To all you people saying that Coraline should’ve been in this list. Coraline isn’t a Tim Burton film, it’s by Henry Selick. Tim didn’t direct or produce this film. In the trailer it’s shown as directed by the same director of A Nightmare Before Christmas, which was directed by Henry Selick but produced by Tim. That’s why you’re all confused. I think Tim did however help out a little with Coraline but it still doesn’t count as his film.

5:00 I was OBSESSED with that movie when I was 8 years old. I remember I first found out about it when my grade 3 class watched the movie Charlie & the chocolate factory. Because the trailer was on the DVD. & I really liked the movie Charlie & the chocolate factory so my dad went out & bought it for me on my 9th birthday. & everytime I watched that DVD I would always watch the trailer. & one day I told my mom “You have no idea how badly I want to see the movie Corpse Bride.” & she agreed to take me out to blockbuster(if you don’t know what Blockbuster is then your too young to be perusal this article.” & lucky me they had 1 DVD of it there. ONE!!!!!!!! I pretty much ran & grabbed it & shoved it into my moms hands. & I swear I watched that movie every single day until I was probably about 11 years old. But then a year later when I was 12 for some reason I thought my at the time 4 year old sister would be into the movie. & so I brought it with me to my dads house one time & she asked me to watch it with her. & you know at that point I hadn’t watched the movie in a long time & honestly kinda grew outta it. But I was like “Well okay I’ll watch it with her this one time.” So I watched it with her that night & I can’t believe I thought I actually grew out of it. Because the second it ended I actually wanted to watch it again. & I remember I did watch it a couple more times after that with & without my sister. But now again I haven’t watched the movie in probably at least 4 or 5 years.
Personally I liked the Big fish the most..lt’s a pure illustration of his own life and explanation of why he’s so into filming fantasy movies. I literally burst into tears at the end of the movie. Big fish is underrated as hell so those of you haven’t watched it yet you guys have to. This one doesn’t really have scary and cult characters(compared to the other), which is why Tim burton fans barely watch it, but in a way it’s the one only Tim Burton’s fan can ever understand
Burton is my all time favorite director and I more so agree with this list, maybe not the specific order of the top 10, but the movies that compile it. Ed Wood is my favorite of his films, but Scissorhands is probably his “best.” I would put Frankenweenie in my top 10 over Sweeney Todd only because I don’t care for musicals. The man has never made a bad film, even Apes is decent, and he’s never sold out trying for a best director/picture nomination. He could easily hire Tom Hanks, do a war movie, and go for the Oscar but he stays true to himself and the one of a kind style of movies that he likes to make. Cant wait for his next one, whatever it may be.
For those of you asking– Coraline is not on this list because it is NOT a Tim Burton film. He didn’t touch that movie a single bit. Most people assume he directed it because it was marketed as “from the director of the nightmare before Christmas” who is Henry Selick. Tim helped Henry on nightmare before Christmas but it wasn’t his film. And neither is Coraline.

Tim Burton has been, and always will be my favorite visual storyteller. His movies can not match anyone else’s, and are just splendid to behold. I first watched Edward Scissorhands three years ago, and I was completely transfixed by it. It’s a masterpiece in every possible way, and it made me fall in love with Burton’s creative imagination and style.
For me Sweeney Todd is absolutely number one! An atmospheric, dark, shocking, thrilling, but still funny and above all, unique musical masterpiece, with Johnny Depp in one of his best performances to date. For this one, he was nominated for an Oscar. But didn’t won. Still I don’t know why. This was a really remarkable performance!
i love tim burton. his best movies are definitly the ones that have johnny depp in them. i remember when i first watched sweeney todd in the theater i never even blinked. i love the songs in all of tim burton’s movies. my fav tim burton movies are the alice in wonderland series and the nightmare before christmas. but i always love perusal the burton movies that have johnny depp helena bonham carter and alan rickman in them. my fav actors
Sleepy Hollow was my favorite Burton movie. It is such an amazing, scary, and awesome movie that is simply a Halloween classic. Plus I just love the Headless Horseman in this movie and even have the Hessian’s real sword to prove it 😉 I mean a sword with a snake head, and the tattered costume with dragons and death OH MY!! xD

WTF happened to Sleepy Hollow? I thought it was one of the best movies Tim Burton ever directed. Maybe people thought it was too serious and depressing. I don’t know. I’m just guessing. Don’t get me wrong. I like his other like The Nightmare Before Christmas, Beetlejuice, and Big Fish. But I also like and think that Sleepy Hollow is one of his best films.
Sleepy Hollow is one of the best horror movies that is a must watch for Halloween and doesn’t feel like like a Tim Burton movie. I usually don’t like Tim Burton and avoided this movie for more than 15 years thinking it was like the others movies Tim Burton made. I am so glad that I was wrong and are surprised how dark, scary, erotic and violent the movie was. The special effects and cinematography is excellent. Highly recommend this movie.
Ed Wood should be up there with Nightmare Before Christmas. It was an amazing tribute that celebrated one of the worst but passionate directors ever. It didn’t mock him, it celebrated his wonderful weirdness. Ed Wood is an amazing Tribute to old hollywood horror and it really should be higher. It’s one of my top Tim Burton favourites. I get chills and tears perusal it. It’s just such a beautiful and funny film. I’m glad NBC is high though! … and I’m just gonna go on a bit of a fangirl here… even though Henry Selick directed it, it was as much Tim’s thing as Henry’s <3 It was his drawings, stories and ideas. NBC is possibly the best stop motion film out there, and in my opinion one of Tim's best films. Everything so wonderfully done, the camera work was amazing, the puppeteering still blows me away to this day and Jack is one of the most inspirational and sweetest characters Tim has ever come up with. It's one of my favourite films of all time and from start to finish, it's amazing. Jacks Lament always breaks my heart and I remember Chris Sarandon and Ken Page saying that was there favourite scenes because we can identify with Jack's emptiness and loneliness in our real every day lives. They also said that the sets and hill that curls out is very impressive. That was the scene they both said they think of when they think of the movie; which I do too. It was such a deep insight when first meeting the main character :'( Also I will say the ending is one of the most romantic ending ever put to screen.Jack and Sally just seem so shy and yet so yearning to get everything out in the open and they do it on the most beautiful part of the town. It's just.. perfection in a film. I also put my hands up and say, credit to the animators! The work they put into even getting one scene (e.g Jack putting his skeletal hand on the christmas tree door knob; which took weeks to do) and they were just as much as stars as the voice actors are. So it is a treasure in the Tim Burton World. It is for me anyway. I could say more, but I won't xD!!
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is one funny movie! Willy Wonka is my favorite character in the movie. He opened a chocolate store 20 years ago then he built a chocolate factory 15 years ago 50 times as high as any other the songs from the new movie are awesome. My favorite song is Wonka’s Welcome Song!
They forgot to add Charlie & the Chocolate Factory on this list (replace it with Peewee Herman’s Big Adventure). Anyways, I’ve loved all of Burton’s films, but the closest he’s ever gotten to disappointing me was Dark Shadows. Could’ve been a lot better if done in a more serious tone. (Don’t remember much about Planet or the Apes). Anyways, my top 5 Burton films are: 1. Edward Scissorhands 2. Charlie & the Chocolate Factory 3. Corpse Bride 4. Sweeney Todd 5. Can’t decide between Big Fish or Beetlejuice or Batman Returns (still the only good love action Batman movie I know). Also, Tim Burton had absolutely NOTHING to do with Coraline. And Alice in Wonderland, while not the best thing ever, is far from being anywhere near as bad as the morons who hate it are making it out to be. As much as I love the first Disney animated one Burton’s sequel actually had a plot, unlike the first one.

I know this is an old article, but I just watched it for the first time. What, no honorable mentions? Also ” hard to find anyone who liked (Mars Attacks) when it first came out”? Well, I did, so did my dad. We love all of Burton’s films. The only one I really don’t is, surprisingly, ‘Edwards Scissorhands’, mainly because of the ending, and because I associate with the main character. Still, excellent list 👍🙂
