank God I didn’t have children with him.

  • This was suggested by youtube to me today morning. Couldn’t have been the algorithm, because before that I was perusal countless of documentaries mainly about human (sex) trafficking problem in the world and why prostitution and massage parlors should be banned. Interesting suggestion, very heated speech, but a really good motivational article lecture nonetheless.

  • Your message struck a very deep chord within me this morning. I thought that even though I am yet hear God speak about the man currently in my life, I can still go ahead because he presents with some of the features God told me about. But listening to you now, I realize the importance of waiting till I hear God speak. I must to chop life too 😅 Thank you pastor Mildred for this one. God bless you. Happy 16th anniversary to you and pastor K.

  • When I felt I was needed to get married, I asked God to give me the right man and God did just that. My husband was not a strong believer but he was a Christian, he never used to go to church but he was a good man. Mhsrip. Six years later, I remarried a strong believer but 8 years later the marriage ended in tears, I went through hell in that marriage to the point of thinking God never existed. The man almost destroyed my life. I was in a mess. 😢

  • The question is “who is a believer”? The fact that a person goes to church does not mean they are believer. There are many deceivers everywhere including on churches. That’s the truths. We see couples who met in churches but their marriages fell apart, whereas those that met at night clubs etc their is waxing stronger. My point is you can met your partner anywhere. Just because a person is not a pretender does not mean you will be able identify a pretender. The important thing is to pray and listen to that voice that tell us to proceed or not to proceed. That’s God talking to you.

  • What makes marriage work is not faith ooo. It’s compatibility. Born again is not a factor when it comes to marriage. Christian marraiges are the ones suffering more because they think everything is about faith. Ask for wisdom and a partner that you’re compatible with. That’s enough. Marriage is a Godly institute that runs on a sociological concept. That’s why it’s different in various countries but the structure of the institute is the same. Faith is something that you share. Apart from faith, what else do you share ??? It’s not enough. Y’all pastors should preach reality and not theories.

  • Thank God I hear this, pls ma,I had a vision earlier last year,I woked up to say my morning prayers, immediately I heard God said to me that me n my spouse should stop praying d same prayer, before I could even ask y,a strong force pushed a very high shoe into my legs,n at DAT point,I was taller than my spouse
