Chise also seems to return these romantic feelings, even going out of her way to wear a white dress and a veil and have rings made for them both. Though several opportunities have come to her to leave Elias like when Ariel and Mikhail Renfred tell her so, she ultimately refuses and says she does not care that he might be using her and enabling her. The fact that he was the first to take her in and care for her, unlike her family, is more than enough for her to stay with him. This reveals that she has a strong sense of loyalty to Elias, even after shes faced with what Renfred tells her about Elias, learns of his past from Lindel, or even sees his true form. She grows to be attached to Elias, feeling a sense of comfort and security. However, Chise and Elias are not always on the same page. There are several times that they would get into arguments, even to the point where it get physical. The most extreme example was when Elias attempted to use Stella, Chises recent best friend, as a sacrifice in hoping to remove Chises Dragon Curse, which disgusted her that she punched Elias and ran away. Although their relationship did get better during their time in the College. He even agrees with Chise that they need to stop the perpetrator from hurting any more students in the College, which surprised Chise as she thought that he would stop her for being too reckless.

Friends. Lindel. Lindel makes his first appearance to Chise, riding on a dragon and taking her away from Elias, more as a joke toward Elias and comments that “he hasnt changed.” Despite his roughness in bringing her to the land of dragons, Lindel treats Chise kindly and welcomes her to the Dragon Aerie. After hearing that Chise is struggling with her magic, he invites her to return to the aerie so that she may create her wand. He takes care of Chise during her visit, patting her head as a sign of affection, making her meals, and praising her work on her staff. While carving said staff, Lindel tells her a bedtime story about the magic after he learns from Chise that Elias hasnt educated her too much about it and Elias past, something that Elias chose not to speak about. After his story, Chise starts to open up to Lindel, telling him that she is okay with Elias not speaking too much about himself and that she doesnt feel its her right to press for information. In addition, she tells Lindel that despite his story, she is not afraid of him, and he suggests that she tell Elias that herself. One night, he brings her to a field where he sings a song in her honor. He even, mentally, has thought that he feels like he is raising Chise, as he is with Elias, although according to his Familiar, Selkie, he considers her like a granddaughter. He is also the one who does the finishing touches on her wand after she is finished carving it. When Chise is afflicted with the dragons curse, he speaks with Chise, offering his condolences and voicing his concern for her. Although, Chise does not blame Lindel and assures him that her choice had nothing to do with him.

Ruth. Ruth is Chises familiar, who considers her a sister. Chise looks like Ruths old master, Isabelle. They first met, with Ruth, originally called Ulysse, coming to Chises rescue from a monster, but not without being wounded. Chise remains with Ruth as he lies unconscious, and when he awakens, he is surprised to find her there. When Josephs Chimera impales Chise, Ulysse has several flashbacks of Isabelle and how he hoped and wished she would awaken, but she never did. Shedding tears, he begs for Chise to awaken. To his relief, she does, and she greets him with a soft, but sincere smile. As Joseph appears, Chise grows angry when he explains that he wants to make Ulysse a Chimera. She begins to tap into her magic, attacking Joseph. Knowing Isabelle is genuinely gone, Ulysse asks Chise to take him with her and to become familiar. The two form a magical bond, and Chise gives him his new name, Ruth. Now as Chises familiar, Ruth finds a newfound strength and can destroy the Isabelle-Chimera, after which he bids a solemn farewell to her. As familiar and master, they share the same lifespan. Ruth can experience the emotions, thoughts, and memories of Chisé and will often tell others what she thinks when she refuses to. He is fiercely protective of her and will do anything to defend and support her.

A sweet anime with nice art, good voice acting and an interesting premise. That being said I feel this show is a bit overrated. The story doesnt really go anywhere, the antagonist turns out to be somewhat boring, and the main character is going to die if she keeps using magic. Of course she keeps using magic and always gets gravely sick/injured but she always turns out ok so it doesnt matter and she keeps doing that in almost every episode. The emotions are somewhat shallow despite what some people have been saying. It almost feels like a childrens show at times. The character development is there but it was hard to get invested for me. I had a hard time keeping myself engaged with the show and had to take a break a couple times from the 24 episodes to watch more entertaining animes with better writting and deeper emotions. In the end i couldnt wait for the last episode to end so I use my time to watch something better. A fairly boring anime with a boring ending.

It might sound like i didnt like the show but it really wasnt all bad. i just wanted to tell you the cons that are not included in the other reviews. If you have time and youre looking for something new and different to watch this wouldnt be a bad choice but I wouldnt say this is one of the best animes like some people are saying.
