In “I Was a Child Bride: The Untold Story,” Elizabeth Vargas investigates the issue of child marriage in America, focusing on the heart-wrenching stories of victims who escaped the most dire circumstances. The series, which premiered on A&E, features former ABC News and 20/20 anchor Elizabeth Vargas. The show explores the dangers of dating apps, child brides forced to marry as young as 11, and a new lead in the murder of JonBenét Ramsey. Vargas interviews Fraidy about forced and child marriage in the United States, while four American child marriage survivors share their heartbreaking stories.
The show also explores the lives of eight previously convicted child offenders sentenced to mandatory life terms, without parole, who are now seeking resentencing on the heels of a recent United States Supreme Court ruling. The former child bride, Hana Assafiri, was a child bride who fought her way free of her violent marriage and built a new life helping marginalized women find freedom and independence.
In addition to the series, A&E has launched a new documentary called “Kids Behind Bars: Life or Parole,” which tells the individual stories of eight previously convicted child offenders sentenced to mandatory life terms without parole. The show also highlights the ongoing struggle for child brides in America due to legal loopholes in most states.

📹 DANGEROUS Kids Reacting To Life Sentences…
The video “DANGEROUS Kids Reacting To Life Sentences…” captures the raw and emotional responses of children as they …
“Please don’t take my life from me…” While you’re pleading for your life to be preserved and asking to be able to roam free, you took someone else’s life from them. Killing someone’s child. Having zero remorse until you got caught. You don’t want your life taken, but you are fully willing to take someone else’s.
9 times out of 10, monsters are raised to be monsters by the emotional neglect their parents force them to endure, psychological abuse, and sometimes (not always) severe abuse. When you tell infants/toddlers/young children and teens “stop crying or I’m gonna really give you something to cry about” or when they start crying and you completely ignore them, or you act as if they’re invisible and never console them, or maybe instead you make them go to their room and don’t allow them to come out until they’re no longer crying…you are damaging that child’s emotional development and failing to activate their empathy centers so that they their brain can learn to feel empathy for others. If your child is f’ed up, go look long and hard in the mirror…and start asking yourself how you failed that child as a parent because less than 5% of the global population are BORN psychopaths and the vast majority of sociopaths are made.
“i did not kill anyone, it didn’t meant to happen” or “i didn’t mean to do this” are just hilarious answers these killers can give, i have to laugh everytime. These teens relly think only because they had a bad life and felt unfairly treated by life, it gives them the right to kill someone just for fun or because theyre angry. Imagine everyone who would be angry every now at then because of life circumstances or a bad day at work would be allowed to legally kill someone. So many people would be dead. But somehow, these people know it’s illegal to kill someone only because life is not fair to you. But imagine in all these years, these kids oobviously never got thought that it isn’t ok to kill someone for fun, a challenge or by accident, and then act surprised ike they did something wrong. Aren’t these kids wondering why their parents don’t kill each other even tho they hate each other? Or hate the kids and kill them to finally shut up? Even if you grow up in a town where neighbours are dangerous and kill other people, don’t they realize that these people go in prision too for their behaviour? Like holy shit, no matter where or how you grow up, these kids somehow never got teached that bad people doing bad things
None of these people freaked out because they already knew what the sentence was. Courtroom freak outs are most likely when the defendant did a lesser crime and the judge decided to make an example out of them. Or when the judge announces a long sentence but the defendant doesn’t give them time to get into things like credit for time served, concurrent vs consecutive, and parole eligibility. Lawyers are supposed to go over that but they don’t have to, and the judge might try to scare them so they understand they’re getting a break. My mom was a juvenile judge and she said she liked to make it sound like the kids were going away for life so they might remember how it felt if they were going to be released at 18. The way she talked to my brother and I sounded completely different; we knew right from wrong lmao.
The Uncle of Seandell Jackson is one amazing man! I really admire what he did. It wouldn’t be an easy thing to hand over a nephew to the police. He did an incredibly brave thing. Especially when he did end up being threatened. It was the right thing to do but that didn’t make it the easy thing to do. That’s when a person’s character is tested and their true integrity comes out. Kudos to you, Uncle! That man deserves recognition and respect.
I have news for Martice Fuller…we never stop crying for our deceased children. I am blessed that my son wasn’t murdered, but my tears still flow freely. I have said many times that I did not know our bodies could shed so many tears. I pray for all of these families. Their lives are forever altered.
At a certain age 12 and up This children are aware of crime consequences, Have no Pity for them. How does a child hits a baby pounding on a baby. How does A Child kills a teacher and dumps her body back of school. Gang members know exactly the consequences. Majority always want to claim mental illness. They know what attempted murder is.
I don’t understand why so many people are against the death penalty. A very long time ago I spent a year in jail and it was so boring I would rather have the death penalty than another year in jail. I guess that is why some ppl get into a gunfight with the cops if they know they are about to go. I know I don’t plan on going alive if I ever break the law again. I don’t plan on break the law and have not for the last 20 years
Its a shame the creator of this article uses Copy and Paste on every single cut when it starts to focus on a new murderer. This kind of topic deserves a MUCH HIGHER QUALITY of article creation and FOCUS ON FACTS. it doesnt really take away from the atrocities and MAJOR POINT of this article. But this topic deserves everyones VERY BEST to prevent, help understand, and knowledge of consequences of bad choices in life.
My wife’s best friend (and her husband) work in the courts, as a clerk and court officer. I don’t know how they get through their days listening to the garbage of society trying to defend their crimes. Rationally, I understand the lack of accountability….they’d do anything to stay out of prison. But when the killers are completely remorseless, and the families of the convicted lash out at the victims, I have no capacity to understand that. Thanks to all the court officers, clerks, and judges, who have to spend their days in these sewers.
In some cases, the parents should have also faced some form of punishment for the actions of their child. Their own children may be locked away….but their victims are gone forever. It looked like some of these kids thought, “I’m young, so the law won’t affect me.” Or they were never taught actions have consequences. Yeah, the parents are not always at fault, but they can’t be that clueless…. Like forced to take adult therapy and parenting classes….. Or pay for their victims’ families therapy or something.
I feel very sorry for Eric’s granddad, who seems to be Trinidadian. Eric was a caregiver for his grandparents, it appears, and they don’t have that support. My grandfather was a mentor to his grandchildren and I still miss him. A prison official for 40 years, grandfather once told me prison is for rehabilitation.
22:00 I think was the absolute worst. Mr Jackson gave some pure, demonic stares at the victims family. Then upon hearing his sentencing chose to fight with the Deputies. All of those actions combined should have gotten him the death penalty! Then to top it off, Jackson’s family wants to yell that they hate the family of the victim! Why, because your boy got caught?! I’m guessing they are the ones in which stereotypes are made from since they want to be the victim in every aspect of life instead of being like the uncle & standing up for what’s right! I definitely commend the uncle!
Every single one of them do not deserve a second chance to come out to the public. You never know if they will seek revenge on the victim’s family, the judge or anyone else in public. Not one should be let out in public. Even those working as prison guards, they are a danger to them. All are old enough and could have stopped their action but did not. The impact of their actions are irreversible and imagine if they moved near the victim’s family – heck for those who have family near the victim’s family I would not be able to live next to a murder’s family.
The voice over kept referring to shocking behavior in court, but in one case that consisted of standing quietly and in the other case proclaiming innocence. After priming us for “shocking behavior in court” concerning the girl who lured a friend into the woods and slit her throat, we learned that she pledged guilty to a lesser offense to avoid life imprisonment without possibility of parole. What is so shocking about any of these things?
Before he died, my daughter’s murderer (her boyfriend) posted a Facebook statement that whatever happened to him in the future, he would not go to jail. I found this out through a friend of my daughter’s. He had a family member serving time in jail. He lived a double life. She suffered domestic violence at his hands. She was going to, we believe, move on with her life without him as she had been accepted into the University of Washington. We believe he knew he was going to lose his “sugar mama”. He killed her, and three others, before the cops unloaded their weapons into him as he had been shot and was ready to shoot the cops. A friend started a petition to try and get the 8 cops fired. She claimed he had no guns (he had two guns and we found a samari sword on the dining room table when we were allowed to go into the apartment and collect her things). Only 14 people signed the petition. He knew he would either go to jail for life or suffer the death penalty, so he chose the coward’s way out.
For Konrad Shafer he stole his dads gun that he had got for self defense, 2 days later he used it to shot David Guerrero when he was waiting for the bus. Also yes he did go on a shooting streak just for fun. and they also went in to Eric Roopnarines house and used Victoria Rios to trick him in to thinking he was going to have s3x with her then David Damus shot him in the head then Shafer slit his throat. I’m going to guess that Juan Sebastian Muriel was involved in the shooting streak but I don’t know any specific info about him right now. All four suspects are charged with first-degree murder, home invasion and grand theft. So yah I don’t know if anyone cares but I the reason why I went digging was because I saw the picture of Victoria Rios somewhere before. I didn’t find where I saw it before but I’ll keep looking!
As someone who also has the last name Wright I am deeply disgusted and ashamed of Danta Wright and what he did. That address to the court was pathetic. He was practically BEGGING for the WORST possible outcome. Awwww you love your family do you? Then why did you take from another family that did nothing to you? And that ridiculous look at the end going “What? Why?” You know damn well why. The only thing you get from trying to take and kill is getting your ass behind bars or if you’re REALLY unlucky having your ass handed to you by fellow inmates.
What outrages me most is when family members of these criminals stand up there and say “he/she is not a bad person, not a monster” not because they believe that but because they know it reflects badly on them, that they raised such an awful human-being. Then when these criminals are sentenced to life, they have the audacity to act outraged that they are being punished too harshly. Upon hearing this, Their families will wail and moan in the courtroom as if the punishment was undeserved, with no thought to their behavior, OR to the fact that on the opposite side of the courtroom, the victims loved-ones have to see/listen to their ridiculous display of behavior!! Its disgusting and shameful!
I’m sure that uncle was NOT happy with how his sister raised her son, and yet his sister said of her son “he’s NOT a monster!” Even though her son was sneering at the victim’s family. That woman definitely FAILED to raise her son right, probably because she ALSO doesn’t care about other people, either. 😢
I can only try to make sense of these young people committing such life destroying crimes. Why are young black children in this position. There is something very cruel that has lead to this situation in America and has affected these precious young people and it breaks my heart time and time again. Every single time I want never to see it happen and its every day and I am reduced to sobbing for every single one of these poor misguided young people who are so ill equipped to comprehend and deal with the enormity of what they have done. It’s truly heartbreaking.
We need to get the work of Dr Daniel Amen in the prisons and I wish more people would take his work seriously and start funding more research for brain scans for mental illness. He has explained that out of hundreds of thousands of brain scans that he had observed, the worst had been those of the perpetrators of shootings. Trauma, brain damage from chemicals and heavy metals, and some genetic patterns all play a role in brain health and behavior. That means thoughts feelings and choices are often highly impacted by toxic thoughts, chemicals, and trauma. We need to look more at what is causing this in our environment and culture and notice the signs and get help for people struggling with mental health challenges. This sort of thing I believe is preventable.
the fact that all these creatures ( no, they’re not human ) had the audacity to say they’re ” sorry ” in this emotionless and mechanic manner, after having committed such crimes disgusts me. the dude who killed his great grandmother was what shocked me the most, honestly. they all deserve to stay in prison forever and never see the light of day again.
Im a medical provider with additional Psychology degrees… My family started rewatching the Walking Dead. The is an episode where young Karl is intrigued by a walker trapped in the mud, and as a way to flex his superiority and boyish intrigue he throws rocks at it. When he sees that the walker has no reaction he feels he will not have any reprocussions for hurting it. So he moves closer and closer, aiming a pistol, but the walker gets lose and knocks Karl over. Karl escapes and runs away. He returns to the farm house where the group is deciding the fate of a teen that came crossed their group but belonged to another group of violent people. Karl’s father, Rick, is pointing a gun at the blind folded teen as the group had decided to end his life versus risking him telling the others where they were. But he hesitated. Karl appears, again, intrigued, and yells “shoot him dad”, as if he will be rewarded or encouraged to belong. This is a great representation of how impressionable young minds are and how they look to others for what is right and socially acceptable. If their environment, their culture, their family (and friends) exhibit behaviors that are not visibly punished, the child does not understand the full extent of their actions. Nor do they learn right from wrong. Had the group praised Karl for saying “shoot him”, he may have a perception in his life that killing is right and/or fair. The entire episode was about distinguishing this specific reasoning. That taking the life of somebody should NEVER be an easy action.
I can’t stand hearing people acting crazy when their family member faces their consequences after they’ve taken someone’s life… at least you can still SEE your monster of a family member; the others have to visit a cemetery. Smh. Sometimes I wonder if life is less stressful going about with no concerns or regards for anyone else on the planet. 🤔
This is the price of using drugs kids. Turn away from your father’s nakedness. Don’t eat the wine from my wine press. Don’t going into my vineyard to take my grapes. Stop asking for it . I’m not going to muder my children to feed your addiction. Just stop. Like you told your father too. When you were cold did i not help you? Why did you pass by me and laugh at me when I was broken and alone? Did you not recognize me or were you glad i was your slave and that I was suffering?
10:28 “If you thought Bustamante’s crimes were reprehensible, brace yourself for her shocking conduct during the proceedings” Proceeds to just say what happened instead of playing the courtroom audio, plus she apologized and expressed remorse like one would expect in the most un-shocking way Why do these articles suck
I think kids should not be put in jail for life if we let child molestors and perverts on the streets again and tell a lie to the public that it’s ok that grown man or woman and children relationships is healthy we can give these kids some help while they young. The fact that we Adults are making these kids crazy by the lives we live and the choices we make. We feeding our kids to the devils that really sitting in them cages. They need help and it’s time to hold the adults accountable and stop making excuses for the Adults
I know this is total speculation, but as soon as that kid started talking about knowing that he hasn’t shown much emotion and that he himself doesn’t understand why that is, then seemingly breaking down after that just seems like he’s been dealing with either not having emotions or extremely diminished ones for a while now. I’m not a doctor, so I don’t know what that’s called, but it just seemed like the kid is aware that something is really wrong with himself.
The recent case where the son shot up a school and his parents were sent to prison as well. They bought him the gun even though they knew he had behavioural and antisocial problems. The school kept trying to get them to help him. Neither showed emotion or genuine remorse during their trial. They did nothing, so now both mom and dad sit in prison. Upon sentencing the mother only whined that she did nothing wrong blah blah blah, no accountability. I have long said that parents should be held accountable for their children’s criminal behaviour when it was a situation that would have been prevented with better parent intervention to get their kids help, or to raise them properly. Maybe if parents knew they would be held accountable, they might pay more attention to raising better humans.
The display of emotions by these kids has nothing to do with remorse. The statements of “apology” they read or have read for them were nothing more than a slap in the face of the victims’ families who had to sit through the empty words. None of them were sorry about anything except being caught and facing actual consequences for their actions. They were only thinking of themselves.
I’ve always found it astonishing to read and see.stories about young children and teens committing extremely violent crimes including torture and murder! Of course, it’s nothing new! There are disturbing cases of children committing violent murder dating back centuries. One example is Mary Bell. There’s also the old case of two kids around 9 or 10 who abducted, tortured and murdered a boy about 4 or 5.
its just sad that it takes something as horrific as this, before the justice system actually does what’s right and hands down a fitting sentence to these demonic individuals. but a woman who gets into a vehicle 3 times over the legal limit and kills 2 people with absolutely no remorse, only gets 10 years with the possibility of parol ?? like wtf thats two counts of first degree murder ? what about those families who never properly got justice? they will never see their loved ones again either. so sad
All those LY words the kid, Fuller, who shot his girlfriend and her mum, shows he knows what he did and had no remorse excepts for himself. He does not see himself as he is. Jennifer’s mum: Oh yeah? Who did you kill? Like she told her she is in a date or something. All of those little whack jobs should stay right where they are.
The system has failed many of these kids. Of course I am not making excuses for these kids behavior, however PEOPLE WOULD NOT BELIEVE how many parents have requested help. This population MUST HAVE INTENSE SPECIALIZED TREATMENT BY A SMALL SEKECT NUMBER IF THERAPISTS WHICH HAVE THE SKILLS TO FACILITATE. This treatment MUST TAKE PLACE IN A SPECIALIZED FACILITY not just a traditional PRTF!
Hey teens out there. Its not real love. Not the kind a life can be built on. If youre thinking somebody must die for your love than your not in love, your mentally unwell and anybody who really loves you wouodnt let you even make that kind of plan. They would want your family to like them. Oh and if they are willing to kill their own parents to satisfy their selfish desires, what do you think they could do to you while your sleeping once you no longer look so perfect to them? You really think you’ll never argue?! Uou’ll always agree 9n everything?! Plus, now if they “fall out of love” with you, (which happens to like 95% of highschool love affairs), you’ll just become a liability, a witness. How on earth can you build trust with someone like that?
Pretty much ALL the reactions are these young people facing actual consequences for the first time in their lives. Most seem like they’ve just never operated in reality and somehow managed to make it to their teens before doing something henius enough to get them put away. Sad and terrifying, but unfortunately I get the feeling becoming more and more common as the age of people raised 100% by no consequence social media is going to produce some of the most terrifying monsters society has ever witnesed. We’re just getting started.
