What order should I read the never after series?
Q: Do I have to read Hooked before the other Never After books? No. The Never After Series is a collection of complete stories and can be enjoyed in any order. They are all in different universes with new characters and stories.
A: They aren’t! Retellings are new versions of stories. They follow the same basic story arc as the original in a new setting. I acknowledge the original and draw inspiration from the scenes and characters (specifically the villains), but the story isn’t a retelling. They’re not really retellings. People would go in expecting a different story. The Never After Series books are inspired by different villains from fairy tales. Not retellings.

Who are the characters in mine till midnight?
Mine Till Midnight is the first book in Lisa Kleypas’s Hathaway series. This series is a spin-off of Kleypas’ Wallflowers series, which I loved. In this book, we meet the Hathaway family: Amelia, Winnifred, Poppy, Beatrix, Leo, and Merripen. After Leo gains a title that might be cursed, the Hathaways become rich, leaving Amelia with a lot to do. Amelia has to take care of the Hathaways by herself because her brother is drunk. To sober Leo up, Amelia moves the Hathaways to Ramsey House, a run-down estate in Hampshire that Leo inherited. Meanwhile, Cam Rohan, who we’ve seen in multiple Wallflower books, is tired of working at Jenners. He wants to be free like his people. He’s got good luck and has made a lot of money, even though he tried to lose it. When he meets Amelia at Jenners, there’s an attraction between them. Amelia thinks she’ll never see him again, but he’s a guest at the neighboring estate, Stony Cross. Fate keeps bringing them together, but they want different things. They still feel attracted to each other. I liked this book. Kleypas’ characters feel real. They feel real. She’s great at writing realistic dialogue. She also makes books fun and interesting with humor. I liked the Hathaways in this book. They’re unlucky, but they’re still close. I loved Amelia’s two younger sisters and how each Hathaway is different. Amelia is struggling. She’s had a lot to deal with, and her brother is grieving the death of his fiancée. She feels she has to take care of everyone to protect them. I like each family member and want to read their stories.

Where to start with Lisa Kleypas?
Read Secrets of a Summer Night if you want to start at the beginning of the series. This is the first in Kleypas’s popular Wallflowers series. The series follows four friends in Regency London. They’re all struggling in their own ways. The wallflowers agree to find husbands for each other. Annabelle is first. She’s confident and beautiful, but doesn’t have money. With her family in trouble financially, Annabelle’s only hope is to find a rich husband. She’s after one earl in particular. She has chemistry with Simon Hunt, a wealthy entrepreneur. But she’s too snobby to see he only wants her as a mistress. As fate and the other wallflowers keep them together, things change. Watch for the funny scenes, the witty banter, and the swoonworthy kisses. Get ready for the rest of this sweet series! If you like romance novels with animals and/or broody war heroes, try Love in the Afternoon. Love in the Afternoon is the fifth book in the Hathaways series about siblings from an eccentric English family. I like this one best (of the series and of all of Lisa Kleypas novels). Beatrix Hathaway is the youngest and most unusual. She’s a beautiful woman, but she loves the outdoors and animals more than balls or sewing. She’s given up on love. But then Captain Christopher Phelan comes home from the war. He was engaged to her best friend, Pru, but Beatrix has been writing letters to him under Pru’s name throughout the war. He’s changed. He wants to find the woman he loves through her letters. This story is darker than some of Kleypass’s novels, but it handles Christophers trauma well. Beatrix’s animal friends make the story funnier. If you like heroines with specific interests and a desire to be independent, read Devil in Spring. Lisa Kleypas also writes about the Ravenels, another big family series. Pandora Ravenel doesn’t want to get married. She wasn’t going to start a new board game company. But after she’s accidentally compromised, she has two options: marriage or scandal. Gabriel, Lord St. Vincent, has avoided marriage. But he decides to marry her to keep her from scandal. She agrees, not knowing he plans to make their marriage more intimate. And they both become surprised by how much they love each other, especially when Pandora’s business rivals threaten them.

Kleypas hasn’t written since 2021, but she’s released new versions of her Wallflower books. What are Kleypas’ best books for fans? Why? Does her work still stand up? If you could recommend one of her books to a romance reader, which would it be? (My choice: the original version of It Happened One Autumn.) Is her work unique or similar to other books you’ve read?
