Bernie Sanders, a Democrat senator, has been accused of honeymooning in the Soviet Union during the height of the Cold War. The popular Democrat senator did indeed travel to the Soviet Union soon after his wedding in 1988 as part of a government trip to establish a sister-city relationship between Burlington, Vermont, and the Russian city of Yaroslavl.
