Is a marriage of convenience worth it?

A marriage of convenience is based on selfish motives, not on love. The partners only care about what they can get out of the marriage. They don’t share a common vision or purpose. They don’t have a real relationship. A marriage of convenience can have negative consequences that hurt the partners. A marriage of convenience can lead to legal or ethical problems, such as fraud, lying, or blackmail. A marriage of convenience can also make one partner feel bad.

It is used in literature to create conflict and drama. Marriage of convenience is used to explore themes like love, trust, loyalty, and sacrifice. How do couples who married for practical reasons fall in love? How do they deal with the problems in their marriage? How do they balance their wants and needs? Or to show what happened in the past. How does a marriage of convenience affect the characters in a certain time period or culture? How does it relate to marriage norms in that society? How does it affect the story’s politics and economy? Or to show how different types of marriages or relationships are. Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice features a marriage of convenience. Charlotte Lucas and Mr. Collins get married. Charlotte marries Mr. Collins. Collins is secure and financially stable because she isn’t young or beautiful enough to attract a better match. Austen shows this marriage as a sensible choice, but also a sad one. Charlotte gives up her happiness and independence for a comfortable life, and she loses Elizabeth’s friendship and respect. In Gone with the Wind, Scarlett O’Hara marries for different reasons, like money, security, and revenge. She doesn’t love any of them, and only realizes her true feelings for Rhett when it’s too late. This is also a good portrayal of this plot. Cinematic literature shows how intense a theme is in our society. Many movies like The Proposal, Green Card, and The Wedding Banquet show this topic in different ways.

Is marriage of convenience an arranged marriage?

Arranged marriage: the couple is forced to marry but falls in love. This is more common in historical romances.

The Marriage of Convenience – an arranged marriage. The difference is that they both agree. The hero and heroine make a deal to get married for a set period of time or pretend to be married to achieve a goal, and then fall in love. I count both Fake Date and False Engagement in this category.

Runaway Bride/Groom: One person runs away from the wedding and is chased by the other, who eventually catches them. It’s interesting to see which tropes I use most often. I’ve used some more often than these, and we’ll get to them.

A marriage of convenience is a union based on other interests and motives, not love. Some people get married for immigration, social status, family pressure, political alliances, or social acceptance. It’s a big topic. It’s a subjective debate. It depends on the situation. It can be a sensible choice or a way of dealing with unhappiness. A marriage of convenience is based on reality, not fantasy. The partners know what they want and what they can offer, and they agree on the terms of their relationship. They don’t have to worry about falling out of love or being disappointed. They can focus on themselves and respect each other’s space. A marriage of convenience can improve the quality of life for the partners. A marriage of convenience can be a practical response to modern challenges like globalization, migration, individualism, consumerism, or feminism. A marriage of convenience helps one partner adapt to a new culture. A marriage of convenience is based on selfish motives, not meaningful values. A marriage of convenience could only be criticized when there was another option. Before, a marriage of convenience was unnecessary. In modern times, the phrase has become about marrying for love or not. You probably know a marriage of convenience. Some are mildly depressed, which interests me. The partners don’t seem to have much in common, and they’ve probably thought about getting divorced, but decided to stay together for various reasons. The recession is why fewer people are getting divorced.

What is an example of marriage of convenience?

Some marriages are just to exploit loopholes in the law. A couple may marry to gain citizenship or the right to live in a country. Many countries around the world will grant these rights to anyone married to a resident citizen. In the US, this is called a green card marriage. In Australia, some people have married for the government’s Youth Allowance. On March 31, 2010, two students were married on the University of Adelaide lawn so that they could both receive full Youth Allowance. During the Vietnam War, some couples were married during their time of exposure to the military draft. The couple agreed to no contact and then got divorced. Advertisements were placed in student newspapers to this effect. Sham marriages often have legal consequences. For example, the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) can fine people up to $250,000 and send them to prison for up to five years. The term “contract marriage” is used by U.S. military personnel to describe marrying mainly for extra pay and housing benefits.

Homosexuality Another reason for these marriages is to hide one partner’s homosexuality. This can be dangerous or illegal in some places. A sham marriage is usually performed to keep the appearance of heterosexuality. Such marriages may have one heterosexual and one gay partner, or two gay partners. If a gay man marries a woman, the woman is sometimes called his beard. If a lesbian marries a man, the man is sometimes called her merkin.

Europe and America are like a married couple who can’t live together but can’t live apart. Their marriage might have been called a marriage of convenience. A marriage of convenience is one where partners are not compatible but stay together. It’s good that the Sino-Soviet couple doesn’t seem happy. When the West is challenged, domestic issues are less important. But it has also had to close ranks against a chronic threat from the West. The West is facing new challenges. As it tries to adjust, it may be thrown into confusion. Two recent stages in the marriage of Europe and America are familiar: Europe was rejected by America between the wars. After World War II, America tried to help Europe recover. But now another stage has been reached. Europe is less dependent on America now. It might even leave America. Will Europe become too independent? Will the new relationship lead to nuclear war? What will be the cost of independence? This is one of the big questions for both Europe and America. The United States must find a way to balance the disruptive and the cohesive as leader of the West. President Kennedy suggested a Declaration of Interdependence, like Eisenhower and Macmillan. On July 4, he said the United States would discuss forming a partnership with Europe to defend the free world and work with other countries on common concerns. He didn’t say that an inward-looking Europe might make things worse. But it might.

  • I really enjoyed this movie. I love how steady the story line was. No Abracadabra. People who inflict pain usually don’t even know how much hurt they cause, but the pain lives rent free in their victims. I love the fact that Jennifer was not a nag. She really embraced chastity at the time she needed to and she won over her husband by her character. I like that they weren’t intrusive in each others pain and had built the trust that enabled them to share. It ended well. Thank you Omoni😊

  • I just love the lady, she is so calm and very sweet above all very smart and appreciative. Other ladies would’ve not been so grateful and loyal but she was despite how cold her husband was to her. I shared a tear and this was also one of the movies I never fast-forward but watched it from the begging till the end. And the ending was perfect, thank you

  • What I really love about Mrs Omoni it’s her choice of actors. Talent speaks louder. As a movie producer your focus should be on actors who can deliver and not finest faces and popularity. Like I use to say I’m proud of her glad she is serving and sharing us good story with emotions, laughter, life lessons. Kudos mama

  • 2nd time seeing Chioma(playing lady of the night saga) with Deza. She has such a Super Fantastic personality love her. She delivered her Assignment like no other. Her wardrobe was on point, just a natural slayer. What can I say Deza outstanding as usual those suits entire outfit straight out of GQ magazine. Nuff Respect! Woman of God nailed it. 💯💯💯💯Boss of a movie it’s a Vibe! Needs a million view for this one. Have to come back and watch again.👍👍👍👍⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

  • Mum you see this ur spirituality I don’t believe it anymore 😂😂 Reminds me of my Mum, we call her Joseph the dreamer 😂 whenever she she wants us to do something that we don’t want too, next thing she will say, I dream 😂 Now she’s old and in her 80s, na our own turn the children, to use the we dream method on her now and it’s sweeting us 😂😂😂 God bless all our mothers🙌 their prayers held us going in life

  • Who was feeling the 🎺Jazz in the background. It was a whole mood. The ambiance was giving. It reminded me of a Spike Lee Joint (movie) that’s what he calls all his movies. It took me there for a minute. That’s what jazz and the right background music can do but in Marriage of Inconvenience it just elevated the intrigue and mystery for me and it made me think about the pouring rain & even thunder like something was about to happen. Deza and Chioma recently did a piece where she was an Escort but this one solidified how versatile they both are. Deza and Chioma nailed there roles being in this very distinct & out there Omoni Oboli space. Her films are unique, modern, sophisticated, and major motion picture quality. I love them, they get better & better, I now look forward to Fridays. Salute: Omoni, Deza, Chioma, Ms. Chinyere, Atewe, Writers, and crew…🌹

  • This movie deserves more views than it’s got. This movie is everything, and the actors… omg! Every single one of them brought their “A” game . Chioma Okafor, Deza the great una Deyact abeg you guys were so real. Typical me looking out for mistakes and unreal scenes in movies, couldn’t find any infact I believed completely and forgot it was a movie. Ah! Momma❤ @OmoniOboliTv you are too much collect your flower 🌺 again.👏🏾👏🏾💐💐💐💐

  • Omoni thank you also for bringing Atewe 💛 Raphael to our screens. Atewe has captured our ❤ one masterpiece at a time. Even in less than favorable situations i’m still glad he made an appearance bc this is what actors do. I must say though Deza and Chioma have some of the best chemistry and it’s always magical and special any time their onscreen together.

  • Watched this movie again last night. It just occurred to me that the story kind of linked lives together. The mother saw what she saw, but in the grand scheme of things, Jennifer needed healing and closure and somehow Gerald’s own problem brought that closure in the end.. Him dealing with his own demons taught both of them patience, patience with how they both lived together despite their differences. Gerald never disrespected her with her past and did let his cautious side kick in with trying to ensure she wasn’t still dragged to her past… My first time perusal it was just another movie, perusal it again felt like a big jigsaw puzzle their issues gradually painted a bigger picture of… @OmoniOboliTv. Something about this movie so far… I will definitely watch it again…

  • That scene Gerald was confessing to his mother how he met Jennifer and she said…. “ha ga mekwaya deliverance” (They must deliver her) got me rolling 🤣🤣🤣🤣. I enjoyed perusal! I must say it’s a sad story having to grapple with horrible life experience from the past that can leave someone forever traumatized and devastated until you find the strength to heal and get past it. Glad it ended in joy. Thank you auntie Omoni for this masterpiece and kudos to all the great actors who brought life to these characters in the movie. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻❤❤

  • This movie has a lot of stories about it. I don’t know why our people always want to Bury a rape case? They will always tell the victim” don’t tell anybody” but this is not fair! The scar will never go. The rich always wine even when they are wrong. This has to stop. And we beat ourselves up for somethings that is beyond our control. Its overall a good movie and alot of lessons learnt kudos to all the cast and crew

  • Thanks to the producer, casts and crew. Everyone understood the assignment. It’s important to test every spirit. Some people use spirituality and religion as a tool to manipulate others while some warnings shouldn’t be taken likely . Mama @Chinyere Wilfred, Sir Deza and Chioma played their roles effortlessly. Also, thank you for featuring Paschaline Alex. She’s an amazing Actress ❤

  • Omoni Oboli you have done it again. Very marvelled by your work and choice of actors. Going for actors who portray their characters/acts in the way we expect (almost perfection). Great storyline. Well done. Jide (Tony Mezie) I always enjoy/love seeing you in movies 😍 Your performance is always on point. Love it 🥰 Good to know we can enjoy movies that feature upcoming actors and also our beautiful Chinyere Wilfred. Well done 👏 😊

  • *Where are all the full credits for this film and other films on the website? You need to put this in full in movies going forward as this will show more professionalism. Some of us would like to know the actors, directors, venues etc.? Film credits serve the important purpose of acknowledging the hard work and skills of both on-screen and behind-the-scenes personnel and consists of many specialists who perform a wide range of tasks to create movies.

  • Hi from the lovely island of Barbados 🇧🇧 I love the movie and wish there was a second episode this is also the second time that I have seen deza the great and this young lady together and ending up getting married and they make a beautiful couple need to see more movies with them as a couple and marrying ❤♥❤

  • I was sceptical about this movie….ignored it for weeks after downloading. After seeing it, I remembered,” Omoni is never wrong”…like every single movie is a hit back to back and the fact that each story line is a separate entity, no repetition and how she knows the best actors suited for the roles…I’m just a happy fan😚

  • “This movie is so great! And I can’t help but express my gratitude to those who embrace situations that cannot be changed. It takes immense strength and courage to navigate through challenges without losing hope. To all the resilient souls out there, thank you for inspiring us with your unwavering spirit. 💪🙏 #Strength #Courage #Inspiration”

  • It’s the look on Dez when the mother is saying her prayers 😅😅😅😅😅😅😂😂😂😂😂. This drama is really good at least we couldn’t unveil all this and it left us wanting to watch more of this- whoever invented wigs should be applauded because these girls are rocking with these wigs 🥰🥰😍😍. Dez is one unique actor on how he unfolds his character in the dramas he plays. Those who don’t know learning to love someone, this is what it means and the special thing about this love is that it lasts longer and is strong. The way the mother is not sure the Spirit agreed with her liking the girl who is now her daughter in law 🤣🤣😅😅😅😅😅😅

  • Chioma Okafor is such a beautiful woman and wonderful actress.I love her with our Deza. They are a beautiful, emotionally warm, and sensual match. They played their parts very well.Well done director (except for the strange jump that skipped over their getting together to get married). That huge jump in plot could have been less choppy. The last scene was so romantic. I think most of us were swooning…

  • This movie is everything. The storyline, acting, article quality, editing, the sound. The background sound in the scene where Jennifer and Gerald were talking about he being gay was so soothing. The conversation, the sound, the acting. This movie is beautiful. No unnecessary sound to overshadow conservations. And the grativation part got me laughing. Third time perusal this movie.
