Knights and Brides is a free fairytale browser game that allows players to choose their role and adventure. Players can build their kingdom, farm, explore, and joust with other players. To create a colony, players must inspect neighbors’ decorations, clean up at their knights camp, or remove lava stones from their brides estate. To complete achievements, players can play the Desire game in the van or carriage, make colonies, collect colony gifts, and buy energy on the Market for rubies.
For new players, the Infinity Trident allows them to go to the Lake of Sorrow, Mountain Valley, Battlefield, and Blackwood for materials. To build the Castle, players need access to Lake of Sorrow, Mountain Valley, Battlefield, Swampland, Lava Craters, Sunny Savannah, Architects Manor, and Abandoned Park. To get the train, players must complete the ‘Dwarven Express’ mission and click the train to Old Lighthouse.
To reach the Dreamy Meadow, players must go to Golden Sands, make Infrahoney Bulbs from 80 honey and 100 strawberries, and install the navigation aid. To create a colony, players must click the Colony button in the key building of the land.
The game is divided into various locations with various resources. Home locations have a spawning generator that randomly creates objects like weeds, grass, trees, bandits, and unwieldy stones. Locations may change appearance according to seasons. The Royal Couple needs players to explore a new land covered with fog, which is a permanent land. To build the Castle, players need access to Lake of Sorrow, Mountain Valley, Battlefield, and Blackwood for materials. Old Lighthouse serves as a tutorial for new players, and they can colonize locations by creating railway tracks in the Local Workshop. To create a colony, players must meet requirements in the main building or storage of the land. Colonies can be created in 10 lands: Old Lighthouse, Lake of Sorrow, and Blumburg. Colony rewards at Blumburg and Caviar can be obtained from the Ice Breaker. The Railway can be built in all colonies. Players can also build their own Architects Manor and set up their own colony.

MODLIST LINKED BELOW // In this video I go over the content added by the 4 medieval mods I use to set up the PERFECT …
The fortress town hall isn’t actually underground. You’re supposed to build the barracks in front of it an the barracks provides steps/grand-entrance for the town hall. And the holes at the bottom provide 1’st floor access to the connected buildings/inner-wall rail network. I also like how the level 1 fortress town hall, builders hut, and supply camp include signs with tips and suggestion on how to build out the style.
A very good article, thank you. I’ve been looking for a solid comparison between the styles for a while. Most are either a bit off topic, or stuck inside a playthrough, or way out of date compared to the mod. This is clean, concise, good audio, and even has bookmarks to help me find each style. A very well made article, thank you.
For Space Wars, it is very reminiscent of Star Wars, the University will remind you of the jedi council of Coruscant, the Enchanter is more reminiscent of the dark force and Darth Vader, the warehouse has the millenium falcon, the Town Hall actually represents Jabba the Hutt, that is why they are so different, but they do have a main theme.
I’ve had some proper fun with dark oak… the interconnected buildings with elevated paths function so interestingly… it’s pretty amazing!\r \r I’m trying to stretch my legs and try other build styles XD I’m kind of sad that cave style is gone from the more recent versions. Right now, I’m trying out lost city, and I’ve spawned a world that is nothing but badlands for it. That is making me get a little creative with some of my resource acquisition, but I’m up for the challenge! I will say that the space wars build style is abysmally optimized. The town hall is, essentially, supposed to be Jabba’s Palace from Star Wars, complete with a rancor pit. Heck, the supply camp is the Jawa sand crawler! But the horrible thing about it is that even the basic builder’s hut needs so much excavation, trying to look like it is from Tattoine. I tried building it once, and even when I was creatively supplying resources, the buildings just took a painful amount of time to finish!
Great article, I always want to see the final versions before I build mine, but I am often too lazy to build them all out in Creative because then moving them or changing something is a pain. I can see from the article that you ghost through the buildings so they are the “preview” version, but how can you do that with multiple buildings at the same time? That is to say: how did you manage to set up all the buildings without building them. This would definitively help me when I am trying new layouts. Thanks.
Are the cave style buildings still in the mod? I have not found them… also I have never seen Hive or Frontier. I’m playing Minecolonies for the first time myself now, in the Life in The Village modpack 1.7. I’m making a mix of medievalspruce and medievaloak, some caledonian, and a true dwarven restaurant 😀 Loved to see all the styles summarized in this article, thnx!
I absolutely love the Fortress Style, especially with how Modular it is, incidentally there are alternate variations of the University and Hospital that are much Larger While Fortress is awesome it has some flaws I couldn’t ignore as a huge fan of Medieval Castles, so one time I tried fixing the Builds to make the style look more functional by using the Custom Build Feature, no disrespect to the Original Builders of course, but I couldn’t exactly ignore these Flaws because it was obvious to me that the Fortress Style could look more like a Functional Late Medieval Castle (Why yes I am subscribed to Shadiversity, how could you tell?) One of the flaws I noticed was some of the Rooms on higher floors of the Town Hall had Stone Flooring without the Proper Structural Support to make it Physically possible, You could only get away with that if the Room below had a Sloped Ceiling and plenty of Support Pillars to hold the Floor up, so I simply replaced those Floors with Planks Never really got around to finishing the Custom Builds though, I think I got burned out, maybe one day Also this is just personal preference, but I tried to replace all the Dark Oak with Spruce and Oak, specifically Oak Logs
Jad thanks again for sharing such entertaining content. I the mods looks gorgeous and I cant wait to try them out. Also if I may, I really like your style, the other day I went and had a peek at your twitch website, frankly its awesome. You play many of my favorite games and I bet thanks to you I will discover some more. I will try and visit your futures stream
I’m about halfway through a playthrough thanks to perusal Jadz’s VOD’s (I highly recommend the cozy atmosphere). To those about to try the mods, I would strongly suggest that you begin with at least two crafters for your colony, because of the two-step process involved in dealing with every resource.
This is delightful. I’ve tried to do a faux medieval playthru using the Vanilla Expanded packs, plus Doors Extended which gives you castle gates, ED Embrasures, Vanilla Furniture Expanded -Security which gives you Ballista and Catapult. A few others of less import. But it’s all sort of haphazardly cobbled together. Yours is orders of magnitude better.
I love how everything is harder! Like you have to process cotton, you can’t immediately get steel, and so on! I really like production chains in RimWorld haha! I also liked the different amount of food you can use and what you could do with plants and animal fat. I feel like it would make things feel more realistic? It would be cool as well if there was an option to later move into the next “era” and research higher tech stuff, and as you do the raiders also move into this era and get guns and such.
I would also recommend Vanilla expanded Vikings, Medieval Medizine (or Aphotekari) and Medieval Prostethics. Also Vanilla expanded Security i think it is, that adds working Katapults. For more Fantasy, im currently playing with the 3 Race Mods from Lord of the Rims. There are Elves, Dwarfs and Hobbits. All come with their own Race Bonus and seperate Starting Szenario. Like Dwarfs are good Miner/Crafter and like to be underground, 3 Elve-, 3 Dwarf- and 1 Hobbit Faction, some are hostile so you can recruit them. A new Biom called Mallorn Forest with Mallorn Wood. TONS of Armor, Weapons and Furniture. You´ll also need Doors expanded because you get huge Castle Gates that just look incredible. New Plants and Food Recipes like Lambas Bread and Dwarfen Mead. All in all a huge Amount of Content in just 3 Mods, where you can roleplay on a Theme like the King under the Mountain. (Dragons Deszent 😉 Would highly recommend it.
I almost purchased another game that looked like rimworld (wich i loved) but decided to watch your article now and i saved me some money! Also, just a history/medical fact, those masks didnt actually lower the chances of getting infected with the plague since it was a zoonosis. Irrelevant, I know, just wanted to share and thank you for the mods <3
Great article on the Medieval RIM Mods. Very great breakdown and very informative. Can you also add these mods to your mod pack —Geological Locations Mod, duel wield, prepare carefully, body harvesting mods, and also stand alone medieval weapons & armor mods. Sorry for such a long list but there are a few mods that I love to use with every play through. So I was curious if you have happened to test other mods other than the ones listed. Thank you so much and Love the website.
Great picks I’ve played a couple of months ago. It was enjoyable but there are some improvements needs to be done, especially for MO (still a great mod). Steel is issue when you want to play with multiple mods, i.e. Dub’s Bad Hygiene. But just read the mod dev. apparently, he’s working on it. I played it with Combat Extended, just exclude vanilla vanilla factions, (every one of them) You’re good.
This article inspired me to do a medieval playthrough, but the various mods I wanted to combine did not play nicely together (MO, Apothecary, Vanilla Factions Expanded, Fishing,…). So I decided to create a patch mod and modlist, which has the name Perfect Medieval Playthrough. You can check it out for your next medieval playthrough if you want 😉
Good timing? I started a medieval run last month and went on the forums to try to find a generic, no magic, no buggy races, medieval modpack and couldn’t find one that had been used successfully by a streamer. I ended up with the same as yours but with a couple of inclusions: 1. Forgotten Realms: a good generic fantasy race mod that isn’t too OP. Allows you to choose which races are allowed. 2. Total Control: allows you to edit faction pawns to give each faction their own distinct apparel, race, etc. (you can sink a LOT of time into it, but thematically it’s awesome) 3. Faction Customizer: Allows you to edit other factions’ ideologies. Also good for giving everyone a similar hairstyle, color, etc. 4. VE Vikings: Just more medieval stuff The above four let me recreate typical fantasy world factions with orcs and kolbolds as savage tribes, dwarves and elves as civil kingdoms, etc. all with their own weapon, apparel, and caravan animal loadouts. Others: 1. VE Books, VE Books Expanded, and Hospitality: The theme is that we’re building the great library. 2. Medieval Prosthetics: This is a well-balanced mod. The best prosthetics (equivalent to archotech) are only 100% for limbs, and the eye, ear, etc. prosthetics just remove the disfigured tag -they have 0% efficiency. 3. Medieval Medicine: Seems pretty good and well-balanced, but pawns can’t be assigned to carry it. 4. Majestic Trees: For ambience and theme, this mod rocks. The forests are just gorgeous (like the dark forest for Medieval Overhaul, but better).
Great article, thank you, I’ve been wanting to do a run with this setting without guns. Quick question. Is the zombies you are using from zombieland or rimworld of magic? I have read in some logs with a mod (Immortals) that it has a possible conflict with “rim of magic” zombies, but I cannot find anything that mentions zombies in the RoM mod page. Plz and Ty!
Ice curving because in the cellar the cold air wold be separated from the hot air and used to make the ice, though i can’t accurately explain the process is really interesting and where use in the Middle East and some regions of Europe to preserve ice and in some cases frozen water to make it So its pretty accurate, and a really clever way to add “freezers”
I know those mods and generally medieval games go more for a “fantasy medieval” experience heavenly based on what people know from DnD and movies and all that and it looks great for that kind of content. But just for those who are interested: plague masks are not medieval, they are first mentioned in the 17th century. Medieval times end around 1500 (there are different dates in the range between 1450 and 1550 and you can make good arguments for most of them, but 1500 is often used as a compromise). Wall torches were not that common, especially not inside. People used candles made out of animal fat or (preferably) beewax, oil lamps which were really common in the Roman Empire due to easy cultivation of olive trees around the Mediterranean region, the use then declined during the medieval age and increased again with the emergence of new trade routes and – most important for peasants – rushlights and fatwood. And the hearth itself was also a light source, of course. The whole “dark forest” thing is also more fantasy. Basically every piece of forest in the medieval age was tamed and used for ressources. People also didn’t really cook in a big couldron, they usually had a small cauldron hanging down, but most of the cooking was done in ceramic pots placed next to the fire, sometimes even a second cauldron on a stand next to it as well. Well, actual professional kitchen chefs cooking for noblemen in castles in the late medieval would cook more with cauldrons. But they also had crazy stuff like automated rotisseries that were moved by the hot steam and a very smart system of wind wheels.
Consider uploading your (unedited) twitch VODs to this website for posterity. I’d love to watch your medieval playthroughs but they seem to have been purged by Bezos! 🙁 Personally I’ve been enjoying the same mod combination (+ a few more, like Medieval Prosthetics/Medicine/Drugs/Quest Rewards/Empire Overhaul — check them out!) but I have been bothered by there being too many new objects (furniture, apparel, weapons) to the point where it just feels redundant and gets in the way of the game play. Something feels off with the research progression too, e.g. Complex clothing/furniture doesn’t mix well with the new medieval techs. Since Ideology I’ve seen some unthematic ideoligions being generated for factions too, which is immersion breaking. Everything else is great, though, very impressive mod combo!
I started a colony with The lone Wolf beggning and i really need help, i dont know How to unlock The furniture research, its always saying that i need to do 50% of The research level First but i dont know How, i tried researching other things on medieval tab and i got like 2 but still no way to unlock It, please help?
I do know why and how, but they broke medieval overhaul so much… ancient threat running with plasteel gear (although they claimed they removed this material with mod) advanced components and components look like vannila electronic parts, NPC starting scenerio with cowboy hats, a lot of workbenches which are useless, best workbenches are locked behind Steel which supposed be hard to aquire… but there are a lot of Steel ruins on map, waiting to yield 100s of steel on deconstruction.
Hello Can you save your streams on YouTube? If it is possible that would be very cool. Also, streams can be placed in separate playlists so that they are not displayed on the article page. It’s just that for many it’s convenient to watch streams on YouTube with high-quality navigation by titles and seasons, as well as mods and so on.
The problem with Medieval Overhaul is that it’s very much still a beta mod. there are tons of compatibility issues, balancing problems, bugs, etc. Like for example most of the armor in Medieval Overhaul have the same OP stats. Or the fact it tries to do way too much (why is it trying to rework food when there are already whole mods like Vanilla Cooking Expanded, RimCruisine, and Vegetable Garden dedicated to that which are way better done? just creates more compatibility issues). Or if you visit the mod’s discussion pages it’s just pages upon pages of bug reports going unanswered.
I think these two main mods are horrible. With the cut up research trees (multiple) and some that you can’t research and it won’t tell you why, and several things still in the game that shouldn’t be it’s like they totally half a$$ed it. It would be nice if someone just finished one of these. Until then I won’t play them.
