  • As a Korean, I feel touched and happy that this masterpiece song was among the songs for 1988 Seoul Olympics. The lyrics and sounds really represent the minds and feelings of the athletes well. Also, this song is not only for the athletes, but for all the people who live their every day lives. And, I miss you Whitney Houston, the great musician. Rest in peace.

  • This song is for all the underdogs of this world. It tells you that even though you feel down and hopeless your moment is coming and encourages you to keep striving. That one moment to shine awaits if you have the courage to go for it. Thanks to the writer and the great voice of Whitney to drive the meaning home.❤❤❤❤❤

  • I will dedicate this song to my son, who struggled with weight and self confidence throughout the years regardless of how much advice and suggestions myself and loved ones gave him. Fortunately, all the advice worked out since he went from 220 lbs to 145 lbs to join the military. Made it through basic and advanced training and became a US Airborne soldier. Good job son! The sky is the limit!

  • The most intense song ever! Whitney sings like a divine entity with the power of a thousand angels! Only Freddie Mercury could’ve reached this level of epicness. Freddie and Whitney forever in time. No one else can challenge them ever. This should be the olympic anthem forever. So powerful and emotional. I would’ve loved to hear them two together. That would’ve been the best song ever!

  • I can’t think of any other song that encapsulates the spirit of the Olympics, or what it means to be an Olympian whose entire life has been one huge sacrifice and an unwavering commitment and dedication to to competing, on the obscure chance that they just might be awarded an Olympic medal years after commencing training in their chosen sport. Gloria Estefan’s “Higher” is the only other song that I think comes even remotely close to this song but, while it’s good in its own right, it could easily be about some other scenario other than the Olymics and somehow doesn’t quite capture the zeitgeist of all things Olympics, or the nostalgia and tradition of such. I’m not even sure this song was even written specifically for the Olympics….but if it wasn’t Id be amazed, as it certainly hits the spot.

  • This song/video makes me tear up like a ninny. Whitney really deserved to be called “The Voice”, as I can’t imagine anyone in popular music coming close to her virtuosity in the near future. Her contemporaries didn’t measure up. Even Mariah Carey, who has a lovely voice (when it’s working), never matched Whitney’s sheer power and passion. At her best, Whitney’s performances were operatic– she delivered a wallop to the senses, physically and emotionally, as the best operas do.

  • This is an olympic song, but feels like it’s her song of her life. The lyrics describe her so much “rise and fall”… “When I’m more than I thought I could be When all of my dreams are a heartbeat away And the answers are all up to me Give me one moment in time” I love and i miss her so much. She and her music will never be forgotten.

  • Each day I live I want to be A day to give The best of me I’m only one But not alone My finest day Is yet unknown I broke my heart Fought every gain To taste the sweet I face the pain I rise and fall Yet through it all This much remains I want one moment in time When I’m more than I thought I could be When all of my dreams are a heartbeat away And the answers are all up to me Give me one moment in time When I’m racing with destiny Then in that one moment of time I will feel I will feel eternity I’ve lived to be The very best I want it all No time for less I’ve laid the plans Now lay the chance Here in my hands Give me one moment in time When I’m more than I thought I could be When all of my dreams are a heartbeat away And the answers are all up to me Give me one moment in time When I’m racing with destiny Then in that one moment of time I will feel I will feel eternity You’re a winner for a lifetime If you seize that one moment in time Make it shine Give me one moment in time When I’m more than I thought I could be When all of my dreams are a heartbeat away And the answers are all up to me Give me one moment in time When I’m racing with destiny Then in that one moment of time I will be I will be I will be free I will be I will be free

  • That’s the best studio vocal ever recorded. Just listen to those last two “frees.” They are staggering! That’s vocal power that is full, resonant and sustained. Something not lost on me is the fact that the finish she puts on this vocal is the kind of strong finish that every world class athlete trains for. Vocally, Whitney sprints through the tape, with more left, she doesn’t fall over the line. In her prime years from 85-94, she was a quadrillion miles ahead of all of the others that you care to name. There have been many great singers in the last half century. None could hold a candle to Whitney Houston.

  • I haven’t listened to this song in a while. It just popped into my head, and I decided to look it up. Throughout the song, the lyrics and performance were so moving, and I started to tear up. In the end, I was in tears. Such a moving and powerful performance. Whitney was a legend. May she continue to RIP.

  • At 43 years old, I realize how powerful her songs are. Never listened to her growing up, never wanted to. But now, I can’t get enough. It’s funny how when you get older you actually stop and listen to songs and the words. Elvis, Whitney, Meatloaf, and Bowie are just a few I have discovered in recent years.

  • At the tender age of 5 my dad passed. This song came out a year later and it resonated with me so profoundly. I rewound the tape and played this song over and over!!! Now at age 40, it still has the same effect!!! Powerful words song by the greatest singer!!! I love u Whitney!!! I’m grateful to have been brought up in this moment in time!!! 💕💎

  • Something about the 80s that birthed the greatest of all times in this era, Whitney, Michael, Madonna, Prince Im an 80s baby. When i grew up we were taught to strive for excellence to be the best like Whitney said in this song ‘no time for less’ but nowadays rappers are twerking and fans call it iconic 🤣🤣🤣 thank GOD i lived and grew during a time when real actual talent was the standard

  • Great song and great article! I loved Whitney Houston. I saw her in concert in the 80’s in California and she was so great. She was so beautiful and had a very beautiful voice. Her voice was like no other and no one can top her. She was the best and her music and voice will live on forever. R.I.P. Whitney

  • I remember a scene of a marathon runner with this song in background. The runner was vomiting because of exhaustion but still continued running. He made the last place but! They played this song while this guy was still running and vomiting, and the crowd was cheering like hell when this guy made it to the goal like he was a hero or something! He never gave up!! This is the olympic spirit in its purity!! That’s why this song is THE OLYMPIC SONG for me!!

  • Rivers of tears!.. Such an emotional stirring song & an epic powerhouse performance by Whitney… Absolutely epic!… I remember these Olympic Games with great nostalgia and joy… I was 14 at the time… The Sun always shone then & anything seemed possible. Flo Jo stole the show that year… She was phenomenal… inspirational… also recall seeing Ben Johnson’s record run, it was amazing to witness it.. Damn shame about the controversy that surrounded it days later… but rules are rules… to all the athletes & organisers involved in that games .. I thank you all. So many happy memories perusal it on television with my family, we were all looked on it that year for some reason.., This Song should’ve been the theme tune for all future games since. It’s damn perfect . Rest easy Whitney… your legacy lives on…

  • The greatness of the human being who, in music and sports events, is united while leaders and organizations separate him. Why do soldiers in an army obey their superiors? Let them fight among themselves. Isn’t what happened during the Second World War and what is happening around the world enough? A big hug to all humans aware of their freedom, compassion and kindness.

  • As someone who had the honor the work with many of these talented US athletes in Seoul, this song is not only a beautiful tribute to the United States but the courage, strength, determination, and pride these athletes take to the track, the fields, the mats, the baseball diamonds, etc., when they go into the first rounds of competition for that medal for themselves and the United States. Whitney’s flame was extinguished much too soon, but through her incredible, breathtaking voice, she lives with all of us and into the next generations forever. She will never be forgotten. The Olympics. The National Anthem at the Super Bowl in Tampa. She left behind a musical legacy for us all to treasure, some of us blessed enough to see. Now she soars like she sang. An angel. Thank you, Whitney. ❤️💔🇺🇲🇺🇸

  • I found this song 10 years ago, in 2014, when I was searching for something that could raise my long-distance soulmate up after an accident when he had been on a voluntary trip. His right arm and left leg were broken when he dreamt to study arts to be an artist. He told me the doctor said it was only 5% of chance he could recover. He gave up. He had disconnected with others, including me, until I tried all the way to know what happened to him. I was so shocked and blamed God in tears that why He made a kind person like him be in that terrible difficulty. After that, I, and a friend of us, created a article with the lyrics of this song and our thoughts, and sent it to him. I told him in that short article that I believed miracles could happen as long as we don’t give up. He listened to me, and the miracle did happen. He recovered after few months and chased his dream abroad. To me, this song was a miracle that gave a big hand to save my soulmate’s life, and I would like to show my deep gratitude to the song composer and Whitney Houston. They were as great as miracles that happened.

  • This song is not just a song, i feel the message deep in my heart. i feel like i’ll always overcome any obstacle that will come on my way if i use the opportunity and chances that i’ll be having. it also teaches me to give people chances to explore their abilities and do what they believe that they can do. everybody is powerful and should be given a chance to showcase their abilities. i miss Whitney houston with all my heart. i will teach my children all her songs and they’ll preach the messages in Houston’s songs
