Is Miles Teller a millennial?

In six years and 15 films, Teller has played many young characters well. Time moves differently for young actors than it does for actresses. Hollywood favors youth, giving awards and middle-age roles to young actresses before they disappear into obscurity. But for actors, it’s different. This year’s Oscars showed the difference. Brie Larson and Alicia Vikander won all the female acting awards, while Leonardo DiCaprio and Mark Rylance won all the male acting awards. Miles Teller, 29, knows the rules. “There’s a reason only one male actor has won best lead actor before the age of 30,” he said during lunch in Studio City this past September, referencing Adrien Brody’s 2003 win for The Pianist. He was careful as the conversation meandered into the minefield of gender differences in Hollywood. Teller, whose boyish face has served him well in the first chapter of his career, seems eager to advance to actor adulthood. He names actors who are a generation older than him. Michael Shannon, Michael Fassbender, Ben Mendelsohn, and Joel Edgerton. They’re all performers who have mostly played complex characters in Hollywood films. Teller was almost lost last summer with the disastrous Fantastic Four. An Esquire cover story spent nearly 2,000 words wondering if the young star was “a dick.”Teller has been in a few movies since then. A year later, Teller has a few roles that could help him become a movie star. This week, he plays Vinny Pazienza, a prizefighter who returns to the ring after a neck injury in Bleed for This. It’s his first full-blown transformation role. He needed an accent coach, trainer, nutritionist, and help from the mustache gods.

The ad shows him, Keleigh, and Bugsy dancing while on hold with customer service. She’s a house dog. He joked that Bugsy was “food-motivated,” adding, “By the end of it, she was like Marlon Brando, and I was Steven Spielberg.” “I could get her to do whatever I wanted.”

  • I would have said “Hell No” after his obnoxious proclamation that “This is the date I asked you to be my girlfriend, and today is the day that you’re no longer my girlfriend”…..YIPPY, You’re my Fiance’, aren’t you just so stoked right now Bro?! (You’re like the the luckiest girl on the whole planet, you know that, right??!) Jesus Christ, how obnoxious, you don’t fucking own her dude!

  • What I really love about Miles is not only is he easy on the eyes, but he’s absolutely hysterical. He did a dang good job of playing Rooster and I would love to see him win an award for that film. Been crush crazy for that handsome and talented stud since he was in Bleed For This. His smile is infectious, too. I also adore his soft spot for doggies. Can’t wait to see his career blossom.

  • Thank you Miles Teller for not falling into jokes like the one Jimmy Kimmel did about Dominican Republic and about saying really nice things about my country ❣️ Comparing the misfortunes that a country like Siria is living nowadays with those of our country is just wrong. Can’t imagine the pain that Siria is going through. That comment was disrespectful both for my country and theirs.

  • He looks great with his mustache and I just finished too old to die young and it’s phenomenal. It’s slow but I like slowburn movies/shows and I really liked the director especially drive. Miles teller is a great and wonderful actor and he’s such a talented guy. Can’t wait for him to be in the sequel to top gun.

  • The Dominican Republic is one of the most beautiful and safe places to to go on vacation despite the bad publicity created by the ignorant people that invet things like that just to give the people the things they want to listen. For your information All those supposed mysterious deaths have been resolved and explained.

  • Such an ignorant comment from Jimmy mentioning the Dominican Republic and Syria. Jimmy has such a big platform for communication and making such an uniformed comment truly saddens me. I can bet Jimmy has never even gone to the Dominican Republic. If you want to talk about another country in such a disrespectful way, at least get your information correct. Every year, more than 250 people die in New York, but you don’t hear that tourists stop going. Really disappointed in Jimmy.

  • This message might never be read by you, but i just couldn’t ignore the amount of ignorance portrait in this little part in the interview, that a lot of people maybe didn’t catch. But for me, as a Dominican viewer, that tiny part broke my heart in all the pieces possible and could potentially create sever damage to a my countries economy and image. For a lot of people that don’t know, the Dominican Republic is one of the top countries in terms of tourism in the Caribbean. In the last couple of years we have been growing, more and more people want to invest in our beautiful land, and unfortunately the constant competition, the jealousy, and other political and economical aspects have other countries wanting a piece of the pie. Don’t believe everything that you read online, the press is corrupted, putting out headline after headline to bring us down. Thousands of peoples jobs are in the hands of hotels and tourists. Jimmy, what was a joke to you can bring a great negative impact in the country. Millions of people watch your show, your should know better than that. Never compare ANY country to a war zone created by the capitalist ideals and heartless people that run the American government and administration. High disrespect for Syria and the Dominican Republic, read a little next time you are gonna say a joke.

  • Too old to die young is very original, interesting in many levels, and incredibly well shot TV show, (Darius Khondji cinematography is beyond excellent as well as Cliff Martinez music creating compelling atmospheres) however, it’s not for average tv consumers. It demands devotion and understanding of Nicolas Winding Refn rhythm, thematic, and style.

  • As a New Yorker, I have Dominican parents and DR is a beautiful country. Things happen in every country, no country is perfect, people need to be careful what we eat or drink. When I visit there I detox my body bc the foods prepared have different oils and seasonings. I am not a drinker but if you on medication you cannot drink and if you are staying in a hotel look for reviews. That is my advice other than that, people should not stop traveling to DR.

  • Was it really necessary to compare Dominican Republic🇩🇴 to SIRIA?! It notices that you have never been to DR because you’d fall in love with our country. Stop with the hate. Some cases (that happen everywhere) do not make us the least safe country. YOU live in the most dangerous country where people can’t even run in a marathon bc it could be their last, and millions of tourists still go to the US every year. You had a lot of dominican fans Jimmy, so disappointed in you.

  • I can’t believe they let this “joke” slide on this show. I can tell you’ve never been to the Dominican Republic when you compare it to the horrific state that Syria is currently in. This was disrespectful to both countries. Also, not a good look on you Jimmy (and your team) to delete literally THOUSANDS of comments on instagram from us Dominicans expressing our discontent with your distasteful “joke.”

  • It seems that there is not a citizen of the Dominican Republic that can take a joke about their country. Get over yourselves. It’s not disrespectful, it’s acknowledging the fact that 9 Americans have died in past few months inside the DR under odd circumstances. He wasn’t saying it plain-faced, he said it in the context of a joke.

  • That comment about DR and Syria is very out of place, you must feel ashamed to try to say that the Dominican situation is much worse than in Syria. We demand an apology for the lack of respect towards our nation and I hope that if in some day of your life you come to visit the island, they treat you so well that you do not want to leave here, like many foreigners who have done it.

  • Wow really?!! making jokes about the situation in Siria and collaborating with the media on boycotting a country with hard working people that lives from the tourism! LETS BE MORE EMPHATIC and stop to think the consequences of our words and not judge a country because isolated cases (all those people died from natural causes and overdoses)

  • the amount of ignorance in this article is outrageous, how can he disrespect Syria & the Dominican Republic just like that? What’s the need to create a false stigma of the “country’s safety” and make people think about the country like that. Get your facts straight, Dominican Republic is such a great country, look at the statistics of how many mass shootings are in other countries ( not going to mention any in specific but you get the idea of which country im talking about…)

  • How would you feel, if I say to someone that has just matriculate in a school in USA, in front of hundreds of thousands persons: – Hey, What happened? You want to play laser tag like they did in Columbine? Is that a joke? Will you laugh? All the schools in USA are dangerous and subject to be compared to a war zone? The Dominican Republic is soooo good in tourism, that has been consistently every year rising his number of visitors. And that is affecting some other regions. So, DR is right now the target of some campaign to make the place look bad and diverse the flow to other parts. Simply, there has to be a limit when you decide to joke around. Jimmy’s joke about DR is hurtful to the country and show a poor sense of true investigation. My respect to brother country Siria but the situation over there is hugely different. Show me one country where no visitor has die. By the way, I’ve follow Jimmy for years. He’s funny and intelligent, but this time his brain was resting.

  • I just recently went to the show a couple weeks ago and honestly I wasn’t impressed. In comparison with other late night shows yours lacks not only on the joke department but also on the audience interaction department, specially on how you fail to understand your audience and the things that make us tick. That being said, here’s your well deserved dislike.

  • I went to the Dominican Republic last year, and I have a very lovely experience,I definitely definitely didn’t eat at every place I didn’t Know except were I was staying, cause “sure the hotel” BS the hotel is not responsible if you decide to go,in the middle of the night to a bar to mix drugs with alcohol and get intoxicated,to died of an overdose Well,I guess I didn’t died cause I’m not From the U.S.A .

  • Im Dominican living in the Dominican. I Jimmy´s Show i think its funny. I didn´t get offended because i know how the comedy business is. But i think he just got influenced by the news. I don´t think DR is comparable with a country in war. That is not a fact. He just doesnt know whay he´s talking about. I think Chicago, NY, and Florida should be compared with Syria (not disrespect to Syrians).

  • It’s just incredible the childish attitude that you Kimmel have, I am amazed that you can’t see the responsibility that you carry when so many people follow you and listen to you and the amount of good that you could spread. I just saw a 7 year old child making a comment about Dominican Republic and it’s true that you can talk whatever you want in your show, but you should try to think at least a leattle bit when making a comments about a whole country.

  • I lost all my respect for this show and for Jimmy Kimmel. As a Dominican I am really disappointed, I USED to like your show until now. You offended both the DR and Syria, and I can’t believe your audience applauded that tasteless joke. The situation with those tourists DO NOT REFLECT the kindness and hard work of the Dominican people, nor the AMAZING experience that it’s to travel and vacation to DR. Our country isn’t perfect but the jokes and assumptions are truly getting out of hand all over social media, and now you’re contributing to that. We are the no.1 tourism destination in the Caribbean, AND WE’LL CONTINUE TO BE, but guess some people are mad about that.
