When Your Boyfriend Talks About Marriage?

When a man talks about marriage, he may be warming up and trying the idea on for size. He may also look for your reaction, such as smiling or frowning. To determine if your boyfriend is moving toward marriage, there are six tell-tale signs.

1. Take a chance to start a conversation with your partner. Check if your partner is sick, busy, or exhausted.

2. Keep an open mind. Be flexible and willing to compromise. Be open to your partner’s thoughts and views.

3. Only see you. Your man will not have a wandering eye that will make you feel jealous or uncomfortable.

4. Want to live together. A serious relationship type of guy talks to you.

5. Don’t overreact. If your partner does not want to commit to you now, maybe in the future, but is not sure, but wants sex now and feels his chances are low.

When a man talks about marriage, babies, and the future, it may be getting himself ready. However, marriage as a topic still makes him uncomfortable.

If your partner has been talking about marriage and saying that he wants to marry you for about a year and a half now but hasn’t proposed, it’s a big red flag. If your partner has marriage on their mind, they will spend time planning your life together, including the home they hope to eventually share.

In conclusion, when a man talks about marriage, babies, and the future, it can indicate that he is serious about you and your relationship.

Why does my boyfriend talk about marriage?

Talking about marriage too soon often stems from unrealistic expectations about how quickly a relationship should progress. These expectations may be influenced by societal pressures, family values, personal insecurities, or hollywood-style notions of romance. Or, they may simply be a product of lack of life experience, especially for younger people or those entering into serious relationships for the first time. If this is the case, correct your partner gently without shaming them. It is crucial to establish open communication and discuss expectations in order to get both partners on the same page.

Whether its months or years of dating, finding “your person” is a remarkable occurrence. And for some, the joy of the relationship is only matched by the fear of losing it. That fear and anxiety can drive the desire to “finalize” the relationship through marriage, as if that will decrease the chances of it ending.

  • Reading through the comment section and I’m shocked. I don’t know if it’s because I’m in my mid 40s and things have changed so much since I got married in the 90s. My husband and I are incredibly happy together after all these years. I made 30% more than he did for the first half of our marriage. We put our marriage at the top of our priority list because it’s the foundation upon which we built our family. We have 3 beautiful children, the youngest will be 18 this year. All three kids earned full ride scholarships to college. We retired young. We created this amazing life together and we wouldn’t have it any other way! For those of you who don’t believe in marriage, don’t do it. For those who do believe in it, have hope. There are still wonderful people out there! 💕💐

  • MESSAGE TO ALL YOU WOMEN perusal THIS article AND LISTENING: She has spit out a child for this man at 29 years of age and now wonders why he won’t talk about marriage? Hell I can answer that and I’m not even a Marriage Counselor: she’s made it “easy” for him NOT to discuss marriage. He’s getting ALL the perks of marriage without ANY of the responsibilities, that’s why he won’t talk about it. Why should he? She’s made it comfortable for him not to.

  • I think Steve gave her pretty good advice but he is assuming that she is the woman of his dreams and not just a person that he is settling for. I think Steve fails to realize at times that a woman is only special to a man if she is what he really wants. I’m sure that she has probably come at dude the way that Steve is suggesting before but he probably didn’t pay it much attention and she still stayed. Who’s to say that someone else will marry her or even do as much as he is?

  • You know you need to dump your girlfriend when she starts to manipulate you into marriage. Listen ladies, if a man thinks you are the woman of his dreams, he will pop the question himself, you don’t even need to mention it. Steve is wrong or lying, men do not fear marriage, men fear marrying the WRONG woman.

  • What to do? Consider the fact you have a very rationally thinking guy, one that plans ahead in a fashion you can probably not comprehend. One that saves his assets for greater goals in life, and not to spend it on every small trinket that catches his eye. The fact that in most countries marriage is a one way, raw deal, that favours women. And is actually detrimental to men, is also a point why men go as far as avoid this conversation and the act of marriage as a whole.

  • As women, we need to know what we want, communicate it early on (don’t assume he wants the same things), not settle, and if the guy is not on the same page (even if the guy says he wants to get married someday, he may not want to marry you), move on and don’t waste time… I heard that a guy typically knows if he wants to marry a woman within a year. I think that is mainly true unless there is a long distance relationship. Even then, women should not waste more than two years if they want to be married and be in a committed long term relationship… People can do whatever they want to do of course, but to reduce disappointments direct communication is needed…

  • I’ve been married and women change after marriage. I’ve been married twice and it happened twice. Couples in love don’t need a piece of paper to solidify love for eachother. Marriage is not necessary for a lifetime of happiness together. With that said. If you’re a man who agrees with what I said you need to make it apparent to your woman early so she can make the decision for her self. I will never get married again. It’s not worth it

  • Crazy how so many women don’t know their worth. How are going to give a man a 9 year relationship, a whole child with his last name, & THEN complain that he doesn’t want to marry you?! The ball was in your court, girl. Don’t act like a gf if you’re not, don’t act like a wife if you’re not. You played yourself. Don’t waste another month in that mess.

  • Steve is right, it is her fault because she never set Any standards so he took advantage of a good thing. And he ran with it and he continues to run since he knows she has taken his mess for 9 years. I mean how long does it take for him to want to marry her. Not that long! She has taught him how to treat her because she has No standards and no requirements whatsoever. I say walk away and treat yourself better and Know you are worth more than what he is dishing out.

  • I agree with Steve on certain topics but overall he’s a beta male. He teaches women to make us men work hard for women but in reality we don’t want to marry them because there’s no benefit in us men marrying women nowadays. Marriage for women is equivalent to legal prostitution and he doesn’t want to marry her because he knows half or everything’s he owns will be gone. I don’t blame him for not wanting marriage, she just trying to get a hold on his assets 🤷🏾‍♂️

  • Every woman should take notes and listen to this advice. This is the best and fastest way to know if he is wasting your time and using you or not. This way you know when to leave and find love elsewhere with a quickness. You dont have time to waste and trust me he never loved you anyway if he has no desire to commit to you. That man is a user, that is using your body and wasting your time. Stop playing yourselves ladies and wake up. Determine this early on too

  • Lol… ladies always use your senses and know when to walk out of a relationship with your pride, so that no man wastes your time for nothing and blocking the chances of other good men to see you. You’ve got 2 choices: it’s either you walk out now or you get the man to define the relationship and do the legal thing that will keep you both forever !

  • At age 47, my husband died after 24 years. After his death, I was in a wonderful 4 year relationship with a man who was 12 years my junior. I was 52. He was 40. We were inseparable. He was divorced with no children. My children were grown. This man proposed with no ring within 6 months of meeting me. He did not want children. In the 4th year, he finally purchased a ring however he did not want to talk about wedding plans. I badgered him about finalizing a wedding date. During the 4 years, I was NEVER taken to any family function. I met his Mother one time by happenstance and NEVER met his brother. After 4 years, I ended the relationship and moved on. Your thoughts.

  • Me and my wife got married by court but she never talk or planned about a wedding…been married by court since 2004 and she doesn’t talk about it like how other women talk about theirs, addition to that my mother remarried in 2007 after being a widow from 1992.my wife had no problem having kids with me but never talked or planned a wedding…but she tells family and friends she loves me ..I don’t understand this kind of love…. It destroy me in many ways I can not explain in words.

  • Interesting. Reminder: That “woman” chose that “Man”. I guess the “woman (girl…not)” did not “utilize” the support systems from friends & family on “courting” advice. Conclusion: Courting is considered a great option. Self-preservation is essential time management tool for the liberated female not “hope or Maybe I can-absorb his wisdom for free-emotional-attachment-FWB-dating”. ~Bachelor I Stand…Majestic!

  • We women get clouded by that feelings of emotion but the truth is i made that mistake long ago and when i realize it obviously two things were bound to happen; either he walks away or do the right thing. Ladies myadvice for you is don’t take what you don’t want for too long voice out please. #hearttohearttv

  • Did you really answer the question ? She was asking for your help and I don’t think that was the best answer you could give? ” If you want this then this needs to happen” And then he walk of of her life ? I think that it is important to know why she is, where she is coming from and where she is to know where she is going. Steve she ask for help do you think you really help her ? I am just asking. I think you should just turn your show into a a comedy show like Jerry Springer. DR G SHOW.

  • Its a TV show, there is nothing to hope, there is nothing to wait. If people ask questions it is that they miss confidence in them and they hope answers from a man who succeeded. If they don’t understand than Steve succeeded his life not their life, they do not have reasons to be disappointed. I mean if they need more, they can’t find it at TV. The Jerry Springer show is it trash TV, it’s worse.

  • Especially being already 29 if you want to start your family and have kids then put your foot down. But don’t go rushing either for the wrong man (drugs, alcoholic, narcissist whatever, abuser) cause your innocent kids will suffer the sad consequences. Same fir men don’t marry the lunatics. Be safe check their family also!

  • Steve I like you and I want you to do well .. don’t think I am been negative. Just think that the world is perusal you and you can help the world it is up to you to know what you want the world to look at you. I try to tweet you but no reply . Anyway just to say this is not Kings of comedy it is peoples lives and they are looking to you for help. DR G SHOW … come over to my show some time and you will see what I do and my dream to have a show like yours one day. May be we should team up .

  • “Old” to you may be “mature” to another woman. Maybe a man in that age range is what she needs because most women, after they’ve been “shit on” by men in their age group, then want to “move up” like Weezy Jefferson to men who they think will have them after they’ve been abused by other men. WRONG! A mature man has already had his “scars” from relationships and will know how to treat a woman more often than not.

  • This is a reoccurring theme on this show. What is the definition of insanity? Doing the same thing and expecting a different result. Women we have got to do better. The Word of God instructs us to “FLEE FORNICATION”. Women don’t want to do that but they will spend years in relationships where they provide wife privileges without being a wife. God wants to keep you from falling into that trap.

  • Dr G…no disrespect to you sir but I do believe Steve answered the ques…frank honesty…if the man walk away then it’s a shame she’s wasted 9 years of her life on him and if she choose to stay it’s on her too…there are a lot of people sugar coating issues today and Steve bringing it hard straight and honest…with a lil humour…tryna plug your show at someone else’s expensive ain’t cool but we see your hustle

  • The guy didn’t want to get married cuz of divorce and we all know what happens to a man when we face divorce. Our financial gets divided, our kids gets taken away, we have to pay for child support and school fee while the ex wives lazily sits there do nothing while women drowns in their ex husbands cash.

  • This is the conversation every single time\r for older single Christian women looking for marriage.\r \r Older single woman: Dear pastor there are not enough Godly men in the church to marry for us older girls. There are 9 women for every 1 man. \r \r Pastor: You just have to trust God\r \r OSW: The math does not add up. How are we all supposed to get married\r \r Pastor: Maybe you need to be more submissive, allow the men to lead more, less bitter, skinnier, wear more make up, wear less make up, go to the right places to meet them etc\r \r OSW:Pastor the problem is the church is not producing ENOUGH Godly men because the church is focusing on youth and children instead of on reaching MEN.\r \r Pastor: the men have to come to church, we can’t force them\r \r OSW: Jesus taught on boats, on the seashore, on the street. He did not expect the men to come to church. he went to them and in 3 years he turned 12 men into apostles. How man men have you turned into apsotles in the past 3 years?\r \r Pastor: none because there are no men at church\r \r OSW: exactly\r \r Pastor: you are too bitter. you need to be more submissive. \r \r OSW: I’m out

  • The talk about marriage – it ain’t ever happening, we ain’t having kids, we ain’t living together, you are not changing my mind and you are gone in 90 days or less. The door is over there. Because men get screwed nearly 100% of the time in Divorce, community property, shared living and false accusations. Sod it off – go be Strong & Independent.

  • Marriage is a bad business deal. Why would a man want to get married when half his total net worth is on the line if the women decides that she doesn’t want to be with the man any more. Marriage has no risk to the woman she doesn’t lose anything if it doesn’t work out. I won’t get married unless she agrees it will be purely for show and she accepts and understands I will not pay any money for a marriage license and I will not sign any documents stating we are legally married and all forms will have us listed as dating if we live together and single if we don’t live together.

  • Ladies stop obsessing with just marriage if the person you are married is still unfaithful and a player. Marriage will do nothing to stop a player if they are unfaithful. You really want to get married to a cheater? Make sure to get to married to a good man not just any sucker man. A good man wouldn’t have waited 9 years and never even brought it up. Why you even want to marry that kind of person? You have to blackmail them to get your to marry you is the wrong move and is sad. Plus if the person is a no good for nothing loser you really want to marry that person? If they haven’t asked you to marry them by the 2 or 3 year mark it is almost guaranteed that person has one or more relationship you aren’t aware of almost for sure. Why would you want to get married to a two timing cheater? She can keep his no good for nothing cheating ass. Make sure they bring something to the table and don’t’ get deluded and blinded by your obsession of getting married to blind you. You want to get married to a chronically unemployed person? That person will be collected spousal support from your ass when you try to leave their ass after a divorce. Who you get married to is more important than just getting married. People just want to get married and they will settle for marrying anyone that will say yes.

  • Bs, if you force someone to marry you, you already showing the disrespect and red flag for them to walk away . Instead of waiting for him to do it why can’t you. Why is it only his responsibility to get you a ring? Also steve is wrong once again, a marriage is celebration between 2 people that love each other . It is not her day or his day. Get your facts right or stop giving out stupid suggestions 🤦‍♂️

  • bad advice but i dont blame steve. Steve is smart his not giving the right advice his giving what women want to hear because most of his audience are women. The truth is there is no adv for a men to get married these days; with a 50% divorce rate where he’ll lose everything its best to just stay single and date here and there.

  • i’m literally in the bridal party tomorrow for a wedding. And honestly, so far the couple hasn’t demonstrated anything to me that justifies the cost, the time, the effort, or the stress involved in one celebratory day. They’ve been together for a long time and literally nothing will change in their lives after the wedding. I will support and congratulate them in their dreams but there is yet to be a human being on earth that has ever explained to me that this isn’t anything more than tradition from an era that feminists denigrate as the era where men would beat and rape their own wives and women were treated as property. But we’re still doing it. And what’s worse, the women always wear white. Even if they’re pregnant, even if they’ve done porn, even if they were the town bicycle. Because it’s all about what she wants and nothing that he wants. As far as i’m concerned, there is nothing in it for men. it legally exposes men to losing everything they have. I’d rather lose a woman than lose everything else i’ve built for my life. screw that noise. Women nowaday sdon’t even bring anything to the table.

  • Really? Seriously? You wanted him to tell her how to manipulate the guy? Thats not very nice or loving. Not wife material at all. She wanted results and he told her and everyone how to get them. How old are you? What experience do you have? Did you really think you could comment on some one else’s show to tell them you know more than them? There was no advice regarding her situation in your comment or advice to Steve on this woman’s situation to agree or disagree with.
