Is a psychologist above a psychiatrist?
Psychiatrists and psychologists are different. Psychiatrists are doctors, psychologists are not. Psychiatrists prescribe drugs, psychologists don’t. Psychiatrists diagnose, treat, and provide therapy for complex mental illnesses. Many people confuse psychiatrists and psychologists. Both psychiatrists and psychologists understand the brain, emotions, feelings, and thoughts. Both can treat mental illness with talking therapies. However, psychiatrists attend medical school and become doctors before doing mental health training. Because they are doctors, psychiatrists understand the links between mental and physical problems. They can also prescribe drugs.
What is the difference between a psychiatrist and a psychologist?
Psychiatrists and psychologists are different. Psychiatrists are trained in both medicine and mental health, while psychologists focus solely on mental health. Psychologists and psychiatrists can work in many places, including private practices, mental health clinics, treatment facilities, hospitals, and academic centers.
Learn more about the difference between psychiatrists and psychologists from Dr. Margaret Stuber.
“I want to make psychology and therapy more accessible, especially to communities where mental health treatment is seen as taboo. It’s about managing life better. Then they ask, “Why aren’t more people in therapy?” “And that’s it!”
Should I see a psychologist or psychotherapist?
Clinical and counseling psychologists must get a Ph.D., while psychotherapists only need a master’s. Psychologists can do research and work in labs, while psychotherapists mainly provide talk therapy. A psychotherapist is more likely than a clinical psychologist to provide talk therapy. Clinical psychologists can do assessments and make complex diagnoses. Psychotherapists diagnose and treat more general mental health conditions. Clinical and counseling psychologists and psychotherapists use different approaches to mental health treatment. Most therapists practice psychotherapy and may be considered psychotherapists. A psychotherapist is just a general term for therapists. Neither is better than the other.
Psychotherapists help clients with their thoughts, feelings, and behavior. A psychotherapist’s clients may vary. Clinical psychologists treat complex mental health disorders, while marriage and family therapists help with simpler day-to-day struggles.

📹 NONIE & SHAMAINE BUENCAMINO, A PAINFUL LOVE STORY
Together to a to a marriage counseling na yyun ‘ ba yung retr hindi nag yung You have to go to Uh rehab or recovery ah which …
Respect to this couple. They’re both smart. How they carried the pain of losing a child is so admirable. They did not allow themselves to get lost in the darkness of such unbearable pain. Instead, they created something good to come out of it with their advocacy on mental health awareness. God bless you. Continue to be the light and inspiration to others.
This is Julius’ best and most consequential interview. And I’m glad that I watched it in its entirety. I was initially put off by the label “love story” not realizing that the “love story” encompassed the entire Buencamino family, and not just Nonie and Shamaine. Having been away from the 🇵🇭 for more than a decade, I had no idea that they went through so much heartbreak. And props to them for their advocacy. Bravo!
This vlog is an eye-opener for all of us with regards to handling depression ss a sickness.. Nonie & Sharmaine are not a perfect couple, just like everybody else, but they face their challenges with open minds.. Lesson learned here is to delve further into our child’s persona, always looking for signs of any unusual actions..
Great interview! I attempted to take my own life at 17 years old and my mother found me. I remember how much she screamed and begged me to stay with her hanggang maka rating kami sa ER. And she didnt sleep for awhile just to watch over me, and I told myself I will try harder and hold on much longer so that she doesnt have to go through that again. For my mom, I am holding on.
I had suicidal thoughts when I was 10, and attempted suicides when I was 18 and 21, self harmed by cutting myself and jumped from floors, seeing shadows in my room. I’ve no one to share what I went through coz I was abandoned by my parents. Only people in the church and my foster parent who’ve noticed my cuts and injured back & leg. Prayers does helped! Now, that I am a mother to 2 teenagers, I’ve been watchful and protective to them. I didn’t do what my parents have done. Sometimes depression creeps in but my natural ways to cure ’em are to run to God, reconnecting myself to nature, cutting the carbs in my foods to free myself from confusion, doing intermittent fasting to heal metabolic inflammation, and workout to calm myself. Self talk. Yes, self talk is just like I’m a mother to the little inner self of me that still needs affection and attention. Not just a survivor but I thrive.
There is so much to learn from your interviews, especially about Sharmaine and Nonies experience regarding their daughters suicide. I was and still am, suffering from depression. Somehow, I picked some pointers from your interview. I was never suicidal but sadness and loneliness come and go. I never see a psychiatrist, never took medication, but I survived. I’m now in my late 70’s, happy some days, sad the others. God is my guiding hand. He helped a lot. Thank you Julius for this interview with Nonie and Sharmaine. ♥️♥️♥️
Salamat po dito! Lost my daughter to suicide last april, kagaya po ng Anak mo poets din siya at mahilig magdrawing kaya akala nmin hilig lang talaga niya iyon. May lesson po akong natutunan sa interview na to.almost same po sila ng Anak ko kaso sobrang sakit po ung akin dahil sa last notes niya sinabi niyang narape siya.
The last and only time I’ve seen Shamaine on theatre was when I was in college, a play entitled the Lord of Jala-Jala with Pen Medina, and directed by Tony Mabesa. They were spectacular, and that was the beginning of my love for theatre. Had I not went abroad, I’d always watch her shows. Thank you for your talents Shamaine and Nonie.
Correct me if I’m wrong. Yung gestures nila while having the interview and the way they lean to each other say something about the psychology of human relationship. They share physical and emotional support and I think that’s the reason they were able to understand and accept what happened to their daughter, Nonie’s overcoming his drug dependence and saving their relationship. May they be an inspiration to other couples who are having challenges in their married life right now.
I was a talent in a TV commercial with Nonie & Sharmaine in the production maybe 25 yrs ago! It is rare that families are open to this kind of experience, most of the time they hide or deny the truth maybe because of the stigma. Making it their advocacy is a proactive way to help others to prevent suicide. I’m sure they are saving alot of lives! Kudos to Nonie & Sharmaine!
One of Philippine’s great actors. The pain of losing a loved one through suicide is unimaginable. Only those who went through the same thing can truly understand their grief. It is only by the grace of God that they are be able to press on amidst questions, doubts and sorrow. God understands. God loves you Buencamino family.❣ He will see you through.
Thank you Julius for interviewing them. Two of my children (19 & 16) suffered in depression. Hoping they are okay now after doing counseling. But still never know 🙁 . Will definitely be more observant and will do investigation as well. Thank you. May God bless you more and Nonie/Sharmaine and your/their families.
Thank you for sharing. I’ve been depressed for many years. Again thank you and more power❤
Pareho nila, 33 years na rin kami since 1990. Sobrang nakakabilib si Mrs. Buencamino.
Also yung mga diet pills can cause depression too. I stopped the diet pills totally and started to be normal again. So ingat sa mga diet pills na yan, it could be deadly. Lots of fruits and veggies and reduce carbs and sweets.
The Buencaminos are so strong to have survived their trails and have turned it into an inspiration. Ang galing2 po talaga mag interview ni Sir Julius, thank you for asking the right questions po. You bring out everyone you interview’ incredible stories. God Bless po!😊
thank you sir Julius for this beautiful interview.. I’ve learned a lot. I have 3 Kids.. 17, 15, and 9 and I am blessed to guide them always.. We have always a family meeting about what is happening in the world and in our environment so they know how to deal with it even when we are not around..♥ Thanks so much also Sir Nonie and Ms. Shamaine for opening up and sharing about what happened and about marriage and struggles. Cheers and prayers for your family.♥ Praying also for Julia’s soul. ❤🙏
It adds up sa psyche nila, kaya parents should be diligent nowadays. Blessing to Nonie & Shamaine and may the Lord keep providing you both strength and wisdom sa inyong advocacy.
The most heartfelt interview that I’ve watched. Somehow I can relate with the topics, having a husband who just got out from the rehabilitation for alcoholism and still doing the therapy, and myself having that suicidal thoughts for a while but we are working on it now. We’ve seen the problem before it gets worst and that’s the thing that the Buencaminos didn’t had with their daughter Julia. I watched her on Be Careful With My Heart with Jodi Sta Maria and you cannot tell that she was suffering depression. Depression is something nobody can see in appearance. I pray that everyone who is going through this illness will be enlightened and be cure.
Both simple to think na veteran at very good actors. They lived in Los Baños Laguna before. Miss Sharmaine attended one of the school events in Children’s house Montessori and I was there. She’s so simple, no make up. A beautiful lady. Cheers to Mr and Mrs Buencamino for their incoming 34 years of marriage ❤
I experienced the depression side of a daughter.we thought it’s her personality,, but was able to decipher its Depression. It was only when she consented to see a GP, get referred to a Psychiatrist referral.Blood tests done ..found to be low haemoglobin..was given iron tablets, zoloft was Rx by a Psychiatrist ..X 1 month. She outgrew depression …did not see for the 2nd time a Psychiatrist.she went for employment got.agency got employed ..Praying that all is OK..& enjoyed work now
Thanks for this interview po sir Julius. And thanks po sir Nonie and Ms Sharmaine for sharing your story. Its an eye opener for us parents to be more understanding and express more love to our.children and be mindful of them and pray more for them. Sending hugs to you po Buencamino family. Thanks for your advocacy. Praying for your family and all families po. God bless us all! ❤️❤️❤️
Thanks for this meaningful interview Mr Julius and salamat Mr and Mrs Buencamino for sharing delicate information about your precious daughter. Napakasakit po ng nangyari and there’s no getting over a death of a loved one let alone your own kid. Salamat sa pag share nyo ng experience nyo, it made parents like me to be more observant and understanding. May she rest in peace. God bless!
It happened to me. I lost my son. But God talked to me n explained what happened. True indeed, anybody can handle it, just kling to God n pray..I was able to handle it, to accept everything that happened because all my questions was answered by HIM. Would u believe 5 years b4 it happened, God talked to me n may pahiwatig na that it will happen… I just told Him, if that is ur will, never leave me, because dko po kakayanin. And true enough, when it happened, He never left me…. Until now the pain is still there, but acceptance is there. I never failed to pray for my son. And just the same of ur experiences, he told me many times that he is already happy. Very happy… And he even told me, that he is proud that I was his mother and so thankful about it.. Lastly, prayers are really very powerful… Have a strong Faith ❤
Just couldn’t breathe. Things just happened beyond your expectations and do something with whatever goes around, you just can’t handle it. Been through a lot.As a mother and a ‘lone protector’ of my son who suffered from being a drug dependent for over a decade years, discrimination was a habit these people would exercise. He was like tortured and was truly in pain, but, managed to ease as I kept on reminding him the odds of seeing life in its darkest form. That, beyond the meanest judgment, there’s hope of showing his strongest will to survive. The hardest I could imagine, but, I thank HIM with how HE lays HIS hands for my son’s healing.Grateful,we are, indeed.
Thanks so much for sharing your stories and advice for us parents. It’s really hard to become a parent most especially if you know in yourself that you are giving all the needs to your child. So much admiration to the Buencamino’s parents. I’ve saw them both when our Special Science Class section watched the Oedipus Rex play held in UPLB. They were gret actors! God bless to this show!
Nonie and Charmaine Buencamino. Tunay na mga PINOY ARTISTS. But their life together as couple is larger than a show with them in it playing their rolesNonie had passed through the darkest time of his life through substance-use. But as a mother, grandmother and great grandmother as I am, nararamdaman ko ang sakit na worse na napagdaanan ni Charmaine. Another interview of substance, 🎉 THANK YOU Julius❤
Grabe. Salute to these parents for being brave in telling their daughter’s story. Marami matutulungang parents ito! For those who continue to suffer in silence, please 🙏, I’ve gone through the same and still persists until now in my 30s, but I choose to always speak about it and seek help, if needed. Normal ito at hindi ka nag iisa
Very touching interview with such a beautiful couple inside and out! It made us parents open our souls to what our children are going through or may go through in this world ! Nonie and Shamaine are pillars of strength to many families who may be going through life’s challenges ! Many thanks for sharing your story Mr. & Mrs. Buencamino and to Mr. Julius who made this possible, our deepest appreciation ❤️💕🌹💐🍎🍇🍓🍋🥝🍒
Thank you for sharing your love story and the love story of your family. Lossing someone is a forever pain. But from that pain we can learn something, it sometimes can change our views in life, but we want of course a positive ones, like learning new hobbies, doing more things with our families and friends which strenthen our connection with them to understand them more and understand ourselves as well. To the wonderful couple, your advocacy in promoting Mental Health, and helping community in saving lives through your personal experience, it is a very generous, genuine and brave act. We know that lossing someone because of the illness he/she is going through is preventable. Let us beat the stigma and discrimination.
Akala ko kilig love story pero grabe ang deep ng conversation that I realized that everyone ay may pinagdadaanan, thinking about what I have been through and making sure all people around me ay nakakausap ko ang tingnan ko ang mga signs. Depression is a serious condition that requires attention due to the signs it presents. Additionally, drug addiction is treatable. Thank you for simplifying and sharing these complex topics through your storytelling.
Sana mas marami pang vlogger ang ganito ka positive ang mga contents, featuring the ups and downs, resilience and victories over adversaries in life. 👌🎈. Congratulation Julius. Problem is mas maraming Filipinos prefer to watch negativities and lambasting people. A Filipino culture of crab mentality, dragging people down just to feel better for themsleves. Use their talents to a good cause naman just like Julius Babao. 😅
Thank u for sharing your love story po. My husband struggled to into drugs and it was very traumatic and painful for me.Naghiwalay kami ng ilang taon pero nagkabalikan uli kami and naging ok na sya.We are planning to get marry sa church pero im not sure if gusto ko ituloy.nasira kase tiwala ko sa knya, pero ung love nandto parin, i want him in my life pero hindi ako sure.He tries a lot to change, he is a very different person now.Pero pakiramdam ko hindi pa enough.Thank u for sharing your life story, we are not alone.❤
Im suffering from anxiety and panic attack nagtataka ako bakit ako e npakasaya kong tao mababaw konting joke lng tatawa na lhat nmn ng problema ko nlalagpsan ko ng maayos..kya totoo ung sinabi ms. Shamaine walang pinipili ang mental illness .masasabi ko mahirap tlga sya may time tlga n isang araw hindi ko alam pano maging masaya minsan puro negative at takot medyo naging ok ako nung lumapit ako ky lord sya lng tga nka pag p ok skin. Pinag pe pray ko s knya n sana ako nlng mkranas non wag n sa family or friends ko kc mahirap tlaga.. kaya kayo kung may kakilala kayo ng sa suffer ng depression or anxiety intindihin nyo hindi madali mahirapntlga sya
My daughter, in grade 10, experienced this self-harm; her thighs are full of keloids because of her cuts. She’s the one who asked us to take her to the psychiatrist. Her school activities are too much for her. She was on antidepressants for two months.Nonie was right; the sleeping and eating habits changed. She is always in her room all day. I’m glad that we saved her from that situation. .We transferred her from another school, even though she’s already in grade 10. Less stressed school and caring teachers now.
JUlius I’ll answer your question.
Such a beautiful story of love, pain, adversity, and triumph. Sir Julius is one of the best media person we have. He is so humble . He handles his interviews with caution. He probes but putting to heart and mind that he needs to be sensitive Of the other person. I hope to see more of this kind of interviews. Thank you Julius!
Thank you for sharing your story, I can say this is one of the genuine interviews I’ve watched. Very spontaneous and humbling experience, its well timed for me❤🩹 facing challenges with my growing kids. Truly inspiring! Aside I’ve admire both of them as actors but their life story is very relevant as we continue our lives in the battle field. Kudos and more power!
I so admire you Shamaine for being the great mother that you are! Sad things do happen to good people, that’s the reality of life. Your Julia is shining with the sun now. Nonie, I commend you for being open about your struggles and triumphs! We learn from your weakness and strengths so we get a glimpse of how to handle our challenges as well. You’re a strong person because you didn’t give up. You continue to enjoy life with the rest of your family. May God bless you both as well as your children!🙏

Cheers to you both❣️Sobrang magagaling.
