How do I thank a wedding coordinator?

Dear Rosie, Allie, and Barb, Thank you for helping us plan and coordinate our wedding. No matter what we asked you to do, you were always fun and easy to work with. Memorial Day in a beautiful place. Merry Christmas! Thanks! Thank you for helping us have the best wedding! You made everything seem easy! It was great working with such a professional and friendly team! Our friends and family said how great you are! Thank you for making our day wonderful. We can’t wait to come back! Mission Ranch was amazing for our May 2016 wedding. Rosie Balcar and Barbara Wigham were great at planning the event. They helped us with everything we asked for and were very helpful in planning the wedding. The dress rehearsal was well organized and went smoothly. My maid of honor worked with them the night before and morning of the ceremony to handle last-minute details. Our guests stayed at Mission Ranch and The Homestead. They liked their rooms and the customer service at the front desk. People remember the food! The food at the brunch buffet reception was great. We chose waffles, bacon, omelettes, and a salmon carving station. We also had a cappuccino cart. I’ve been telling anyone planning a wedding in Northern California about them. The experience was lovely.

What should a day of wedding coordinator wear to the wedding?

What a fun change for you! When I was planning my wedding, I helped some other brides at the same venue. After our weddings, one of these women started her own business and I helped her with many events. Since then, I’ve been to several weddings as my photographer husband’s assistant. I do the day-of coordinator role, like steaming trains, collecting family for cake cutting, and fixing hair. Sometimes we sell me as a separate day-of coordinator for his weddings. I’ve learned how to dress professionally but comfortably. I like wearing pantsuits when I do day-of coordination. I can take off the jacket and scramble around in the pants and shell, then put on the jacket and look pulled together. Pockets are useful. Black hides stains and always looks professional. When I’m coordinating weddings, I get dirty. I crawl under tables to plug in lights, pull chairs out of dirty sheds, and climb roofs to secure decorations. Black hides sweat, which I sweat a lot when coordinating. To make a suit more festive, I choose a shell that is more interesting and colorful. The shell style can make the suit look casual or fancy. When I don’t wear suits, I like shirt dresses with fuller skirts. As a coordinator or photographer’s assistant, I can’t carry my bag everywhere. I usually put my emergency bag in a hidden corner, but pack my pockets with what I may need. A shirt dress is comfortable and stylish. In cotton, it’s perfect for the heat. In silk or a dressy fabric, it’s perfect for a formal event. Shirt dresses look cute with flat shoes. With dresses, you can be more creative with color, but don’t wear a bright color or print that draws attention. Choose a style that hits the middle of the knee or longer so you have coverage. I like wearing such a dress so much, I’ve thought about hiring a seamstress to recreate it in different fabrics and colors. Flat shoes are a must for such a profession, even if you don’t have bad feet. You’ll rarely sit, and you’ll walk on soft wet grass, cobblestone, gravel driveways, and slick dance floors. I have a few pairs of shoes just for weddings. One is a low, thick heel T-strap with a retro vibe. It looks great with shirtdresses and I can wear it for 12 hours without pain. Another is a leather sandal with thick soft straps that don’t dig and a very low wedge with a grippy rubber bottom. For pantsuits, I have black flats with arch support and black ankle boots with a wedge and grippy sole. The only non-black shoes are my T-straps, which are easy to clean. Black shoes disappear with the outfit, don’t show when splashed with mud, and can be cleaned at home. Wear shoes you’re comfortable in before an event. Your feet will swell, so choose shoes that can handle that. While any color can do, it’s important to look professional and successful. For me, that means well-cared for shoes over trendy shoes. If you wear open-toed shoes, you need to have a pedicure.
